This is cool! I think the ds-2 sounds a bit less aggressive and more refined than the ds-1 but the ds-1 still really does a great job at creating a raw, gritty rock guitar sound.

Kurt eventually abandoned his Boss pedals. By In Utero he was using the Sansamp exclusively. Its the sound of the song You know your right. Which i feel was his best sound as well.

No he used a boss hm3 hyper metal pedal with a Marshall 2x12. Totally not what Kurt was used to using but it hit hard asf. He showed up to the studio with no gear, the only thing familiar was the univox guitar used

You're semi accurate on the In Utero session. Kurt used a Sansamp pedal, But a Fender Quad - Reverb amp. It's also rumored by Steve that Kurt used a Randall amp, but tbh it doesn't really sound like it

Getting that particular tone may be tough... Kurt Cobain actually recorded that track four different ways on four different amps and combined the four to get what we hear in the song drain you.

Kurt actually hated this tone later in his career. Which is why he switched over to the Sansamp exclusively when recording In Utero ,as told by Steve Albini. Albini said Kurt hooked up his live rig and said I can't believe it I have been playing this shitty sounding rig all this time. This was after dialing in the Sansamp and listening to it. Kurt never looked back. The Sansamp is the sound of You know your right,which was the sound he was always looking for apparently.

Any distortion pedal will do. From subtle overdrive to harsh distortion sounds. Easy to emulate most anything. Get a hard distortion pedal and an overdrive. Your tones are covered.
