I was in the computer industry for 35 years, and now that I am retired, I spend a lot of time teaching people about 3d printing and other maker technologies. Blender has always mystified me. However, I needed to master it for a current project. I was ready to create a video teaching my 3d printer subscribers how to create 3d images from their STL files for posting on blogs, forums, and model sites. Before creating the video, I thought I would spend a few more minutes learning more about Blender, and I found your site. Outstanding. Many videos are incomprehensible, given the number of "magic keystrokes" folks use with Blender. Your videos are a breath of fresh air. Thank you, and I will give you a shout-out in my video that I expect to post in the next day or two.

Wow! So well explained. Best tutorial I have seen to understand the basics of Nodes. So many tutorials out there are on using nodes to make things but none so far that I have found (except yours) actually just explain node basics. You made them really easy and now I can watch other tutorials out there with much greater understanding! Thank you from Hawaii!

I learned a lot and will work through some of your other tutorials, tho. Thx. I'm using version: 4.1.1, branch: blender-v4.1-release. Hi Colin, big fan of your tutorials so far; they're really helping me get into Blender. Quick question: on my blender UI, I don't have the Emission Strength option mentioned at 15:03. The version I'm running is 2.90.1. Is there a preference setting that I missed? Also, the reflections on the reflective surfaces look much noisier on my screen than in the video. Is this a GPU issue or is there something I can fix in the software?
@BornCG3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Check a setting: go to the 📷 tab (second tab or so from the top) in the properties editor, and check which render engine you’re set to. Does it say cycles or eevee or workbench? I’m using eevee in this video, which changes render settings along with some material settings. If it’s noisier it sounds like you may have yours set to cycles.
@KaptainKa3 жыл бұрын
@@BornCG I think my reply got filtered because I posted links to show what my Blender looked like. Oh well. My render engine is set to Eevee, and my Material Properties menu is exactly the same as in the video except that it's missing the Emission Strength modifier. It's not super important for what my immediate plans are, but I figure I'd ask in case somebody else needs to know. Either way, thank you so much for being so helpful! EDIT: For anyone still wondering, I updated my Blender to 3.0.0 and the option is now there.

In my area, snow melts with some interesting properties. There are crystalline shapes that point toward the sun and a lot of sparkles. I took some video moving slowly over the snow so that the sparkles and shapes move. I'd love to have some text with surfaces made from the video I took. This video has pointed me in the right direction, especially the use of nodes. Any further tips would be much appreciated.

Wow! A lot has changed since the last time I was here to learn Blender! I usually have a lot of eggs in one basket, but since I'm now retired, I'm limiting the number of eggs I'm juggling to two. 1. I'm working on my lifelong goal of finishing a science fiction/fantasy book. and 2. As a precursor to buying my dream 3D printer, I'm relearning Blender. I wish we could have been this far by the third lesson the first time you taught me Blender. I once had a great fear of nodes, but you did a great job explaining them. I thought we would be learning cycles, but no! I would love to hear more about what brought this shift to Eevee. i.e., Is that an acronym? What are the differences? How about some history of changes since the early days? (I will look to see if you have videos on this.) I am looking forward to getting back into it, and I am so happy you are still here teaching. I am also glad your new videos have supplanted my fear of relearning all the old early Blender videos. The pleasure index of learning has multiplied tenfold! Thanks for being here for us!

Thanks for such a great series of tutorials! Does anyone know how to make it so that I can always see the viewport shaders options at the top of my viewport/editor window? When i have multiple editor windows side by side, and the 3D viewport gets squished, the 4 little globe buttons get cut off behind the edge of my window, maybe because they're always in the top row like the drop down editor tab is. In this video he has them at the end of a second row along with the gizmo + overlay buttons. How do i do that?
@ezio80002 жыл бұрын
Place your mouse pointer over the menu bar (the one you can't see completely) and roll the mouse wheel. The menu bar will pan back and forth.

You can add one mix shader after another before the final material output node. eg: mix a and b together, and then mix the result of a and b mixed with c after.

🚨 ⚠I wonder why the creators of Blender have chosen not to allow modifications to an object once you move it around in a scene. Like changing the amount of segments. Am I wrong in thinking this should be something that should be added ? ... if you look at Cinema 4D, you can do anything with an object and still go back and change the amount of segments... as long as you didn't click "make editable" .... do I have a good point ? I find this is a weak point in Blender.... am I wrong ?

Dear viewers and readers. I am mainly interested in knowing how I can put one of my photographs onto my model. I can do this in Blender 2.71 by cutting out appropriate pieces and simply putting them onto the correct locations of the exported UV mesh of the model. I do this all the time in 2.71 but I see no way to do this in 3.0. I also use Emulate numpad but the 9 key only rotates the object. It doesn't open up the little menu that says add mesh or something.
