I think you have sumed up Bose pretty well here Michael. I had one 5 or 6 years ago and came very much to the same conclusion. Overpriced and under performing. You can get plenty of other systems for half price that sound just as good. I went on to use a pair of floorstanders at for my A/V system and sounds much better.

I always wondered how they sounded as a HiFi pair of speakers and nearly bought a some a few times. I think I was expecting lots of nice rounded bass and real tweeters

I had a later version and was conned by the HiFi shop who must have some magical setup to make them sound good. At home, they never sounded anywhere close to the quality of a normal pair of speakers that cost a fifth of the price I paid for them! I have had similar sized speakers from KEF and Q Acoustics and they were also very underwhelming. I won't touch small speakers with a barge pole now, bigger the better.

@AlexMitchell-sj4sb I've had many, many speakers since owning my Bose! At the moment I have the Wharfedale Linton Heritage (awesome sounding and look great) speakers in my main system, KEF Concertos (1970's) that I have reconditioned and upgraded the crossovers in my lounge and a ropey pair of Richard Allan Pavane II in another lounge plus a few more lying around.... I like speakers....
