When I was 23 I met my fiance Calvin. Someone gave us this CD and we drove around the entire United states with only this CD, OutKast and UGK lol. I didn't even care for Mars Volta but we listened to this and would scream at the top of our lungs. My fiance passed away when we were 25. I'll miss him forever.

I've been a long time fan of many projects Omar has been involved with and I have to say that BR satisfies me in a way that no other has. I love the emphasis on quality songwriting. For me this album is a throwback to when albums were made as a whole without the lie of a couple of singles with a bunch of filler songs. Teri/Teresa is a tour de force as a frontwoman, she has the talent, the stage presence, the beauty and most importantly amazingly versatile vocal chops. Everyone should like this.

Omar Rodriguez-López (the guitarist) of this band was also the person in charge of The Mars Volta (an amazing progressive rock band) alongside vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala who was also in another band with Omar called At the Drive-In, and they released possibly the greatest post-hardcore album of all time, "Relationship of Command"

Really? I loved Noctourniquet! Really I love everything they did. I had a hard time coping with Octahedron at first but it really grew on me. Maybe I'm just weird, my favourite TMV album is Amputechture. I love all their albums though, without exception. I really don't think anyone else could have written any of their stuff, including, maybe even especially Noctourniquet. Who else makes such fucked up quasi-electronic music? I was glad they went in crazy unpredictable directions.

Saw this band live- They were hands down the best, most entrancing act I have ever seen. They have a ridiculous intense stage presence that sucks you in and leaves you reeling- wondering where the last 40 minutes went. Sure, you can make arguments about old Volta blah blah blah- But inspected apart from the past and taken in as a separate entity you have to admit this shit is really, really, good- and welcome in a desperately lacking modern music scene.

underrated album. I think there is some dislike for it because it came out when MV was disbanding. No offense to ATDI fans, but I wish it was the MV lineup that was reuniting, especially if it was with Jon on drums.
@xenophobicalien557111 жыл бұрын
I like his drumming here. It works for the band, for the overall sound. I don't want him to just patently regurgitate what he did with KUDU or TMV. Overall I think the band is good. I'm just not sure if it's to my personal taste or not yet. But, I have to admit, after a second listen I've started to notice a lot of subtle layering. So, maybe I'll give it some time before I render a verdict on it.

However, a lot of what's going on here was foreshadowed in Noctourniquet. It may just be because BR is basically half the Noctorniquet lineup with Teri on vocals instead of Ced. It's more raw than the later Volta stuff - sort of late-era TMV style experimentation in a stripped down format. Very punk-meets-new wave-meets-krautrock sounding. The more I listen the more I like. It's a grower for sure.

I'm withholding judgement on this band. It's difficult for me not to compare what Omar is doing here with what he did in The Mars Volta. It's not bad, but it is most definitely NOT TMV. Good? Maybe, but I believe that anything Omar or Cedric do from here on out will always be overshadowed by what they did in ATDI and TMV. It's what I call the Sistine Chapel effect. Everything Michelangelo ever created, no matter how brilliant, will always be overshadowed by his masterwork. Same here, I think.

+findthearth well you do know the Bosnian rainbows are a completely different set of band that Omar got with. This isn't with the original. Honestly though, after TMV came out with Noctourniquet were any of you surprised that they broke up? That album was godawful. I'm a diehard Volta fan, but to be completely honest, the last real volta record for me was Bedlam. After that, they stopped writing music no one else could write. I was heartbroken but relieved that they stopped when they did, I couldn't have handled another Noctourniquet.
