When I feel forgotten and hopeless Lord let your water of life comfort me. Even though I fell on hard times these pass three years. I’m holding on and keeping faith even though it’s hard. Faith is our armor against the enemy. I keep faith even as I constantly struggle to provide for my children and I constantly struggle to buy groceries. My husband died years ago. At times I feel so alone especially as a single mom. Since suffering a heart attack two years ago and my on going battle with lupus I’m overwhelmed and discouraged. Both of my sons are autistic but because of you Lord they are thriving. I’m now homeschooling them so my hours to work are limited. I’m afraid Lord. Afraid of homelessness. Hi Caroline, Alistair uses many versions of the Bible in his personal devotions and sermon preparation. The translation he currently uses when reading from the pulpit is the ESV (English Standard Version) Bible. That is the one used in this video. I like Alistair Begg and there is so much to learn from that sermon. However when it is delivered against the backdrop of limited atonement much of the joy is removed from it. When Jesus speaks about the renewal of all things (Matthew 19), the recapitulation of the cosmos, surely he includes all those he created. Now that is Good News, believe the Gospel.

It appears that you are taking things out of context. Allistair in no way believes that "Christ died for the sins of the elect alone, and no atonement was provided for the reprobate". I've listened to Pastor Begg for years, and have never gotten a hint of limited atonement from his teachings.

There's a difference between extreme calvinists and solid believers like Alistair Begg. There are different degrees of calvinisits, how many points you believe, how many points have been invented to add to their theology to deal with the traps their previous points have created for them. It's evolving. Some extreme calvinists are not even regenerate. The extreme calvinists are ruining it for everybody. They'll lie to a committee to get the pastor job in a church, and later when the church is fond of them, they'll come out teaching what they really believe. They're called stealth calvnists. Example: John MacArthur is a stealth calvinist who didn't come out until years after taking the pastorate at his church. Thank God that Alistair Begg is not one of those. My take on it: I lean toward calvinism but I respect free will also, and I believe in unlimited atonement. About pre-election, I recognize that in eternity there is no time. It is like one big Now, forever. We here on earth are limited by linear time. We cannot access the past or future. That is no problem for God who has all time available to Him at once. He can see my free will choice and elect to support me before the dawn of creation on earth. He is unlimited. His atonement is unlimited. And as Sean MacDowell puts it, His election is downstream of our choice even though it seems to be before it in time. Our limited linear time, not His.

You are gravely mistaken. If that be the case, the thief on the cross did not go to paradise with Jesus bc he was not baptised. And why would Christ submit to torture & murder if sin could be washed with water baptism? These verses speak of being born of water (as in born into this world as a baby) and the spiritial birth we experience when we accept The Gospel of Christ. May we all be willing to change our beliefs when we read clear scripture that challenges our understanding. At the end of the day, it doesnt matter what you or I or a famous preacher believes, it only matters what God Almighty has decreed as Truth.

The thief was told what he was told by Christ before His resurrection and ascension to the Father. One in our current age cannot apply what the thief was told during his age. The thief on the cross was under the old covenant so water baptism wasn't part of the plan of salvation. Repentance followed by water baptism is for the renission of sins( Acts 2:38). Salvation isn't just about escaping hell and goung to heaven its about being born again. Just as physical birth is the end result of a process so is spiritual rebirth. Spiritual rebirth ,in order to be born of the Spirit, requires the cleansing of the temple of our body with the blood of Christ through water baptism. This is the antitype of the old covenants cleansing of the temple to prepare it for the Spirit of God to inhabit it. During water baptism the Holy Spirit circumcuses our conscience, removing the guilt from past sins, and restoring it to its original childlike innocence from the consequences from wilful sin, which is guilt. This is the " washing of regeneration" of Tirus 3:5. The word " regeneration" defined means to reyurn sinething to its original state. The original state of our conscience is that of a childs'. The word " recieve" in the new testaments original Greek means " to take hold of". This requires action on our part not to somehow earn the free gift of salvation but to recieve the free gift. After water baptism we must then " recieve" the Holy Spirit by fervent prayer. Once the Lord answers our prayer and fills us we must then surrender our tongue to the Spirit so that when we have recieved the Spirit He may scripturally confirm it. This is the only sign given in scripture that a believer has recieved the Holy Spirit when they recieved( Acts ch 2,10,and ch.19).

What is one to do when they have been a Christian under the Grace of Jesus' sacrifice for their redemption to God and YET, have NEVER experienced this radical transformation in their own lives that CANNOT be done by anything of their own, and yet is only given to them by God. How does one interpret God's rejection in this manner for I need this gift from God so desperately, and yet hearing this leaves me with such a sense of despair and sadness. I do not know what to do. For surely I have been praying for this very transformational experience from God for a long time and yet I am still left in this place of such emptiness.

