@@gastonpossel imo boss is very good sound-wise, and gt1000 core has similar size to hx stomp but has the same number of blocks as the larger boss gt1000 with a foot pedal. if you don't mind the user interface (it is bi-colored), then gt1000 core is really good. I use the pc software to make patches and don't make much changes in the multifx.

Went to my local guitar centre to buy the Helix, I left the guitar centre owning the Boss GT 1000. That was two years ago & still no regrets. Dagan makes a great point, none of these units are bad, however, they each suit a specific user. Me I am a 62 year old player who needs his gear to, "just work," if you know what I mean. Really competitive features from all, but one thing that wasn't mentioned: The BOSS stuff is built like a tank. You don't have to worry about it getting broken at a bar gig. That's actually a really important point considering how expensive this stuff is.

the distributor of Helix told me that there's a lot of hardware issues on Helix and thats the reason they discontinued selling it in the PHL. You've heard the issues from POD XT HD products of Line 6 and well i guess it continues up to the Helix line. Now i am using Boss GT-1000 instead. and yes i owned ME-7 GT-100 and up until now it doesnt have any issues. Built like a tank indeed!

All 3 sound great. Don't worry about which sounds thinner, or has more thump. Remember that these can all be tweaked with different mics, cabs, eq's and such. You want to listen to the characteristics of the sound. Do the notes die off naturally? What frequency does the distortion really hit? I loved the Boss and Helix. The headrush sounded great, but a little sterile. But another huge selling point is versatility and connectivity. In this category, the Helix is the Mac Daddy. Totally both the Helix and Boss were neck and neck back and forth depending on the sound

Currently owning both a Helix Rack and a Headrush this video bears out my experience. Helix is king for versatility and selection. But the Headrush actually has better quality amp modelling and overall has a more pleasing high fidelity sound.

Your comment is actually helping me down the road to a decision about which one to buy- I don’t need it to do a million things and switch super well- I will likely be more a “set it and forget it” player, so I care about the tone. I hate most effects and just want a good blues rock tone without lugging an amp around and a good tube tone without playing so loudly that my wife leaves me.

The Boss user interface is definitely the least user friendly, but I forced myself to learn it because everytime I switched to a Helix, I just never felt the tones were as close to the original pedals as the Boss is. Plus, the Boss has some features the others just don’t do as well for my needs. Such as the ability to use the chain split blocks to send different frequencies down different paths (ie, send low frequencies to one amp chain, and high frequencies to a different amp chain), or sending light attack picks down one chain, and heavy attack picks down a different chain. That’s super useful, and the GT1000 does it best in my opinion. Plus, almost every Boss pedal made is in the GT1000, and they sound amazing. But I wish they would update their UI to be more user friendly like the Helix and Headrush are.

GT for the win. Own the GT and Helix. GT usually wins out for tone and feel and gets picked first. Helix comes into play only if I can't get the amp tone I'm looking for with the GT. Also GT switches patches very seamlessly. Also not a fan of the L6 attached expression pedal. Actually prefer the LT version expression pedal.

For me, my Helix has become my main rig. I’m an absolute junkie for versatility and it ticks every single box for me. I own a Blackstar Series One which is great but when I need to go to a gig anywhere, I can never justify lugging a 2x12 combo when I can just chuck this in a bag with a couple of XLR cables and know I have every single base covered. Haven’t tried the boss or the headrush but from what I see here it is probably personal preference between them all. Anyone that thinks modellers aren’t the real deal need to stop living in the ‘00s and join the real world. Sure a vintage amp may be that 1 or 2% better, but no working musician can justify £1-2k per amp when you can just buy a modeller and have everything sorted. Audiences cannot tell the difference.

IMHO besides convenience and sound I believe the units are pitched towards quite clear audiences: Headrush probably best for non tech savvy and beginners, Boss aimed at guitarists who know what they want and don't really need exact replicas for modeling but good feel and vibes, as well as excellent fx complement for their existing amps, while Helix can potentially serve a whole band with its wealth of routing and customization options that go well beyond just guitar in focus. So if you don't wanna get deep Headrush, if you're guitar-centric Boss, if you're band-centric Helix. Easy.

@@craigohlgren6875 at the time. The Headrush has more volume hands down. I believe for the Helix to shine is to get a Seymour Duncan power stage and a unpowered cab or Maybe the line 6 powered cabinet. I want to get into the variax guitars, but the volume must be greater from the Helix. Programming is harder on the Helix. The GT1000 is the workhorse when your Space is limited and sounds good especially with the Boss Tone Library app which I can get sounds from Steve Lukather, Vai, Jack Thamarrat and others for free and the Acoustic sounds are cool when you need that sound......

