I know we’re not the biggest fan of non embedded EQ’s on this channel but I will say this, I use Spotify over other music services simply because Spotify has a rather effective in app 5 band EQ alrighty built in. Boosting the 60hz band on their EQ just a bit I find adds a touch more depth to the Bose’s sound that I can really appreciate. I tend to just leave the 60hz band a little boosted for listening across (almost) all of my devices as especially with my AirPods max , I feel it just gives a little more energy and excitement to their sound. Really enjoying the audio from the Flex right now, this is the first time I think I’ve heard a Bose speaker in this size that I haven’t really had an issue with. It really is a warm, rather satisfying listen for casual use, especially nice for it’s pretty compact size.

It's a real shame they discontinued the Denon. It was ahead of its time. In spite of its issues it would be my pick between these 3. Unfortunately, the few places I've seen it recently the price is substantially higher than it's original retail price. The Bose did well but I'd choose the Denon over it because I typically don't listen at top volumes anyway. Thank you for another awesome comparison, Alan! 😁👍👏

still love my Denon it's quite usable for serious listening. If you use it regularly the battery self discharging becomes marginal. If you don't use it for longer time you can set it off completely with a simple button combo so you disable self discharging. Hard to find better separation and stereo effect in this size and form factor. Not perfect but pretty 'HiFi'. Still one of my favorites also in 2022 when it comes to sound quality.

I think use case plays a big part in the appreciation of the sound quality. With a portable speaker, intended for casual listening even outside, I don't think most people typically pay attention to mids, especially in a non controlled environment which does affect the sound enormously. I thing the tuning is just fit for purpose for the BOSE. If I really want to enjoy music that way, I'll seat in my couch with the audiophile arsenal take a book or close my eyes. Outise on a bike, I'd rather have a little bit more bass to counter the wind and other external noise, decent high to have a sense of clarity, enough medium to feel the sound a bit more open and wide. I think that's the equation BOSE nailed and made its success
I have the Denon and I’m sick of the discharging problem. Looking for a new replacement and was considering the Bose…
@ELM7772 жыл бұрын
Off topic but..... I got the trance 😶. Everything you said is spot on. For me it opens up at higher volumes but by then it's an overwhelming experience for indoors. As I mentioned I did apply an eq to bring it to a very clear and crisp sound with good bass that's tolerable for indoors and pretty bass deep compared to the preset sound for outdoor mode at high volumes. I still find myself angry that one volume level is a tad too low to give a full listening experience then one up touch after my doors are rattling. My conclusion is that it's not a bad buy seeing its 40 dollars above a boom or a motion plus but it's not a balanced speaker. Might as well boom your chest out or use an eq to tailor the sound at lower volumes. Motion+ is still my go to. Thanks for your reviews.

I actually purchased the Bose Flex today and compared it to the Denon Envaya and sound wise the Bose doesn't compete with the Denon. The problem with Denon is it has battery problems and you basically have to baby it to get it to work right. It's a shame because the Denon is a great sounding speaker and I haven't heard anything better in this size but it definately has connectivity problems and the battery drains fast unless you go throught the procedure where it doesn't drain the battery by pressing down on 3 buttons at the same time. I wouldn't recommend the Denon for a travel speaker and would stick with the Bose myself. I basically keep the Denon plugged in most of the time so I don't have to deal with the issues. I think this is the best sounding bt speaker I've ever heard from Bose and to have the option to connect to another Bose bt speaker is nice. I would say for a travel speaker this is a great option.

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS. Just a thought on the JBL Flip 6 vs the Bose SoundLink Flex. They are the same size and according to the internet the bose has a larger transducer than the JBL but the JBL has a tweeter and an adjustable equalizer within the app where as at this time on the bose connect app there is not an equalizer to adjust the sound. But I have another bose speaker and it uses a different music app and it runs on the bose msuic app and in the bose music app it has an equalizer so you can adjust the bass and the treble to your liking. And in the JBL portable app you can do the same thing except you can also adjust the mid-range. Bose could add an EQ to there app in the future/near future. Bc I read on the internet that when the JBL flip 6 was released it did not have an adjustable eq within its app for its speakers. But now it has an eq in the app. I think with the equalizer off on the JBL the bose sounds better but with the eq on I think the JBL sounds better. So if bose added an equalizer that could change things. I know the speaker has position IQ technology where it’s supposed to adjust the sound depending on which way you lay it but it would be nice to be able to turn that off if you wanted to. A similar portable speaker called the sonos roam has a similar feature but in the sonos s2 app you can turn that feature off. In the bose app you cannot do that or on the speaker itself either. And also Sonos has an adjustable EQ within the app like the JBL. The bose is behind the times with that but I bet they’ll change for the better. I would turn position IQ off and have an equalizer set to my liking if I could. I prefer my bose soundlink flex to sit upright so it’s pointing at me but they say it will produce more bass if you lay it flat, in my testing this is true. A little more bass for sure. Which I like. But I shouldn’t have to lay it flat to get maximum bass output. And the speaker needs better rubber feet on it because sometimes it will move it self. Or vibrate itself off the table. So I would recommend not placing it near the edge of a table if you don’t have to. Thank you for whoever actually takes the time to read this.

I take one of my Denons on every trip abroad, as well as in the uk to hotels in the lakes and London last year. It certainly is travel size. @DJunclepaul2nd2 жыл бұрын
@@alanrossreviews on a week's holiday, playing a bit of music in the morning and before going out later, it lasts without a charge (if you charge it before going). That's about an HR and a half each day. The drain is more something that takes more than a week to be noticeable I find. of course it's not hard to plug a cable in if it's running low. We used it for a day in our hire car in Rhodes as the stereo was terrible. When we had a weekend in the lakes and in London we played a little music and watched a few films later in the evenings, no charging, no problem. At home, I do have cables plugged into power outlets in the kitchen and bedroom, where the speakers are. And yes, it is just part of having them, once a week charging one or the other. If one is found to be low I can just grab the other, a plus point of having two.

The Bose is only nice in this form factor otherwise I would pick up better alternatives for it since I can compromise in the size department. The Denon though is more like irreplaceable for me since its better at what it does than most other hi-fi speakers that are tuned for analytical listening.

Please Read This: Bose needs to do better as a company and actually innovate with the speaker technology and also have support representatives available to support and answer their customers questions. Plus the speaker apps and portable speaker apps and headphone apps are buggy and outdated. Why is bose letting the competition get ahead and surpass them? The speaker technology is adequate compared to the competition and the apps are buggy and suck compared to some of the competition like sonos and JBL. Bose just needs to do better. Denon has just too many issues. You don´t want to deal with this battery drain issue on your travel speaker for instance . And the volume sync issue has been a deal breaker for me from the beginning. It is also too large and too heavy in 2022. And soundwise Bose still outperforms in terms of bass. And I can´t hear any strong deep bass on Denon. It actually sounds thin in comparison with Bose. Denon has a more open sound but this is pretty much the only positive thing I can think of when it comes to Denon. There are plenty of alternatives currently.
