Loving this plugin! It sounds great and is innovative. Would like to see half and double time settings in the next update. Many people program at twice the tempo, so it would make the presets usable to them.

why not just use multiple instances?
@hunghoangmusic
@hunghoangmusic Жыл бұрын
@@etyrnal because it will put too much stress on the cpu, it can be done but not an effective method. Imagine if the session already had too many plugins on, the session might be crashed. Not to mention if you want to change the sample in the plugins (but still keep the midi info), that would have been a nightmare if we do that with multiple tracks.

I am completely in love with the sound. But I’m confused. Can you not play the sounds in the sequence section freehand, like, using the keyboard? It seems like your only access to the sounds in the sequence section is by programming a sequence in the sequencer. Is that right? Also, can you change the amount of bats in a sequence?

It sounds great but lacks a LOT of ordinary features like background audio, midi sync and so on. A percussion app that doesn't sync right is unusable. And its really sad to see the updates happening only for standalone version, which is unusable on iOS without background audio unless you just want to be toying with it.

Very interesting plugin, been using it for a bit on a live setup in ableton. I have a question however. Is it possible to "trigger" the sequences without having to keep pressing the key on my midi keyboard ? I would like to be able to play guitar at the same time
@klevgrand
@klevgrand 2 жыл бұрын
For Ableton Live we'd recommend using Clips, which in this case contains only the MIDI note that you'd like to trigger. The clip can then be triggered by using MIDI keyboard (or whatever MIDI command you'd like). Also, make sure that the length of the clip is the same as the sequence length (or multiples of it), so that it won't re-trigger in an unwanted way.

As far as I can tell this app can’t be triggered to start and stop by a sequencer, it requires an actual MIDI press or note, is this correct?

not sure if this is the best way to put it but, is the brushing simulated in this plugin coming from 1 hand/brush or both (/would a real drummer need both hands or 1 only to replay what one instance of borsta is playing)? do we have any control over this, as in the events are one hand/brush and the one shots the 2nd brush? i'm trying to make sense of how to use this in the context on wanting to make a full "real sounding" drumkit - i'm guessing one or 2 instances of borsta, maybe for snare & highhats and the rest (cymbals & toms) from samples/other drum plugins? that's why i wonder about the hand/brush numbers. but also, will it not sound too off if cymbals and toms are being played "with sticks" and the hats & snare with brushes? or does it come down to using only one instance of this and paying attention to the midi sequencing of the entire "kit" - so it sounds like the drummer is playing with 1 stick and 1 brush? how do you guys intend to use this in this context? edit: and even the percussion sounds lol again, maybe idk enough about the instrument/it's players, but aren't all these congas and djambes played with the hand? i love how it sounds so much, but cannot make sense of the brush strokes and oneshots playing at the same time (one shots sound played by hand)
@klevgrand
@klevgrand Жыл бұрын
Borsta has the possibility to create patterns that you can play with one hand as a drummer and patterns you would need both for. A tip is to start with one of the many presets and work your way from there.

I have Borsta, and running it (playing with it) in Logic ProX n the Mac. But it seems to have a mind of its own regarding tempo. How do I get it to follow the tempo of the DAW, in my case, Logic ProX?

I’m using the IOS version. How do you get INIT on that or just blank. Very frustrating that starting blank isn’t obvious on iOS.
@klevgrand
@klevgrand 2 жыл бұрын
From Sebastian: Hi! Unfortunately this wasn't pointed out properly in the tutorial. I made a user preset called "Init" in order to start on a blank slate. However, when starting Borsta, we wanted the user to get started as soon as possible, and our experience is that most people want some kind of starting point, rather than a blank preset. Looking back now, I see a small pedagogical problem by doing this in the tutorial without mentioning it - I should have pointed this out. To solve this, simply create an empty sequence / set of sequences, and save it as a User Preset.

Is Borsta iOS really not compatible with Ableton LINK ??? I really hope I am wrong, but I can’t seem to find how to turn LINK on in Borsta. I bought both the Mac version and the iOS version and much prefer using the touch surface of the iPadPro to model the brush movement curves … but … if I can’t synchronise it with the DAW it makes it 90% less useful for me :-( This _really_ should be a priority in the next update.
@klevgrand

f you are running Borsta in a host you can sync the host to Ableton Link!

@@klevgrand You mean running Borsta in an iOS host ( like AUM ) on the iPad, and syncing that host to Live on the Mac ? Good to know that will work. What host do you recommend ? I would still very much prefer to just open the Borsta app and go, but thanks for that.
@mauadachi
@mauadachi Жыл бұрын
You'll have a really hard time trying to do that since Borsta doesn't really midi sync in AUM or else. It doesn't starts or stops with transport commands. I tried using it for a week but without those features it really seems unusable.

Hi, I've tried using it, but can't figure out how to work with the midi. How do I use it as a regular piano roll, where I can see the patterns? If I want brush on one section, one shots and another brush pattern on another section? And silence on other sections inbetween? Perhaps you could make more videos, "A Total Dummys' Guide to Borsta"?
@klevgrand
@klevgrand 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you play a note on any even octave, you'll trigger one of the 12 sequences (brush patterns). The pattern will loop as long as you hold the note, following the sequence length. A sequence can hold brush strokes and/or one-shots. If you want to add additional one-shots by playing, you can use the uneven octaves.
