Edit: Nevermind I just got to the end of the first movement and am sufficiently in tears. I dread to think what would happen if it were a live orchestra. Edit 2: Made it to the end and cried twice more. Oops haha Also a sidenote - the opening is v. reminiscent of Dvorak's New World second mvt opening

Really good performance. Similar in approach to the Coombs recording, but a bit nippier in the finale, which works, I think. The only thing is that the cutoff after each movement is quite sudden. I imagine that there was quite a bit of audience noise, but a more subtle fade would have helped.

Rach concerti are rigorously structured...? Lol
@samaritan292 жыл бұрын
@@milton3204 the 3rd is, take for instance the waltz section in a major in the 2nd movement where The 'Little Waltz' is just the main theme from Movement 1 but in the Locrean mode. Since Theme 1 is only fragmentally developed in movement 1, It gets another chance. Also, Only the second half of theme 2 of movement 1 is developed in movement 1, but then is it developed in movement 3 in a Huge way. As both the 2nd theme of the first movement (the expansive version), and the lyrical second theme of the 3rd movement share the same melodic contour, and the scherzando theme in the middle section of the 3rd movement is a thematic transformation of the same theme. In the 3rd movement, the entire development is based on the second theme of the first movement. It is in a hybrid theme and variations form. not to mention it is quoted directly in the central part of the middle section. I have not seen such cross movement planning in other concertos. Theres also the theme of the ossia cadenza which is used in the 3rd mvt. the Cadenza Primo uses the exact harmony but is kind of disguised.
