Finally got round to recording an update to my first review on my Bosch Serie 8 Oven. This review basically highlights a few issues/concerns that I have had with the oven over the months I have owned it.
I am very happy with it still!

Thx for the reviews! I used to have issues with the touchscreen as well. What seems to work is wait till the Bosch sound has ended, and than press the touchscreen. It hasn't been a problem since! Perhaps this problem can be solved permanently when I've updated the system, but I haven't tried it yet. Hope this will work for others as well!

Thank you for taking the time to answer many questions I had about my new Bosch HBG676ES6 that we just installed a few weeks ago. I've only baked bread and dinner rolls thus far, but have been very happy. Now it's time to use the meat probe and roast a turkey. You're insight are most appreciated.

No problem! Glad you are as happy as I am. Did you use the baking sensor for the bread? I have only ever used it for cakes so far. I have found the meat probe to be very good - the only issue I had is just to remember things continue to cook after taking out, I like my beef rare and using the probe and cooking for 49C still seems to overcook it slightly. Good luck!

Thank you for your reviews on this oven. We are just about to have a new kitchen fitted and chose this oven - then having a few doubts as we hadn’t done any research before as the kitchen company recommended it. Just checking everything through before we are unable to make any changes to our decisions. I like a lot of the features and the only thing that would put me off is the touch screen issue you describe. Will do a bit more research on similar products to see if I can remedy that problem. Great reviews, so useful.

Hi! It is a good oven, the touch screen issue did annoy me at first, especially with the cost, but I have not had any issues with it that has forced me to call out a service person. As long as you keep it clean it seems to be fine. I have not heard about other issues with touch screen ovens, so maybe I just got a tempormental one?

you can clean the racks more easily if you use bicarbonate of soda on a damp cloth (hot and soapy). The powder really sticks to the burnt on grease and you need a lot less effort. You don't need to use abrasive brushes or pads at all with this method. I tend to leave the bicarbonate on the racks as well - I do not rinse off at all as it seems to make it even easier the next time you need to clean your racks. This method of cleaning works on any surface around the house if you have a stubborn stain.

You seem to be really enthusiastic about your oven (I have the smaller version with microwave). Like you, I have found the touch screen temperamental (always the same button - mine is the centre right) but have noticed that if it is playing up, warming my fingers, or (as you found) using two together often helps. You tell us about some of the items you cook in it, but have you ever thought of showing us how you cook them? Adding more of your comments about how you get around some of the annoyances ( ie cooking the Yorkshires first then putting them back in at the end) during these would be helpful. So often you see just individual items cooked, but there seems to be a gap in the market where people cook a full (rather than one pot) meal - perhaps you should take on the challenge and fill it!

It sure if the new version will do the same. On the touch screen have you tried the wipes you use for eye glasses that get rid of greasy fingerprints. I get this every now on the iPad/iPhone and the wipes work a treat. Still buying the oven though and thanks for the reviews. Luckily I am getting the matching combination oven/microwave. The touchscreen does seem to work again, I did give it a clean with a wet wipe type thing and that seems to have worked, maybe it was grease? Good luck with your new oven/microwave! I have seen that. You start it upside-down and then rotate when it tells you. I have never tried cooking a turkey before but I think it would work perfectly fine and you could trust it to cook it correctly. Really great videos. Thanks a lot. One question about cooling fan blowing air out at the top. You said that it did not blow hot air out. Does the fan start automatically when you start the oven? Does it run for how long after you shut down the oven? How you find the cooling air flow to be significant, noisy or disturbing in any way?
@everythingandthekitchensink
@everythingandthekitchensink 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, the fan kicks in automatically about 5 or so minutes in to turning on the oven (but I guess it depends on how hot you heat it). You hardly hear it when in use. The air that comes out is warm and I again depends on how hot you turn the oven. When you turn off the oven the fan continues but you can not hear it. In the settings you can adjust the fan settings from 'auto' to minimal if you like. The only time the fan is loud enough for you to hear is during the cleaning cycle, it really blasts then!

@@nickwestwood3057 Hi, I only have the series 6 Induction hob (review on my channel). Previously I had a ceramic hob from Indesit. I would highly recommend induction over any other type of hob, you get the same level of control like you do with gas but with the easy clean up of a simple glass top. I can't really recommend a specific hob, go for the best you can afford. A series 8 would be top of the line, I have the 6 and if you just want a basic hob that works well, go for the series 4. Be careful of hobs that 'plug in' to the wall, the level of power they can produce is limited therefore you won't get the full benefits of induction power. Hope that helps a little :-)

Nice video, can you sum up how you find home connect? Practical help or one use gimmick? Does it offer more control than you might have through the oven interface? I guess I kind of think how would I know what to do with any controls I had on my phone without looking at how things were going in the oven and therefore what's the point? Does it integrate timers or something? A few pointers here would be ace thx! 😀
@everythingandthekitchensink
@everythingandthekitchensink 4 жыл бұрын
HI! Thanks for the question. Personally I don't really use home connect features, maybe I just have not got round to it yet, and maybe it is better than I think it can be? BUT, to give you a more detailed answer. Home Connect does let you manage your oven fully from the app (the iPad app is better because its a larger display and better layout). You can setup normal programs as well as using the Assist feature. In fact its better on the app with Assist because it shows you everything you can cook in a simple list (with a sub section breakdown) It also gives you more details than the oven does, or it seems to anyway... explaining all the features etc. You can also use the built in recipe feature to send the program direct to the oven. You can access the cleaning features and all that too. The app gives you a continuous update on what's happening with the oven.... the time it's been on, how long is left if you are using the timer, it gives the temp of the meat probe and all that. One simple feature I like is that it sends a notification to your phone (and if you have an Apple Watch, to that too) informing you when the oven has preheated, finished etc. This is useful if you are doing lots and the same time and not necessary in the kitchen. The app is on iPhone (that I use) and Android. I would recommending downloading the app now... you can put it on DEMO mode and see all the features it can do on the oven (and all the other appliances) before you buy.

