@@BornCG glad you asked actually. Something I have been trying to do (as a mod for a game) is working on an outfit. The outfit has partially transparent areas, kinda like the way a shirt isn't fully opaque. The game will handle all that via its textures etc, but whilst I am still at the modelling stage it would be nice to get a texture with a partial alpha to work in blender. So far all I have been able to do is either fully opaque or fully transparent, never somewhere in between when using a, for example, a png with an alpha channel. By the same token, can blender use .dds files?

hi teacher, I'm newbie in learning Blender. Can you tell me about the difference between perspective and orthographic? Thank you so much!
@BornCG Жыл бұрын
Perspective = how we normally see in the real world. objects appear smaller as they get further away. Orthographic = 'flat 3D' where objects appear the same size even when further away -- this is how some 3D games (like: Sim City and I imagine many top-down strategy games) are visualized.

As a Maya user here's what I'm not understanding. In Maya the "move" transformation is W which allows you to slide the object along the 3 axes in world orientation or in object orientation using a gizmo; you can also grab the center of the gizmo to move based on perspective (not worth it imo). In Blender when you hit G you can only translate based on perspective, in order for me to use the gizmo I have to find it in the toolbox editor on the left side. This slows me down so much lol. Is there any other way to do this that I might not understand yet? I love the way Maya does it because it's FAST. I'm hoping Blender allows the same without having to pop into ortho each time or this is going to be a painful journey (or full of rebinding keys).
@BornCG Жыл бұрын
At 12:51 in this video I talk about & demonstrate the Transform Modifier Keys. If you type G, R, or S from any perspective view, especially G and R move/rotate from the view perspective, but then you can add more keys after any of the 3. eg: G then Z constrains moving to the Z axis (up/down), and even more: G then Z then 5 then Enter will move the cube up 5 meters on the Z axis. The same system works for all 3 transforms: G / R / S. eg: S then X then 2 then Enter will make the object twice as wide. You can also press G and then press Z Z (z twice) to move on the local Z axis (obviously similar for X Y and Z, and G/R/S). As you can probably tell, Blender is very keyboard shortcut heavy for proficient users. I hardly use this particular one as much as I should, but pressing Shift + Space (with your mouse cursor in the 3D View Editor) brings up a quick menu of all the tools on the toolbar at your mouse cursor. At the top-middle of the 3D View Editor you can also change the orientation of the gizmo between Global/Local/etc.

@BornCG4 жыл бұрын
I'm going to cover Blender in a more structured, 'small-chunking' way, with shorter more digestible videos on what you need to know to get going in Blender. My Blender 2.8 series was ambitious - where I made longer videos and tried to cram as much as I could into longer videos. Ultimately most people don't watch videos of that duration all the way through, so shorter videos makes more sense to me in hindsight.

I've never had any special issue recording to 4k from my 4k screen.. but tbh, while I did record to 4k (UHD) For a while, I've reverted back to 1440p to save me from some video editing slow-down, plus I was just setting my screen scaling to super high to compensate for everything being so small anyways.
