I really liked how informative you are Andrew on the operation of a log splitter I often don’t read directions when I operate things.

I have the same one. Your little shim just saved me time! I was rushing to get the next log on to save that time. Why didn’t I think of that!

I’m glad it helped. I try to cut up a few of them if I’m going to be splitting for a couple hours. Trying to think of something more permanent to mount there vs a small log.

Good video. I got this same splitter and I'm gonna use it tomorrow for the first time. I live in south Texas, so I don't have to deal with the cold temps you do. Looks like I got a decent one. I'm subbing. keep the vids coming!

I see what you mean about the xtra piece before the pusher to make the trip go father through the wedge. Can’t uou put a log BEHIND the pusher to reduce the return travel? Thanks
@doubleahomestead7794 Жыл бұрын
You might be able to put something to stop the back travel however that won’t get rid of the need for the small log to fill the gap. I’ve learned To operate the handle with me knee while I use both hands on the logs. Complacency in this case though would lead to some fingers missing so have to be alert at all times. I’m going to try to think of something to attach permanently to the front to get rid of the small logs I need. Do you have the same splitter or just noticed from the video?

@@rottiejakeluke I certainly appreciate the feedback. If you are considering this model, I’d buy it again if that helps. I think I’m up to around 6 cords split this year on it. I did have a few wet pieces that had some bad knots that wouldn’t split in the spring but I was able to split them about a month back once it dried out a little bit. I can’t fault the splitter for that being it’s just a smaller electric.
@rottiejakeluke Жыл бұрын
@@doubleahomestead7794 i very strongly considering it. I currently have an hydraulic one, the big I-bean gas motor style. But getting old now (just turned 77 today) I’m tired of having to lug it around.. i, minutes ago noticed a very similar unit made in the UK. It’s called Titan-Pro. Three year warranty, built in stage stops and can get with a 4way splitter, too. Don’t know if they will ship. I’m going to send them an email now.
@doubleahomestead7794 Жыл бұрын
@@rottiejakeluke if it’s around 7 ton capacity my only concern would be it’s ability to split any decent logs with a 4 way. 7 Ton will get the job done but is lacking for any serious work. Let me know if you end up buying it though and If you like it.

Most of my rounds are at the biggest 16 inch or under and cut in 15 inch in length. So I’m splitting 80 percent 12 inches by a length of 15 inches. Mostly oak and ash. I use about 3 cords per year. Speed is not a factor. I was looking at the 10 ton model, but have seen a lot of people using the 7 ton. What do you think?
@doubleahomestead77943 ай бұрын
@@DanielL-ty6pf this thing hasn’t let me down. It’s only stopped on me on a few logs but they had nasty knots. Come back to them a month later and they split. Think I’ve ran about 6 cord through it.

Did you splitter leak a little bit of oil the first time you used it where the hydraulic pole goes into?
@doubleahomestead7794Ай бұрын
@@ignaciorivas4712 I do not believe so. Did you crack open the breather which is that butterfly nut I believe. That could cause excess pressure.

@@ignaciorivas4712 that is possible. To be honest I split enough wood in the summer of 23 I haven’t split any since. We heat only with wood. I’ll have to break it out again in the spring of 25. But I do not recall it leaking any fluid. My apologies I cannot be of more help

how does the shim follow the ram back? is it attached some way?
@doubleahomestead77943 күн бұрын
@@dwightjames7900 in reference to the small log that’s on there. The wood is soft enough that the teeth bite into the log so when it does come back it’s attached to the “teeth” I didn’t have to split wood in 2024 luckily. But will be again this spring and I’m going to try to come up with a permanent solution to that problem.

Just install a locking collar on one of the cylinder rods so the ram doesn't came back allthe way. You can adjust it where ever you want it.

How is it in green ash?
@doubleahomestead7794Ай бұрын
@@captainpegs07 all of the Ash trees in Michigan are dead from the emerald ash borer many years ago. The ash trees are now to a point a few fall over every year in a wind storm. Got some big ones I’m waiting to fall. Works good on that wood but I can’t give feedback on a live healthy ash tree sorry. I’ve ran a lot of green wood through though and it did great.