Tbf, I have a vocoloco which you can pick up for around £400 which has phantom power, pre amp and eq which is built to transfer mic lines into instrument lines. Getting the headrush or the helix Lt and the voco loco would still be cheaper than the full spec helix. Just another pedal. But if you're planning on using the send I/I'd you'd have more pedals floating around anyway.

The selling point for me re the Boss GT-1000 is the size. It's not as big as the other two. Most places I play have very limited space on stage and I try to limit my pedals so I have more room. Also, over a decade ago I have used a GT-6 and it has been incredibly reliable. That's another selling point.

I had a guy burst into our practice room while connecting the GTK to my Mesa TC50 via 4CM. It distracted me enough so that I connected one of the speaker outputs instead of the loop send to the GTK. I tried to play something and an insane squeel filled the room. I could not figure out what was wrong, I finally discovered the error and prayed to God I didn't blow the amp or the GTK... well everything works just fine although a speaker output signal went directly into the GTK's fine circuitry. Could very well be a testament to BOSSes quality.... Oh and the sounds are insane and the BT app thingy is just really awesome...

I don't own any but I plan to acquire one soon ;-)! On this shootout, no big differences in clear sound, but a huge difference in saturated or crunch sound... Listening to Marshall or Mesa type sound, for me, there's no doubt : the GT1000 wins ! You get the sound compression of a full Marshall! The Headrush is really flat I think, the Helix may be interesting (the AC30 sound is not bad, maybe more biting than the sound of the GT1000). An important point: the long term... It may be naive, but I would trust Boss more for the long term software support and general reliability. From what I've read, the Headrush seems to have a low reliability...

I can’t comment on the others personally, but I’ve owned a Helix Floor since they were released and it’s a fantastic bit of kit! The extra inputs and 4 bus architecture make it an ideal studio tool, so I have the aux ins/outs hooked up to my patchbay, giving me access to all the HX FX for my synths, along being able to record 4 independant tracks into my DAW! The Fender Princeton model that was released with the recent 3.0 firmware is just bloody gorgeous! To be fair... If I had the money, I’d buy the other 2 anorl, the Boss has a lovely warmth to it🤘

sound is subjective and they all sounded good. and you can only tell the difference if all you do all day is compare them. so in terms of functionality, the boss gt series' "assigns" is the best feature where you can set multiple functions on one switch, multiple functions on the other, and so on, all within a patch.

I use helix native and headrush and amp modeling is definitely better on headrush. Helix has more effects and love the new sustain fx. Also headrush doesn't have acoustic simulator. So both is good. For actual playing i love the headrush ease..Its is more user friendly than helix which is also very easy to use.

Boss sounds best. I got one and I love it. I'd just like them to work out some kinks in the UI in future updates. And my one criticism with EVERY modeller there is, is that the Big Muff emulation sounds totally wrong at low gain settings. I use my real big muff at about 20% on the sustain knob. It's crunch without full on fuzz and it's awesome. But on every digital model I've tried, it's just inaccurate. The Boss may offer the best one, but the low end is still weirdly dissonant if you have the gain below 50 on the muff fuzz.
@judgegroovyman
@judgegroovyman 2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah I never thought about that but you are right. They probably think that we want low volume fuzz but really we want it to emulate the pedal to get the great tones that we got irl. are there any simulated overdrives that have a similar sound to that low sustain big muff?

I love the Headrush prime, I always practice along with backing tracks and it sounds so good in the mix, it really makes me a more creative player. I’ve had helix lt for about 5yrs now. While I can surely get great tones out of it, there was something that was lacking. I guess I just dealt with it. Until I got the Mx5 and then started comparing the two over a period of about a year and a half switching back and forth between the two and strangely enough I always ended playing the mx5 more than the helix, it just always seemed more organic. It made me want to play more it just feels right. Plus the looper allows me to create a clean backing, back out and choose a beautiful lead sound to jam along with. I’m very happy with it so much that I sold the helix. Just my two cents.

with capabities of chaining by each device, it seems that the best way: might be owning all three and using side chaining like the old days of slave functions and it would not be hard to choose the best of the best from each unit, cost of combining all three might actually be cost worthy, and would depend on each artist's desire to dish out the coin and sacrifice pays in: as long as one stays true to the heart

Owned a Helix and I also own a couple fender amps a Marshall JCM and a plexi and a vox AC-30. Found that, as evident here the models from the helix are all very thin and lacking low end. Sure you can add it in but model should be there out of the box. I just couldn’t get the tone out of it I was looking for and sold it. Thinking of trying a GT-1000. I like the tones it produces but that is yet to be seen live. I have also heard that the boss has less latency of all three which makes it feel more responsive too which is big
