Boros is terrible in Commander, but it was my first guild when I just got into magic. The original ravnica starter theme deck came with two lightning helix and enough quality cards that buying two of them, mashing them together, and later when you save up for 4 copies of Char (then $10, now like a $1 or less) and you were ready to compete in FNM. Get some Glorius Anthem and Savanah Lions and the deck was on a roll. Boros will always have a soft spot in my heart.

2 of my 7 commander decks are boros. Then again, they're both of the a-typical boros commanders that don't care about combat (brion and firesong/sunspear). I love boros as a colour combo, but I find it a bit annoying that they keep getting shoved into the "only care about combat" corner.

it honestly depends on your playgroup. all my friends play aggressive, go-wide decks so I built firesong and sunspeaker boardwipes. it kicks ass

I'd be hesitant on Arboretum Elemental and Siege Wurm unless you have a particularly high count of splash sources of the correct color because of the double color weight on those cards. Other than that, I agree.

Yeah, I caught the 3-color splashing, too. Surveil and Undergrowth look like they're made for each other. Which is making it impossible for me to pick between Dimir and Golgari for the seeded pack.

I'm going Selesnya, because 1. When in doubt in Limited, I go GW midrange, and 2. This gives my preferred playstyle a wide versatility in which third color it splashes., especially for removal. Not enough Luminous Bonds, etc. or Prey Upon, but good removal in Black or Red? Splash that. Lacking a low curve, but some decent W/R hybrid from Boros? Put it in, coach. Not enough birbs? Solve that riddle with a Sphinx or duck that beat with a Drake. Lifelink finds a way.

Great video! I think I’m going to try Boros for 1V1 and Selesyna in 2HG with my friend running Dimir. I’m a bit nervous that Boros isn’t so great as mentor seems a bit awkward when so many mentor creatures have low toughness and need to attack to trigger but will have to try and see.

Honestly, Boros is the one guild I wouldn't splash a third colour with. Boros, as you said, is all about attacking quickly and trying to win the game fast, but being in three colours necessitates at least some lands which enter the battlefield tapped, and those slow you down. I don't want to be fumbling around with three or four tap lands to make sure my mana is consistent if I'm trying to win with 2-mana 2/1s. Also, I don't think it's correct for any boros aggro deck to play any spell that costs more than 5, with the possible exception of Light of the Legion because it's THAT good. I wouldn't play Swathcutter Giant and probably not inescapable blaze, since a boros deck really wants to play 16 lands.

idk man Swathcutter is nuts. Especially against Selesnya/Boros mirror. I dont see myself ever cutting it unless im absolutely loaded on valuable 2-3 drops, which might happen in draft but I dont think you ever want to not play swathcutter in sealed. I agree about the 3rd color splash for Boros in specific though. May not be necessary, though maybe pre-sleeving a 3rd color that improves your lategame and siding it in could be an idea against a deck you aren't able to run over.

Let's say you've got a Boros deck with 8 Plains and 8 Mountains (16 lands total) It''s turn 6 and you're on the draw, you didn't mulligan so you've seen 13 cards total. Your odds of having seen six lands at this point are only 41 percent. They go up to 52% on turn 7, and 62% on turn 8. That's not very good for a six drop that doesn't do anything for you until you untap and attack with it the following turn. If you're playing a 17 land deck, you still only have a 50 percent chance to see your sixth land by turn 6 on the draw.

I can't wait for Simic. The strenght of Selesnya, and all the control of Blue. If I had to make a mechanic around it, I would make you scry every time you put a counter on a creature, or put a counter on a creature every time you scry. With that color combination both should be quite easy to pull of, at least in constructed.
