At last an official version on KZbin with no interruptions between songs, this is the proper way to listen to this masterpiece. Edit: Reading some of the comments saying that listening to it on youtube is not the proper way, I want to clarify that I have it on vinyl and I have a great turntable and audio equipment. For me that's the best way to listen to it... but what I meant is that it should be listened to without interruptions.

I was 11 years old when this album came out and my older sister was 14 (RIP). She always had the cool albums and she had this album first. I remember going to Sears store in 1977 and picking up this album for myself after hearing it. From what I can remember, it never left my turntable. I played it and played it. It was life-changing for me. All these years later at 61 years old with terminal cancer I still listen to this album all the time and all of Pink Floyd’s collection. It’s been my favorite band forever.

In 1973, my neighbor came running across the street and started beating on my window, he said you have got to come hear this...he had an incredible sound system in his room, we darkened the room, one of the greatest and timeless musical experiences I've ever had...this album defies to be tied to any musical decade..
@ikigai47 Жыл бұрын
That's hilarious. I totally get what you're saying. You're saying this album is the epitome of timeless, and I 100% agree. But at the same time it's easy for me to tie this to a decade. Early 1970s at its finest. It just happens to also be the greatest album of all time. This album is the biggest reason why, for me the greatest era of music was the 60s/70s even though it's slightly before my time and I didn't get to experience the vibe first hand, in real time like you did. The 80s were the most eclectic across the board (from Slayer to Duran Duran), creative and experimental with new music tech, the 90s were an amazing back to basics, less flash more substance time, and then we started falling off with the advent of the internet. Enter the "music should be free" crowd killing the dreams and incentive of countless, actually talented musicians, and replace them with soul-less mouse and keyboard warriors ready to click their way into being a talent, no talent required. Can't sing? NO PROBLEM! Auto-tune. Can't play an instrument? NO PROBLEM! Hit ctrl+I for instrument, then clicky click you're Beethoven! 😂

My Dad passed away on Wednesday February 1, 2023. He was a huge Pink Floyd fan. He had amazing taste in music. From a very young age, I can remember waking up to him playing this album from his bedroom, and then as I got ready for school. I will miss you SO MUCH Pop. My heart is broken. I miss my morning phone call from you...especially your "My son!" after I said hello. You're no longer in pain or suffering. I love you Papasito. Thank you for EVERYTHING! Forever in my ❤️. My dad’s favorite band was Pink Floyd. He passed away about 3 weeks ago. I grew up with the best taste in music thanks to my Daddio. His favorite song was Comfortably Numb, but his favorite lyric was from Time and it says “And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking. Racing around to come up behind you again.” When I turned my dad’s car on for the first time after he passed… guess what the first words I heard out of the speaker were? Exactly those lyrics!! My dad has been sending me so many signs since his passing and most of them involve Pink Floyd. I know he’s rockin’ out in heaven right now. Until I meet you there, Daddio. This album was released on this day, March 1, 1973 … 51 years ago. I was 18 and about to graduate high school in Iowa. It was life altering, especially the song ‘Time’ … the lyrics, “And then one day you find Ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run You missed the starting gun” This became like a mantra to me. It got me out of the place I was and to what I have become - a better man. Music is a huge part of my life, and this remains one of my top 3 albums.

This album is a great masterpiece, a gem that marked rock history in 1973. The sound and music are really amazing and impressive, total perfection. The album explores the philosophical journey of each song from start to finish. The legendary band Pink Floyd did a good teamwork to compose this record. Happy 50th anniversary. 🌘

I was 18 when this album was released - I'm 67 coming up on 68 now - and it's still as powerful now as it was then. I had a cassette tape of it in my car and it remained there for months on end on "auto reverse" I would often listen in my bedroom too, with headphones on and the volume cranked up LOUD. What fabulous memories listening to it now brings back. Simply the greatest album of all time. I have 32 year old daughter and it pleases me that she also enjoys the music from "my time" too. However, the reason I'm posting is this thought - How deep this album is, yet written and performed by guys in their late 20's early 30's AMAZING! Plus the technology and equipment then is not as now, so even more of an achievement considering that. And yes, it will still be the best album of all time in another 50 years. Thank you Pink Floyd.

I'm like you; 'cept. I have a step-son that stole this and a lot of other records from groups and solo singers. Others like original Honkey Chateau by none other than Elton John. I used to listen to Pink Floyd and loved it. Do still; but get MAD when I realize what that whimp did.

As a Sabbath/Zeppelin/Deep Purple rocker kid of the 70's, this is the album opened up my soul. To this day, it is still a life changing experience to listen to it...over, and over...and over again. In fact, my father, an avid Jazz audiophile, asked me to bring this album out to the living room so he could listen to it. After he heard "Great Gig in the Sky", he looked at me and said, "Play that when I die".

Pink Floyd was a game changer for me. When I first heard this album I didn't understand, I liked The Wall etc. But the more I listened I came to love earlier PF 1967-1975, especially this album. Honestly it's the best album ever made

I’ve been listening to this album for 50 years. The musical chemistry and creative genius reached in this masterpiece rivals anything the brilliant Beatles achieved. We are so privileged to have the gift of hearing it.

I bet no one will even read this, but this album means so incredibly much to me. I listened to this contantly during 2017, a very transitional peroid in my life. I was lonely, not happy at all, but somehow still hopeful... At the time of writing this, ca 7 years later, I'm genuinely content with my life. I'm not entirely sure it has anthing to do with this album, but somehow I attribute my current situation partly to the impact this album had on me during that difficult time. Thank you for reading :)

I'm 74, my granddaughter and her two children live with me, what joy I have with all of them. My mom had to work back in the 50's, so my grandparents stepped in and took care of me until I was old enough to be a latch key kid. I have helped both my daughters with their children, and have been blessed so much. I can't imagine any thing better than being with family.

This album has come a long way with me. It played on loop for me all through high school. It was the first music I played for my first son when he was first born. It was the soundtrack to the acid trip that lead to me getting into my most lucrative career path, and then the soundtrack to the trip that showed me I had to leave that company and change fields entirely. I was listening to this today while watching my youngest son playing in the yard, exploring the flowers in the grass. This is what living sounds and feels like. Not existing, living a life full of journeys, and wonderful things, and turmoil, and love, and all of the emotions that make life worth seeing out. It reminds me about all of the things in the world that truly matter and allows me to simply ignore everything that doesn't. Heavy.

@@aymanfayad4171 I used to be an operation manager for a logistics company that I won't name, but the initials are F and E. After a couple years there my psyche had been completely shot, ever rising expectations, no qualifications of success, only failure states. I decided to start building houses, I now make slightly more an hour but lower take home, but that's because I'm no longer working 70-90 hour weeks and my mental stability is significantly improved, I no longer wake up in a bed filled with beer bottles most mornings, so that's at least a few steps the right direction, I'd say. Thanks for the questions and likes, I didn't think anyone would actually read my life story. It means a lot to me.
