History on How this Tool Came About, For Years, I Wanted To Decode Master Padlocks as They can't be Dissembeled. So in 2013 I Mentioned On Lockpicking101, It Would be Cool if Someone could Make a Tool to Decode not Just Master, But Kwikset and Schlage as Well, and a Company That Could Do this, Would Be Lishi(maker of pick/decoders) for auto Wafer Locks. 6 Years Later, Lishi came out with A Revolutionary new Tool, A "Game Changer" their First 3 Were for Master, Schlage, and Kwikset. Coincidence?. Now They Make for MANY Pin Tumbler Locks. Always Wondered if they saw the Post, And then Made Them? This is quite practical for residential locks
@agentvx83205 жыл бұрын
Bill, if you have a six pin cylinder with only five chambers populated, there's obviously no problem using the SC4 pick/decoder. However, there are Schlage residential grade locks with shorter five pin cylinders (generally knob/levers but the BE365 electronic pushbutton deadbolt also). These will not accept the full length of a six pin SC4 key. In that case you could probably still use the SC4 version of this pick/decoder, but the pin position indicators won't be in the right place when the pick is inserted as far as it will go. (Similarly using an SC4 key with the correct bitting in the last five positions will work, but you have to pull the key out slightly from bottomed out so the pins and cuts line up properly.)

If the tailpiece was on the back the sc4 pick wouldn't be able to slide all the way into key way the tip would bottom out at the tailpiece just an fyi. This wouldn't work on a b60n or a f series knob or lever if it was still on a door
@advantagephc5 жыл бұрын
You can use the SC4 tool in the 5 pin F series locks. The tool will not insert all the way which presents two problems. One - the spacing will be a little wonky - you have to feel around and adjust. Two - if the tool is not fully inserted, all of the tensioning pressure is place on the thinnest portion of the tool which makes it much more susceptible to bending or breaking. On a lock with no spool pins, your pressure will be much lower. Stress on the tool is higher when you are trying to overcome a difficult spool pin. So, while it is possible, I have purchased both lengths for both myself and my technician.

So after I built my first lock picking set I poped my master 140 about 20 times . Then I picked the quickset locks on my doors and found an issue with standard presentation of picking . After I picked it I could turn the core freely but the door would not unlock . So after further testing I had to make a knife to turn something deep in the core to release it so . IMHO I would ask you pick an active lock to test these issues in real life situation I think its much harder than presented .

Definitely going to buy the Schlage version for my locksmith business. The "SC4" longer version would work for a six pin cylinder that is coded for either 5 or 6 pins. But I don't see how it would work in residential Schlage five cylinder that do not allow for 6 pins, unless it is shimmed so that the tool is held back .156 of an inch (the spacing between Schlage pin chambers). Should be easy enough to make a DIY shim.
@agentvx83205 жыл бұрын
I doubt it's really that big of a deal if the pin position indicators are off a little because the SC4 pick is inserted all the way to the back of a 5 pin cylinder.
@mikrobspen5 жыл бұрын
@@agentvx8320 The tool is in the right position when the shoulder makes contact with the lock. If the longer blade hits the back of the shorter cylinder, then the shoulder can't make contact & the spacing is wrong (same as a trying to use a six pin key in a 5 pin cylinder).

My front door is master key capable when the houses in my neighborhood were built. Every 3rd house was master keyed alike. A lot of my neighbors didn't trust this and changed the locks out. I was wondering if all locks, say sargent or yale, use an exact number for the cut depth? My key is old and may can be recut by the depth measurements of each layer. Sargent is 5. Best is 6 on my house. I had a binding car key that worked great on one side. I was able to take the good side and cut a new key that doesn't bind.

Thank you for this video. My SC1 key has a pin spacing of 0.156" and the number 73272 printed on it. I measured the distance from the bottom of the key and on the key starting from the front of the key - first - 0.306", second - 0.23", third - 0.305", fourth - 0.288", fifth - 0.228, first, sixth - 0.328". Looks like I need six (or maybe five ) bottom pins and a few top pins. Can you determine the exact pin sizes from this data? I bought a door with a lock for my new porch and want to redo the lock so that it can be opened with my front door key. I hypothesize that my key has only 5 pins and these pins are 73272. What would be the pin's sizing and diameter corresponding to these numbers 2, 3 & 7? Also, how can I find out if the top pins are the same?

It is conceivable that a 6-pin pick or key in a short 5-pin lock could protrude enough to interfere with the inner workings, or to prevent the pick's shoulder from getting into the engaged position. So it might be useful to put both lengths into your tool kit.
@agentvx83205 жыл бұрын
@@douggwyn9656 It's not actually important for the shoulder to touch the face of the lock though? Unless we're talking about ordinary keys and end users who don't understand how locks work.