Just the fact that you're asking is valuable And is a sign of the beginning. The Word of God is full of baby steps to walking, instructions and descriptions of early Christians in the New Testament, their acts, lives and gifts. God is not refusing, He may be waiting however until the time is right. Take those baby steps, follow instructions given to believers. Many of us have sought transformational power before starting to waddle as babies in even the basics, and that power could have corrupted us and even has done so to some. A Christian cardiologist said the new birth is kind of like a heart transplant, you don't run marathons the next day. You have to get fit for it gently day by day. Power comes as we can handle it or receive it. God knows when. My own journey was a long one.

I don't understand why we do not trust the scriptures. When Jesus says "water and spirit," he is not saying "spirit and spirit." There is no reason to equivocation here. Of one apostle's experience, we are told in Acts how it happened. That is the experience of the Apostle Paul. The experience of the others is also given to us but we cannot expect to have the same experience because theirs was after the cross but before His ascension to the Father. Why do so many preachers call people to say a prayer if being born again is by God alone? Watch Billy Graham, come on down pray this magical prayer and you will be saved. I am not trying to criticize but why is salvation and how to be save so confusing?? To be "born again " means to be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins. Acts 2:38 "Peter replied, repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The verses listed in the topic are a conversation between a jew and jesus. Where is this explained to a gentile? Why did jesus go on to call a gentile woman a dog? And why did he tell the 12 apostles to not go to gentiles?

Because the promises were to be fulfilled to the Jews from the Old Testament first as a fulfillment. God keeps His promises. Following that, the whole world was opened up to having the same offer explained to them, and the New Testament records many instances of it being explained to them also, and even Jesus proclaiming one of them (gentiles) to be the best examples of faith compared to all He had seen. God is no respecter of persons, He just keeps His first promises, first. About the gentile woman in the story of the dog, Jesus did not call her a "dog" so much as He used the illustration of a puppy in the family home, a sweet little puppy, which the same word can be translated legitimately, and a clearly imaged explanation that the children being fed first has benefits for the family puppy from what falls from the table, while not excluding the other meals the puppy may get by being fed directly later.

This is the Sacrament of Baptism. As you say born again is regenerated and sanctified, and unless we are regenerated and have our own righteousness we shall have no grace, our faith must be of good works. Our good works must be attributed to the Holy Spirit, BUT we must show evidence of good works to prove faith, our will must overcome temptation guided by the Holy Spirit.

Try "Begotten from above" (correct) when Jesus speaks... Nicodemus says "born again" because he doesn't understand Jesus Christ words. If you follow reason, it is the only way it makes sense. everyone seems to assume satan is going to be horrid. if i go to hell then GOD is "punishing me" for my sins, but why would satan want to punish me too? satan hates christians. if i'm being punished by satan, then satan is doing god's work - that makes zero sense. hell is more likely to be eternity having more fun than you ever could on earth, this is what god hates, heaven will just be eternal worship, satan is SAVING you from an eternity of boredom and slavery. i see no reason why hell wouldn't be a great place to be, no mind control, no ten commandments to follow, just eternal life that you can probably quit if you get bored with learning guitar from hendrix or trying to grasp relativity from einstein. why would hell be undesirable? why would satan want to torment me - he hates god and christians, not sinners.

This speaker seems to not understand the text. The new birth is accomplished by baptism into Christ and then one is added to his Church, the Kingdom of God. The spiritual Kingdom Jesus spoke of is entered into by obedience to the plan of salvation laid out in scripture. Why people go to such lengths to deny what the Bible teaches is beyond understanding. Don’t just take this guys word on such an important issue as salvation of your soul. Study they bible so you can know what Gods will is for mankind. Many today teach the doctrines of man and pass it off as coming from God. Read Matthew 15:9 and also Matthew 7:21. The standard is God’s word, nothing else. I want people to be born again. However, to teach things as just believing and praying for forgiveness in not how one is born again. Scripture does not agree with that view. The book of Acts gives 9 conversion examples and tells us about the establishment of the Church. I came from a baptist background and was amazed once I studied and found out what I believed was error.

The bread and wine don’t become literal flesh and blood. Just like Jesus’ body did not literally become stones. (John 2:19) Jesus can use metaphors and symbols. And frequently did. The water in baptism is a symbol of the grave (the old way of living is dead). The bread and wine are symbols of His body broken and blood poured out. Priests don’t have magic powers that turn bread into flesh. Go take communion out of your mouth and to a microscope if you don’t believe me. It’s still bread even after the priest blesses it.
