Why These 8 Things WILL Stop Birds Attacking Your Drone!
When flying your DJI drone or any other brand drone, the last thing you want is attack from birds. Larger birds will knock your Mavic 3 right out of the sky. And smaller drones like DJI Mini 3 or DJI Mini 4 wont stand a chance. In this video I explain various flying techniques you can use to avoid these attacks and I also have some preventative measures you can take to stop birds attacking your drone for good.

there is a drone pilot who has a channel here in the USA that demonstrated the use of the reflective red tape where he had two videos, one where the birds were attacking his drone, and one where he had applied the tape and they completely ignored it. so it does work with coastal birds in the USA. As far as the strobe goes, I've been using my strobe during the day every time I fly now because of the helicopter incidents that have been in the news. I just have the strobe on for safety anyway and I have red and white reflective tape all over my drone. Birds that have been in my area have ignored my drone.

I just ordered my first drone,( DJI mini pro 4) and after watching this video i have already devised my own plan to protect the ship. This is a 4 step plan dependent on threat level assessment. 1- phaser's. 2- photon torpedoes 3- warp drive capability. 4- in the event of a Kobayashi Maru level situation........ self destruct capability. I am looking forward to traveling where no man has gone before. *(But maybe I will start out with the red reflective tape and the strobe light first :) Thanks for taking the time to make this video!

My experience. Which is based on a lot of flying in the US south-west. I have several drones that I've flown over the last 5+ years. I've had a few times where birds have flown close to a drone, as if they were curious. It made me nervous but never had actual contact. Plus many flights where no birds even came near the drone. A little over a year ago was the only exception. All of my drones are, let's say, DJI grey except one. This drone is bright orange. While flying this one over a canyon, up towards the base of the mountains, it was attacked / struck by what had to be a bird. I can't think of anything else that would be up in the sky, where the drone was. I never saw any birds flying by in the video feed. Because of my position and a couple of large trees, I couldn't see the drone for maybe a minute, no more, which is when something happened. In the video feed I saw the drone make an unusual motion but it was over in a second or so and I figured it was just some glitch that the drone experienced. After landing, while putting the drone away, I could see that it had been struck on the top side. After I got back home I inspected the drone closer and ended up super gluing a one inch crack in the plastic body, right on top. This is the only drone that I've ever had that was struck by a bird and it's the only bright orange colored one. I don't know if there's any connection, or not. This one is a small, sub 250g drone and I've flown it many times since that day. Except for the crack, it doesn't appear to have suffered any other damage and still flies like when it was new.

Great video. I have found that it is very helpful to know different species and how they react. I filmed kestrels hunting in uk and they were unbothered by my presence, I managed some very close-up filming. Whereas seagulls can be extremely pissed and aggressive. Knowing the breeding seasons is a must. The same birds can be very different at different times of the year.

Thanks for these ideas. i live in an area where plovers are numerous, and it is not uncommon for the drone to be mobbed by them. I think that we need to understand the situation from the birds' point of view, and be aware of the risk to them, even plovers. Fortunately Tasmanian magpies are not aggressive, and are rarely a problem here. I will definitely try the red tape and new props

@@peacefulthrillseeker I fully agree with you. It has been awhile since I have been in the area however I do plan on touring in my RV around the state as soon as possible. Unfortunately with staying in state parks it's illegal to fly over government controlled lands such as the state parks therefore I will need to find locations to fly in a couple months. Sand lake is nice however I think it's illegal according to Orlando city ordinance to actually fly there. So many restrictions based on where a person is nowadays and county ordinances vary from county and city.

