I'm glad I found your channel (actually you found mine, then I checked yours out).... Thank you for these great videos; you are a major help to this old dude who is learning how to work on these new high-tech outboards. For the past 35+ years I had diesels, and learned how to do ALL the work on them; even took diesel mechanic classes. With the help from your videos, I'll be able to do all the work on my Yamaha 300.... Great job!

Hi BAB, Thank you! You just recently sent me the link to this. I don't know how I missed it before. I'll now be able to check and change my plugs and thermostats myself... I still don't understand all the 'internal' engine zincs, where they are, and how to change them... On my past two diesel engines the pencil-zincs were on/in the heat exchangers; very easy to replace, and I did so twice a year... How often do you find bad zincs on the 300 Yamaha; how many average hours on the engine; 90 % of my boating is in brackish water, and I flush the engine for 20+ minutes every time I use it... I now have 990 hours, and I have not changed those 'internal' zincs...
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 4 жыл бұрын
There are a couple of internal anodes, but you shouldn't have to mess with those for awhile, and you have to remove a few different parts to get to them, like the thermostat housings and water jackets, etc. The anodes you should change, and at about 1,000 hours, you are probably due. Are the ones that are in between the spark plugs. They are on each head, they are really similar to the ones on the F250, kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqO4do1sd72rsMk

At 100 HR's it's just for inspection, you should be getting 300 HR's on the plugs, but a good visual lets you see how the engine is running :) I wonder what it was that made the porcelain blow out of the plug on your IO though, or they were just in there for a very long time lol

Really enjoying all of the content on your channel? Why do you grease the threads on the fuel/water separator bowls. Never seen that before or heard anyone recommend doing that and never had an issue getting them off. I use Parker/Racor filters, if that makes a difference. Thanks!
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! We do that mainly because it makes it easier to get the bowls off and it's usually us doing it :) You get a good amount of vacuum in the fuel system, so over time, they can get pretty difficult to take off. A little bit of grease makes that easier! Racors are extremely common, it's probably preference, if it makes the job just a little bit easier, I'm in! If you haven't had any trouble with yours, you don't necessarily need to change anything :) If it's not broke don't fix it kind of deal there lol

So in that triple configuration how is the rotation set up since two would have to have same rotation. Is the outside ones set same and middle one counter rotation?
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 5 жыл бұрын
Close, it's basically the same as with two. Port and starboard are still the same and the center is just another standard rotation. Some people like to swap the port and starboard and put the counter on the starboard side. But that's pretty rare and depends on how the boat performs. For quads it just adds another counter on the port side lol

@luderickwong

May i ask a out of focus question? When i have my boat licence long time ago, the lecturer mentioned that for a boat have twin engine, the best way os to run one clockwise while the other anti clockwise. Does that still apply to modern outboards? If that is the case, what is the direction of the middle outboard in a triple set up?
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 4 жыл бұрын
Yup! You've got a counter clockwise on the port side and a standard rotation on the starboard. On trips the center engine is another standard, on quads it goes counter counter standard standard. You could flip them as well. Common in fountain boats where they do standard standard counter:)

@BornAgainBoating

Yes, prefill the water separators, here's some more info on it: www.bornagainboating.com/pre-fill-fuel-filter-water-separator/ And yes, you can suck out the oil while in the water, just make sure and tilt the engines up first to get the oil out of the heads. When you suck the oil out, it usually leaves a little bit in the bottom of the pan. So just check the dip stick as you pour in the new oil to make sure you don't over fill it.

It's Johnson Evinrude Marine Triple Guard grease, I like the stuff in the tube because you can use it liberally :) Here's a link to it on Amazon: amzn.to/2Z1Ow1j

Hi, i have Done this service om my own f300, except for the all seals that a yamaha dealer helped med with( propshaft and Also new gear shaft seal and driveshaft seal). Now when the boat is in water, there is Some fuel leaking in the water. What do you think is the problem. If you have a email i can send you Some picture of it? I like your videos anyway:)

@@mickemike2148 Im talking about the water separator fuel filters. You can fill the filters with the primer bulb you just have to use your thumb over the outlet.
