I wish I had watched this video before attempting to remove the inner bearing. Unfortunately the copper wires have been damaged and so they will need repairing. Great job and thank you for sharing your experience this is a detailed video with all the information needed to attempt this job.

Great video! Merci Beaucoup! I hadn't thought of using the front housing to pull the larger bearing! You made my day. Huge thanks, from Perth Western Australia!

Excellent. Is always a good idea to put extra grease in the bearing. Even for the new ones. !!!!!

You mean pull the seal and add grease

Great job, I have an old Bosch from a 94 BMW 525i I used to own. I placed the alternator but kept the old one since it was working well but had a noisy bearing. I figure I'd just rebuild it for resale.

What was the stand off tool with the black legs?
@mtlcarguy2 жыл бұрын
Simply a custom tool I made years ago with a square pipe.

Do you know a place in Montreal where to buy a slip ring and voltage regulator for a Bosch alternator?
@mtlcarguy2 жыл бұрын
No, I buy these parts on-line or sometimes I try to get them from kenny U pull.

Hi, this is awesome. Very helpful. How would you clean the cooper wire if it has gunk on it? I used brake cleaner last night, but I read somewhere about soaking it. Do u recommend?
@mtlcarguy6 ай бұрын
Personally, if needed, I simply spray some electric motor contact cleaner on the gunky components. So far, I never had to soak my parts because I have been able to obtain good results with my procedure and I cannot give my opinion about soaking.

those slip rings look pretty worn, I think it would have been a good idea to replace them while it's apart.
@mtlcarguy3 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right, they are worn. I only keep this old alternator as a spare one, but I don't think I will use it in the future because the other one I installed is probably good for 100,000 kilometers. I don't think I will keep my Volvo S40 for that long.

The inside components look exactly like my 07 bmw x3 alternator, btw there is a plastic piece sould be covering the rear bearing, i think u forgot to attach it.
@mtlcarguy Жыл бұрын
If you are referring to the white plastic collar used to center the bearing in place (shown @ 3:15 and 9:22), I simply kept it embedded in place in the rear case and I cleaned it.
