This is not surprising. The math works. This is no lucky combination. They knew exactly what they needed to do and the flow rate limit of those heads. Right cams, intake, exhaust and tuning and it's there. Nice work.

Those 290's are usually running stock heads that flow at best 268cfm. These are at 315. These heads are as good as they get.

Stock bottom (powder sintered rods, cast pistons) with 9.5:1 cams and head work being the main changes and 500hp from a 331cu. Bloody good outcome. This combination but with stock heads runs 11.8s in a full weight BA.

Not at all for a stock bottom end with minimal work elsewise.It's making over 500 at the flywheel for sure.
