BOSE Soundlink Mini II: Will Not Charge - Red Flashing Light issue | Easy Fix

This is how I fixed the red flashing light issue of my BOSE Soundlink Mini II Bluetooth speaker.

The first time when it happened I could downgrade it to the old firmware, the second time there was only one version - the current one, but I could update it and it worked.
If the speaker cannot be found on the BOSE website, it can be that the cable you are using is not compatible, it happened to me already. Try again with another cable.
This is the link:

1. Download the software updater btu.bose.com/#...
2. Connect the speaker to your computer with the mini USB cable.
3. Go to the btu.bose.com site
4. Wait until it connects to your speaker and gives you the software version.
5. Whatever happens, you need to update the firmware (either upgrade or downgrade). That's what needs to be done in order to reset the fault firmware.
6. To go in advance mode, you need to press these keys in order: 'a', 'd', 'v', 'up arrow', 'down arrow' and then you see the menu. I wasn't able to change the version BUT, I updated it to the current version once again and it worked.
7. At about 80% you'll see the red flashing light go orange and there are beeps and things, after this simply let it charge and you are done.
9. Since then I decided to keep the speaker always in its dock to be charged and I did not get this error again ever since.

In case this doesn't work, following the same steps and typing O, P, T, Up, Down (instead of A, D, V, Up, Down) and then following the instructions on screen to "Clear Errors" (which clears any error states the speaker might be stuck in) is what did it for me.

@@tobylowe7888 If you mean that O, P, T, Up, Down is not doing anything: Did you install the Bose Update Installer? You have to do that first. If it's not doing anything after you already installed it, went through the steps in the video, and clicked on "Clear Errors", then that's just not what's causing your problem ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If it's just because the red light's still flashing: yes it will, but the speaker will charge normally again if you connect it _to the Bose charger_ (or a charger with equivalent voltage and amps).

@@dhananjaykadam2786 Output 5V-1600mA. But there might be some hardware in it that communicates with the hardware in the speaker. Bose seems to indicate that in certain error cases, you need the original charger, not just a compatible one... Then again, it might just be a marketing thing 🤷‍♂

Help, I have done it and it works but after a few minutes it turns off again and the red light flashes, the battery charge can hold up because I did it the next day and it was 70%, the speaker is one year old soundlink mini 2 special edition , please help.

This worked! Reinstalling the update (even though it was up to date) did the trick. You do need to press a,d,v, up, down to get to the advanced settings. I also had to use the cable that came with the speaker, any other USB cable did not work. Bose needs to have this simple fix listed on their website and a button to easily access the advanced settings in the software updater. Thank you very much Razvan!

Oh man I've updated mine I've tried pressing multi button and tried charging but still red light .what am I doing wrong ? Could it be cord?? Hey Robert, after the update as far as I know it should be left alone for a few hours to charge. When the battery is moderately full it will become amber and then green. Then you can start it, not before. Try to follow the steps from my video one after another and see if it works.

It worked, but not without the Bose USB charging cable that came with the unit. I unknowingly tried 2 others thinking they were the Bose cord and got no where. I was about to give up when I finally found the cord with "Bose" on it! Thank you, so much, glad to have my speaker back!

One PROBLEM: BOSE Updater will not work with (very) discharged battery. FIX: Depress middle multifunction button >12s until white LED flashes. Disconnect power. WAIT 48 hours, then connect to PC BOSE Updater. Press "shift+ A+ D+ V+ up+ down" keys in that order. When the white LED flashes it will begin to charge. Charge for 4 hours. If necessary you may update firmware to v1.1.4 then. The reset and 48 hr waiting is important if your battery is completely discharged.

Hey, sometimes it happens like this when the firmware is already the latest version. I reinstalled the current one and it worked. If there is no update, simply re-install the current or older one. Let me know : )

Hey Dimitri, this will happen again and again if you leave it unused. Mine got into shipping mode at least 2 times more. Unfortunately, who does not find this fix online, will either throw it away or must pay for "the repair".

July 2024 and this tutorial worked like a charm ! Thanks man, I really appreciate it ! I was using my speaker when it suddently stopped working. I thought the battery was off and then it kept on flashing red when plugged into the charger... After the re update of the firmware, I was able to turn it on again and it even said that the battery was 80% charged O_o I can't help myself of thinking that it is an obvious case of planned obsolescence to force me buying a new speaker... but hey, it will wait a little bit longer as the speaker is back to life now :-)

@@razvanyke Unfortunately, I add to redo the tutorial 3 more times since my last comment as my soundlink keep on suddentlly turns off with the red flashing light. Everytime, your tutorial bring it back to life and I can see that the battery is still charged up to 70 or 80% so the issue is coming from elsewhere... :( At the second crash, I thought it could be linked to the "loud sound" I played for 1 single song (meaning a bigger need of energy from the battery) but no, the third crash occured during a light level of music so I need to keep on looking for the root source of the problem. I hesitate to spend money on buying a new battery to replace the original one as I have no clue if it will fix the problem or not :/ Any ideas/thoughts will be appreciated ;-)