I was about to ask you if you’ve tried alternative sounds. I know I own a company & we’ve built landfills all over the US & seagulls are obviously a huge issue-NOTE: we built one in Oklahoma in ‘95 & I found (2) AMAZING things there, near Tulsa (Muskogee): 1. Seagulls (not many, but they were there - sort of like Kramer swimming in the East River on Seinfeld!) & 2. Seashell traces deep inside the clay we dug up for use as cover for the “liner” to place on top of the existing landfill we were closing (as we dug out the pit for the new, Subtitle D** landfill (meaning it had a synthetic, HDPE liner on top of 24” of highly compacted clay, not simply a clay liner) adjacent. Just thought I would share that. On one of many trips to Caterpillar Inc’s “SS Factory” in Peoria, ILL where the D6-D11 Track Type Tractors have been built for decades (aka medium to large “bulldozers”) I found myself on the end of the paint booth one day & a “Carolina blue” (aka, sky blue for non-Americans 😂) was coming out, equipped with a WHA - Waste-Handling Arrangement…of course I asked what was up with that (WHASSSSUP WIT DAT?!?!), as it’s not unusual for certain larger outfits to paint differently from factory, but it’s a pain - because every part bought henceforth is CAT YELLOW… But the Godly UNC Blue will NOT BE touched by SEAGULLS…like EVER…they see that as their 🌊 & yes, they are that…(forgive me) 🐦🧠’ed !!!! #birdbrained Sorry for taking you from one side of Australia to the other by way of Madagascar, but I love to roll deep in the knowledge pool of useless info!😂 I love your info, too, esp when you tell colorful stories about the birds. 🔥 🤘💀🤘 You rock!

The ONE bird that took out my Mavic 3 Cine and the first 3 tips were completely useless, was a Peregrine Falcon. There was no flying above it, there was no getting my shot. Even in sport mode I could not get back to home fast enough. By the time I got to the home point the drone was overheating and landing on it's own. Can't believe it was able to make it back, but once it landed, it never took off again. The reason I know it was a Falcon was because it was still pursuing the drone even after landing.

I live on a lakeside area as my backyard is a lake so there are a number of different species around here such as hawks, river otters, there is a 6 to 8 foot alligator in the lake, possums, racoons and coyotes all in the general area. I need to be careful with our puppies and cat being outside with all these wild native animals in the general area and want to protect my DJI drone as well from the hawks. Someone local even took a photo of a bald eagle in the area this week even which is not common at all here.

depends on the drone and the bird. An eagle has a flight speed between 110kmh and 130kmh
@DavidkingEtienam
@DavidkingEtienam 3 ай бұрын
It depends on what mode you're flying in. I set my flight mode to cinematic, and when in cinematic mode, your evasive speed is drastically reduced. Secondly, you went up there to work, and not just to race birds, and you've got just about 20 to 30 minutes to do some work before your battery runs out. So, racing birds instead of doing the work that got you up there in the first place may not be advantageous to you. The less bird attention you have, the better for you.

Hmmmm... You made this same video 3 or 4 months ago. You never mentioned the strobe until I post it. I see that post in that video has been removed. You are one strange dude. PS: Using those red props is not a good idea. Those can SNAP by simply hitting a bee, twig, or anything at all. They are complete junk. I await your next video "These Red Props cost me my drone". ;)

I made a similar video a few months ago and I think it was your comment(and a few others) on the strobe that made me investigate it further. Thats why I have done this video, it is part of a series I'm doing to help people with bird problems for their drone.. Also, I havent removed any comments, I never do. I just checked that video and your comment is still there. This was your comment " @WOTHFPV 5 months ago 9 years as a pro pilot in Colorado, I've had dozens of red tail hawk and eagle encounters. But the only emergency situation I've had was caused by a magpie. It cost him his life, and it cost me a Zenmuse X5. I tried the orange reflector tape years ago, it had zero effect in my experience. What I found works the best is a red strobe on the drone. Not one issue in the past 6 years. They don't even bother my Inspire 2. I just got the M350T, first thing I did was stick two red strobes on the top." I'm not a strange dude, I havent done anything wrong to you at all but for some reason you feel feel the need to be negative. Good luck to you.

Why are you being so rude, many of us feel he is giving very good educational tips. By the way, I do like the red and blue props myself and appreciate being able to see the drone easier anyways I can with use of the red or blue prop guards as well.

Your problems with birds are self-inflicted. Who in their right mind flies near flocks of birds? 🤪 Also, flying near nesting areas is prohibited here in the U.S.

I dont choose to fly near nesting birds. I am a real estate photographer and quite often land or houses come up for sale near nesting birds. Agents or house owners wont wait for months for photos. They barely wait days. I cant just come back in a few months and photograph the land.