@@everythingandthekitchensink Thank you so much for such a detailed and thoughtful response. You balance practical experience with an appreciation of how you personally use the oven whilst seemingly thinking hard about how someone else may and that's what makes your content so good. I notice from reading about the serie 8 oven, that there are 2 lower specification series 8 models, one which doesn't have the 3 touch screen interface, only the central ring with fewer automatic programs but no perfect roast/bake and the lowest one which is about £550-600 does not have automatic programs or even pyrolytic clean. When you look at the thumbnails on websites it is easy to think you are getting the same basic features because it is a serie 8 but they are quite different. I found Marks electrical website was good in that they attach the user manual to each model which means you can really get to the bottom of what each does and does not do and indeed what they come with as the bottom of the serie 8 range don't have a pull out shelf and the accessories vary. Like you my oven is under the hob and I have for the last 10 year years worked using 2 x decent spec counter top combination microwave instead because I just don't like getting down low to handle the hot contents of the oven (my kitchen needs redesign!) but the pull out tray changes my thoughts on this. Thanks again and thank you for your quick response.

Hi! Sounds bad! First thing I world do is purchase an oven thermometer (get one from Amazon) set the temp to 180 and place the thermometer in the oven and check it’s reaching the correct temp. Have you tried other settings other than 4D? Top/bottom for example? Does the oven feel that hot? If you use fast preheat with 4D all the elements turn on, so it may feel hot when you put the food in, but your fan element at the back may have failed so the oven does not heat up correctly? If it is that you would need a service or specialist to replace the faulty parts. Hope that helps??

Couple of comments. Never refrigerate Yorkshire puddings. The moisture from the fridge will make them go soggy. Once cold, Tin foil them, then reheat when needed. Second, the reason why the belly of pork didn’t come out great is because you didn’t render the fat first. If you fry it in a frying pan first, skin down you will get a better result (this is because crispy crackling is produced in ovens at a temp of 430 degrees Celsius for a short period, this would kill the meat, the pan mimics the ultra high temp stage) 3rd. Like all advanced ovens you need to stage your cooking for roasts. For meats, cook them then tin foil them and store for no longer than 90 minutes at room temperature. The tin foil is to reduce moisture loss. This will also allow your meat to rest aka tenderise. This works for everything other than pork (with crackling). You can then carve and speed heat the meat when you reheat yorkies. Gravy or stock will stop the meat drying out. Hope this is helpful 😊

Thanks so much, there's such a lack of detailed information online about ovens so was great to see your review. Was very interested to learn about the issues you encounter cooking two things at the same time. I know that Samsung do a very impressive single oven which splits into two but not sure how hard wearing their ovens are. Are you aware of any other ovens which offer a dual cooking facility? Finally what would be your required features if you were to buy again? Meat Probe, steam function or dual cooking?
@everythingandthekitchensink
@everythingandthekitchensink 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I have seen those ovens that have the metal plate that you use to spilt it into two separate ovens, a clever idea. Ideally I would just like two ovens! Features I like: the meat probe I use quite a bit. Dont have steam but my microwave does and I hardly ever use it, so perhaps not the must useful. Dual cooking, perhaps would be good but I have not really had any issues with only having the one oven. I have been using the remote start feature more than I expected... with lockdown I have been putting things in the oven and then going out for some exercise and when Im one my way home I turn on the oven to cook my dinner when I get back.

Hi! Thank you. I will try and be helpful with the following... I tend to use 4D hot air for everything, I very rarely use the auto cook functions. When cooking pasty, do you blind bake it before hand? I often do this and then add the filling and have no issues with soggy bottoms on pastry? There is an oven function called Bottom heat which is designed for cooking pasty, but I have not really used it. If you do this already, maybe you could brush the blind baked pastry with egg wash, bake another 5 mins, then add the filling and continue to cook as normal, this may help with keeping it crisp? I would cook a pie at 180C 4D hot air, but time wise it would depend on the filling so I can't really help you there. When cooking a roast I normally cook at the temperature the roast meat should be cooked, using 4D hot air, and put the roast potatoes in with it. When the meat is done I remove it to rest and turn the heat up high (say around 220C) and cook the potatoes to crisp up. I can't quite recall if there is an assist function for pastry or pies? Perhaps you could try that if there is and see what happens? Don't give up... going from GAS to Electric maybe strange but I am sure you will get used it it - you won't if you don't cook ;-)

@@susieglue9770 Hi, with 4D it should not matter where you place the item in the oven as the whole space should be the same temperature. If I am only cooking one thing I do tend to place it on the middle shelf as this is the telescopic one that is easier to get out. The bottom only heat should cook the top as well, its just that the heat will rise up through the base of the pie first. The top of the oven will get hot and cook the rest fine. I also think the fan is on during this cycle anyway?
