Thanks for your concise, and honest review. I’ve been a fan of Bose for year because their sound quality. I’ve been waiting for these to come out as I am not a fan of their ear buds, or any other brand of ear buds because my ear canal is extremely narrow. I think I’ll give them a shot and see if they work our for me.

This sounds like a Kickstarter product not something from Bose. I love my Aftershokz Aeropex headphones but I understand that they might not be for everyone. Would still recommend giving them a shot over this product as they’re a much better overall package (better design/fit, better for IMO, better charging solution, better button layout).

There's so many amazing sport earbuds available in the market. Depending on the person, this could be something great of having many options and also very overwhelmed with the amount of options available. I'm currently using five different types of earbuds for my runs or when I'm training at the gym. They all sound amazing but of course they have their pros and cons. Great video, my friend. Happy Friday :-)

This is a super thorough review and I thought all of your comments were spot on having bought the Bose a few days ago. Your video was right on. I tried the Bose Open Earbuds too. I loved the full sound but the fit was very uncomfortable. The charging pad was tempting for my 4yo. Bose doesn’t fit my lifestyle right now so I had to send them back. I’m willing to give them another try if they can fix the fit so that it is similar to the PowerBeats Pro fit and the battery charging situation. I don’t like any in ear or over the ear headphones but I like the full sound that Bose offers. Oh well... I’ll just have to continue my search. Maybe I’ll give Aftershokz a try. Great video!

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the new Aftershokz Aeropex. I've run with AfterShokz since the Titaniums and love them but I agree that I felt like I use to have to crank the volume. I think the Aeropex fit a lot better and the sound quality and clarity are much better at lower volumes. I run on a lot of local neighborhood roads so I always opt for open-ear headphones so I can hear cars approaching.

The thing about aftershokz is that you need to switch between equalizer modes to get better quality audio when you not using plugs, and even then the quality of the audio is not something for an audiophile. The missing bass/low frequencies is something that is common to bone induction tech, so nothing that can be done about it other than mitigating it thru using ear protection to reduce the loss. I tend to use mine while working in very noisy environment (construction work) and I can hear just fine both environment and people never notice whether I’m using the phone as usual or through the phones. Either way, the review of this new device by Bose was very enlightening, I was considering getting it as a birthday present to a friend but I might pass on that for now. Thanks for the review :)

Love that you talked about the comparisons we all want to know about. Bone conduction AND the pass-through audio. Super informative. Thanks!! Along the same vein overall then. Not necessarily for running, but for general use would you rather have one of these products, or just use a regular wireless earbud, but just in one ear?

I'm a 'turn the volume down when parking or finding the address' guy too. The awkward section is spot on, the charging arrangement is very weird, it's like they have done all in on this natural design style but forgot function all together. Wireless air buds have good enough battery life but come with the comfort knowing that the case is going to keep them topped up, these you have to manage too much ensuring you get through the day to charge them... Maybe that's why they have a button mapped to just tell you the battery life.

Its sound like they are perfect for me. I was running with ear pods, beats x, air pods. Air pods pro also air pods pro with foam and bands. What i dont like all the earbuds feel of my right ear at some point of training. If you run or sprint 2:30min/km it sucks and you are unsecure. And the most disadvantage is the charging case for all other companies. As a runner i want to go to work with my earbuds and run after 6-10 hours to home without a charging case in my pocket. Most times my running pants have no pockets. So you can not do it with air pods. If you try to go out with air pods without the case. Sometimes one air pod is not connect and you have to put them in the case to reset the connection. This looks on the bose better if charging is not in the case and you can take them without the case with you and turn them on later. Hope they will released soon in germany.

I was on the fence about these already, but seeing the inconveniences like the non-charging case, strange charging dock, lack of auto-off function in the case as a result...I'll be passing on these. Really hoping Aftershokz does something with true wireless. I do wish the quality was a bit better, but given everything else they do right, their aeropex is my favorite for anything active just because I always like to hear my surroundings.

Great review! I have been waiting for a year now for Bose to come out with something better (smaller/water resistant) than the Sound Sport Free. However, after watching this review I am not sure I want a pair. To have a case that does not charge is really bad design. Also, not auto shutoff is really bad too. My main issue with the Sound Sport free was their bulkiness. They made you look like you had mushrooms coming out of your ears. Also, they were not great in very cold weather (Bose eventually fixed that) and lastly not great in the rain. I went through two pairs when I finally decided to not use them in any rain even with a hood. Have you done a review of the new Bose Sport Earbuds? They look slightly smaller than the Free but still larger than the iPods.
@curiousurick3 жыл бұрын
The only reason I can think of for Bose to go with a regular case and charging dock is price. They probably didn't think they could get the price below $200 if they did a giant battery case. Considering the most expensive competitor is $159, they probably didn't want to get higher than $200

I was excited about this product when I read abou it because I'm one who doesn't like in-ear buds. But honestly after an hour after I received my order today, they are back in the box to be returned. These product I consider it still very experimental and while the concept is nice, it's not impleted well and i'm dissappointed becouse it has a reputable brand name on it. The volume is very low and it only sounds listenable at 50% after that the bass dissapears and the sound becames tiny. The earloop is made of hard plastic and a seam is visible on the part that goes at the top of the ear. The loop is fixed and at least for me they felt heavy and both of my ears were in pain after an hour having them on. For $200 I'm sure there are other options out there. I'm not a runner I just don't like the feeling of having my ear canals plugged with an in-ear bud, at least not during the day while taking calls or driving. But like may people have said, these are not for everyone and they only way to know if by trying them on.

May I ask about the sound leakage. If, say, you're listening to music (with open ear, the volume always depends on the ambient noise), which one is easier for the person sitting close to you to listen of each headset?
@kofuzi3 жыл бұрын
A person next to you is going to hear what your listening to either way. I have not bothered to get a decibel meter out to check which one is worse. My hypothesis is that the answer is probably that they are about the same, and I don’t know if the answer would change depending on the unique anatomy (bone structure, fat content, musculature, etc) of the wearer.
@PatrickHavilah3 жыл бұрын
@@kofuzi I see, then I'd say it's quite good. Early Aftershokz had really bad sound leakage. I switched from the original Bluez to the Trekz Air and the sound leakage changed significantly

Interesting review. Generally enjoyed my Bose tethered sound sport earbuds. Don’t know if I could do the external loop. Curious how loud the audio is for other people near by as it’s open? Charging situation probably makes them a no go for me. Just ordered some Vankyos because I can’t justify 150+ for something that may not fit me.
@kofuzi3 жыл бұрын
I don’t have a decibel meter, and I think that’s really what’s necessary to answer this question. The aftershokz seem to have much more noise bleed when the earbuds are set on a table. But when the Bose are pressed against something, like near your ear, the sound seems to amplify, like cupping an iPhone speaker. So I can’t really tell without additional instruments
@antigravity193 жыл бұрын
@@kofuzi I guess I wasn't thinking anything so technical. Just curious if everyone can hear what you are listening to as its more like a mini-speaker than an earphone. I was thinking the same thing about cupping, your ear helping project it way. Guess if your family didn't mention it when you were testing perhaps it isn't actually a problem

Bowe is a hard thick rigid plastic with sharp seams that dig and cut into your ears like a plastic knife. Besides it being so thick it makes your ears stick out like a hobbit and they are slippery with a case that doesn't even have magnet to hold them in, the sound quality is amazing for open ears. Which is makes it so frustrating and mocking. The afterhockz sound like crap but are very comfortable and durable. Can't win. NO way i'd use in ear buds for cycling in the road or trails even with transparency modes.
