50TH ANNIVERSARY OF PINK FLOYD‘S ‘THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON’. OUT MARCH 24
Announcing the release of Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ as a deluxe box set to celebrate 50 years since the release of one of the best-selling albums of all time. Newly remastered, the box set will be released on 24th March 2023.
One of the most iconic and influential albums ever, Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ continues to find new audiences globally. The album was partly developed during live performances, and the band premiered an early version of the suite at London’s Rainbow Theatre several months before recording began. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in the US on 1 March and then in the UK on 16th March 1973. The new material was recorded in 1972 and 1973 at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road studios) in London. The iconic sleeve, which depicts a prism spectrum, was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and drawn by George Hardie. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ has sold over 50 million copies worldwide.
The new deluxe box set includes CD and gatefold vinyl of the new 2023 remastered studio album and Blu-Ray + DVD audio featuring the original 5.1 mix and remastered stereo versions. The set also includes additional new Blu-ray disc of Atmos mix plus CD and LP of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon - Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974’. For full details see listing below.

@Mark Petersen Well done youngster. Finding proper music in amongst the crap we're surrounded with these days can be difficult. I hope this comes to mean as much to you as does for a couple of generations before you. I knew my kids were growing up well when they started listening to PF......and now their own kids are listening to it too.

I am 66 and go to the local Senior Center every day. Nobody knows about this wonder. My close in age siblings passed from ALS. My husband was born in 1972 and loves Ozzy but never heard this album through. I am lonely with this wonderful memory. This album is quite profound, especially to the suffering.

I'm 53 and started really listening to Floyd around your same age because the Wall was super popular at the time. You will find as you get older the meaning to this album changes for you. It will also get you though some of the hard times of you life. Good luck and Cheers to your journey my friend.

At last an official version on KZbin with no interruptions between songs, this is the proper way to listen to this masterpiece. Edit: Reading some of the comments saying that listening to it on youtube is not the proper way, I want to clarify that I have it on vinyl and I have a great turntable and audio equipment. For me that's the best way to listen to it... but what I meant is that it should be listened to without interruptions.

I was 11 years old when this album came out and my older sister was 14 (RIP). She always had the cool albums and she had this album first. I remember going to Sears store in 1977 and picking up this album for myself after hearing it. From what I can remember, it never left my turntable. I played it and played it. It was life-changing for me. All these years later at 61 years old with terminal cancer I still listen to this album all the time and all of Pink Floyd’s collection. It’s been my favorite band forever.

In 1973, my neighbor came running across the street and started beating on my window, he said you have got to come hear this...he had an incredible sound system in his room, we darkened the room, one of the greatest and timeless musical experiences I've ever had...this album defies to be tied to any musical decade..
@ikigai47
@ikigai47 5 ай бұрын
That's hilarious. I totally get what you're saying. You're saying this album is the epitome of timeless, and I 100% agree. But at the same time it's easy for me to tie this to a decade. Early 1970s at its finest. It just happens to also be the greatest album of all time. This album is the biggest reason why, for me the greatest era of music was the 60s/70s even though it's slightly before my time and I didn't get to experience the vibe first hand, in real time like you did. The 80s were the most eclectic across the board (from Slayer to Duran Duran), creative and experimental with new music tech, the 90s were an amazing back to basics, less flash more substance time, and then we started falling off with the advent of the internet. Enter the "music should be free" crowd killing the dreams and incentive of countless, actually talented musicians, and replace them with soul-less mouse and keyboard warriors ready to click their way into being a talent, no talent required. Can't sing? NO PROBLEM! Auto-tune. Can't play an instrument? NO PROBLEM! Hit ctrl+I for instrument, then clicky click you're Beethoven! 😂

My dad’s favorite band was Pink Floyd. He passed away about 3 weeks ago. I grew up with the best taste in music thanks to my Daddio. His favorite song was Comfortably Numb, but his favorite lyric was from Time and it says “And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking. Racing around to come up behind you again.” When I turned my dad’s car on for the first time after he passed… guess what the first words I heard out of the speaker were? Exactly those lyrics!! My dad has been sending me so many signs since his passing and most of them involve Pink Floyd. I know he’s rockin’ out in heaven right now. Until I meet you there, Daddio. Shine on, you crazy diamond. 💎

I bet no one will even read this, but this album means so incredibly much to me. I listened to this contantly during 2017, a very transitional peroid in my life. I was lonely, not happy at all, but somehow still hopeful... At the time of writing this, ca 7 years later, I'm genuinely content with my life. I'm not entirely sure it has anthing to do with this album, but somehow I attribute my current situation partly to the impact this album had on me during that difficult time. Thank you for reading :)

As a Sabbath/Zeppelin/Deep Purple rocker kid of the 70's, this is the album opened up my soul. To this day, it is still a life changing experience to listen to it...over, and over...and over again. In fact, my father, an avid Jazz audiophile, asked me to bring this album out to the living room so he could listen to it. After he heard "Great Gig in the Sky", he looked at me and said, "Play that when I die".

This album was released on this day, March 1, 1973 … 51 years ago. I was 18 and about to graduate high school in Iowa. It was life altering, especially the song ‘Time’ … the lyrics, “And then one day you find Ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run You missed the starting gun” This became like a mantra to me. It got me out of the place I was and to what I have become - a better man. Music is a huge part of my life, and this remains one of my top 3 albums.

Pink Floyd really achieved something bigger than themselves with this album. This album is one of mankind's greatest achievements not only in music, but also in art. Not only is it the greatest album of all time, but it is the most perfectly crafted album. Having topics and messages that ring truer than ever. Happy 50th Anniversary to this extraordinary album and piece of art that shall stand the test of time for many years to come.

I'm really sure everyone know better about Dark Side album art more than who they are. Before i listen to them, i never heard David Gilmour, Roger Waters, or anyone else in the band but i'm sure i saw that cover somewhere.

In 1976, I used this beautiful album to teach English, as a substitute teacher, to a 7th grade class in Narsaq, Greenland. When they asked about "Great Gig in the Sky" I said it was communication beyond language. Some of them seemed to understand. They were great. So was and is the music. Thank you forever, Pink Floyd from my Heart.........

I was in my last year in High School when I got this album here in South Africa and still enjoy this good shit. I'm 68 now and still love listening to it when I go for a ride on my 600 Honda thumper down the east coast of South Africa. Our winters are like most countries' summer. Pink Floyd is awesome.....

This album came out during my first year in college. The effects of the Vietnam War were everywhere. I fell into the drug scene and dropped out of college disillusioned. Three years later, I met the girl who would save my life. We will celebrate our 47th anniversary in a few days. This music brings tears to my eyes as it transports me back to a time when my world turned upside down.

I didn't get verklempt until the very end. Still remember how blown away I was by this album when I first heard it back in, oh, '73? I'd never heard anything like it. Still haven't, really. Love the comment from that 13 year old kid. Have heard comments like that before from young folk who think the music being produced today sux and that they wish they could've been around when things like Dark Side were first being created. I'm glad I was.

This album repeats in history as society repeats history (Vietnam = Afghanistan, etc.) and being one who scored well in both “American & World History” I feel we are seeing the first steps to repeating it again, WW3 but here in America due to so many let over our Southern border. Unless something is done soon, I feel a financial crash come Jan - March 2024 which will be noted as the starting point.

@@richardburtonjr1889 Financial crash: aren't we IN IT! My groceries are up almost 40% with less food. I'm not going hungry, kids are grown and contributing to society but so many are going hungry! Will it get worse? Is that your thought? There will be war in Britian first and then America is my guess. Our Govt is selling us.
