I bought this because I am an architect and also real estate appraiser. I am now thinking that I bought the wrong item as it does not have a type of measurement that’s called Pythagorean (my Stanley laser had). In order to get that measurement using this Bosch I would have to use one of the targets that’s received in the box, which takes more time to do that particular measurement. Can you tell me if it’s there and how do I find it?

I am looking to purchase this unit for one purpose only, and that is a space depth measurement to grain from above the grain. You had indicated that by turning the unit to the right, the screen with rotate right, and by turning the device to the left, the screen will rotate to the left. My question is this... if you rotate the unit upside down to measure the dept of a space, will the screen rotate to read correctly when the laser is pointing down?

Yes, when you point the unit down, the display reading is rightside up.

5:53 Sure would be nice if these multibillion companies were smart enough to make one that simply does "everything" for "reasonable" cost. I.e. measure distance PLUS vertical angles at the SAME time and show BOTH readings at the same time. Same for horizontal azimuth readings. Go ahead, and allow Bluetooth export of 3D points also. Phones these days can do this, but missing the the long distance laser Time of Flight (ToF) portion. (Yes Apple iPhone 12 and iPad Pro has LiDAR, but not long distance). Yeah, yeah, you can do this with a Leica S910. $$$$. Or a Total Station. $$$$$
@larsyoutube68375 жыл бұрын
Seams as one of the most price-worthy of the big brands. But is missing two neat features that e.g. Leica x310 has. First, a time delay, e.g. you have a tricky place to measure from (e.g. stretching out from a scaffold), hit the button aim carefully and it takes 5 seconds (or whatever you have set) until it measures. By that you avoid that the button press moves the device, on long distances that could be plentiful. The GLM Bluetooth remote could be used but that is a two-hand operation and that is not always possible. Second, GLM 50 only have one length on “stake out”, x310 has two, you can have one distance on the first and then make the further stake out with another distance. Handy for stake out wall studs where e.g. the first gap are less than the ordinary CC.

What type of device are you using Android or IOS? I downloaded the IOS app for my IPAD and it does not look the same as what you show in the video, a lot less functionality. I am trying to trouble shoot this. My original reason for purchasing the GLM-50C was to be able to remotely measure with the app, like you show. With the IOS app you have to press the button on the unit to measure anything.

Hi John - I feel some of the same frustration since upgrading to the iPhone 6s 3 months ago. The video was made using an Android device (HTC One) that was 3 years old. I like the app and function much better on the Android than the iPhone. The Bluetooth synch was also much better on the Android. It could be just my relative unfamiliarity with the iPhone but after 3 months, I the iPhone app and also develop an app for Windows based tablets.

I tried it on an Android device Samsung TAB A and all the goodies are there. For some reason Bosch built the app different in IOS. Maybe Bosch will update the IOS app, but until then it will be the TAB A. What is annoying is that I could not get a straight answer from Bosch customer service. they could save people a lot of headaches, but what is nice is that we users end up helping each other. thanks for the support.

@christopherh23706 жыл бұрын
I bought the GLM50c and downloaded the app and I found that using it inside where it's not so bright, it has its uses. The app is severely limited and it doesn't allow for walls with a radius nor are you allowed to move more than one object at a time. And heaven forbid if you have a house that is larger than the limited screen size, (you can only zoom out a limited amount. Better make sure the item you are measuring fits before you go to far and then you're stuck.) Outside on a normal sunny day it blows monkey chunks. Can't see the laser past 15' in sunlight. Great idea but very lacking for me for field use. Thank you for the video though. I appreciate the information.

Ok you almost convinced me not to buy an old Leica D2, what about precision? Diagonals? From a corner to another is it accurate? This kind of measurement is fundamental in longimetric survey.
@extremewoodworker8 жыл бұрын
Andreas Schmidt The manufacturer claims accurate to 1/16" and my spot checks on shorter distances (8-10 ft) seem to confirm that. Measruements are repeatable so the precision seems on. I am not familiar with longimetric survey so I am not qualified to answer the question on that.
@andreasschmidt60078 жыл бұрын
To put it simple, a plan is an horizontal section seen from above and taken at 1,20 m from the planking level (around 47 inches). Now, to an unprofessional level, it is common to believe a building is made of straight walls (both horizontally and vertically) at fixed angles (90° or similar). Which may be in part true for modern buildings, but since rooms aren't perfect rectangles or squares (even the best mason in history can't be that precise) the best way to get a knowledge of a building with longimetric survey (at least for the simpliest job: in which the walls you're going to measure are straight, and you have only straight lines) is to split the room in triangles. Geometrically speaking, a triangle is non-deformable: if you know the 3 leghts, you know at what angles draw a line (on paper or autocad). So, I wondered if this instrument can take a good measure from a corner to another (ultrasound rules can't, for example). Thak you for your time anyway.

Does the function "Indirect height measurement" as like the function "Indirect length measurement" work, if the angle of measurement exceed 60 degree (e.g. if the angle of inclination is 70 - 80 degrees or more)? Because I come across some posts on forums, for the GLM 80, that if the angle of inclination exceed 60 degree the laser automaticaly turns off. So I was wondering to know if the same thing happens with the GLM 50C! Test it and let us know :) Best regards
@extremewoodworker8 жыл бұрын
I checked this up to 79 degrees and it works fine. I don't use indirect heigfht measurements very often. There have been a number of questions about this so maybe a video on the three indirect measurements is in order. It would be a lot more useful to me if it did horizontal indirect measurements.
