When you show your brilliant knowledge of bike history, familiarity of every detail of certain models and understanding of every facet of mechanics you are at your best. Thoroughly enjoyed your coverage of this bike, particularly the part about Raleigh and Gazelle and the difference between the English and Dutch bicycle mindset. Well done. All the best.

Fabulous bike! Very jealous - I’ve been looking out for the Dutch versions ever since I saw your other video about them, to no avail sadly. As much as I like these bikes I’m probably too short to ride them comfortably as I’m only 5’ 4” and 19 or 20 inch frames seem to be my limit! 😅

Quite a bit of new information in here; at least to me. Thanks for the history lesson. I think you hit the nail on the head with the tyres, but I think it is still in part a colour issue. The cream tyres clash with the gold highlights…at least to me at any rate.

Pretty bicycle. But I've never seen a Dutch bicycle with a metal chain case. I actually have never seen a metal chain case in my life :)

How do the metal chain cases on superbes compare to the plastic Gazelle case?
@unbalancedcrank3 жыл бұрын
Well I’m biased both ways. I prefer a gazelle to a Raleigh, but I don’t like plastic, or anything things made from plastic. Therefore I prefer a Gazelle but with a steel or fabric chaincase.

Following my initial purchase of a used Pashley Sovereign and discovering this channel, I now own (and have lightly restored) a Raleigh Connoissuer. This video hooked me again and I've just got hold of this very same model Raleigh Superbe (identical to yours). It had a rather knackered Brooks B90/3 saddle on it, which I've now replaced with a B66. The tyres and inner tubes are shot and the front mudguard stays are snapped, so I've got a little sorting out to do. The key is missing from the frame lock...can replacements be obtained? Otherwise, the bike is in very good conndition and just needs a good clean, plus the usual TLC. How do I apply for membership to the club?
@unbalancedcrank2 жыл бұрын
You need to get on Facebook and join my group The Raleigh Roadster Club which incorporates the Raleigh Superbe Owners Club. There is a pinned post from the chap who made the original keys, offering new authentic replacements. Gazelle sell the appropriate mudguard stays (specify 26”).
