It’s actually a perfect 2 channel solution. When you dial in your EQ on say the green channel and set it, you can then switch over to red and set that channel, the pedal stores the last setting of each channel. It will only change if you make the change, then it stores that setting.

With the tasty drive tones and 2-channel setup, I'm wondering if I'll even need a drive pedal. A tuner, compressor, and the IR-2 could be enough.

Kind of a strange signal path you have there to demo this pedal. I wouldn't think many people would go: Guitar- IR-2 -powered PA - 4x12 cab. On stage I think most would be going to the PA and then to a full range speaker system (monitors and mains) not just to guitar speakers. Alternatively going: guitar - IR-2 - effects return of a guitar amp and turning off the cab sim (I'm assuming the pedal does that) would be a way to get very different "amp" sounds out of an actual amp and is something a few people do with these kinds of amp sim pedals. The other major use I would imagine people would choose to do would be direct recording IR-2 to a recording interface DI input. As to your speaking on the video, a separate mic for that with a switch to turn it off when you are playing would be the best way to get both your speaking and the guitar sound proper. You are audible but it doesn't exactly sound pro the way you are currently doing it.

It’s a salient point. I stopped the video when I saw it. There is no real value to demonstrating a modeller into a guitar cab. Cabs all have their own characteristics, which is precisely why the pedal has Cab IRs. If you are going to achieve cab simulation, you have to have a cab that has no 'colour' of its own, it’s a waste of time. @@bradatherton9369

Cool video and pedal. Enjoyed your playing as well! What would be a cheap way to play live in small venue w/o a PA system. To play it through the tube amp I have seems like would defeat its purpose - would overprint the output with the amp’s response. Cheers!

Many thanks for your work and your great review. Just one thing makes me wonder - reviewing an Amp/Cab simulator and then putting it through a Guitar cabinet to "get a more realistic guitar tone"- isn´t that a bit contradicting the purpose of your review. I mean this thing is meant to simulate an amp and a cabinet. I would have liked to hear the pure sound this thing can make on its own - did you feel it had to be sent through a guitar cabinet to sound good?

You can turn the cab section off, then run the IR 2 into say a Powerstage 200 with a 12” Cannabis Rex speaker cab. This gives you an amp power section with EQ control and the IR 2 provides pre amp EQ and amp tones Makes a great live rig. Then turn on the IR section, plug into your interface or USB into your computer and you have a great sound for recording.

160 mA current draw. Yes, it 'works' with a 9v battery, but will eat through them quickly. Kind of an emergency feature. But on that note, USB-to-9v converters are becoming commonly available, so you can use a USB battery bank and size it according to your needs.

Hi Neil, thanks for your video from Italy! Finally lots of nice clean sounds and really nice playing. I'm considering purchasing the Boss Ir2 and since I would like to keep my Dv Mark C112 speaker (very light) I was thinking of a pedal power amp (e.g. Harley Benton GPA 100). Alternatively, considering a cabinet change, an FRFR, but I don't know which one. Since we have very similar musical tastes and sounds and I also play blues, soul, R'n'B, swing, etc. In your opinion, which of the two could be the most suitable solution? A thousand thanks!

Thanks Neil. Some questions : if you are using the Amp/cab simulation and send the signal back to your cab, that’s basically two cabs in one. How does the pedal sound through monitors ? Is there a possibility to have solely the power amp simulation with IRs, without preamp, so you can run your preamp based rig through the pedal and into front or interface ? That would be the use for me and I find those complete amp simulations a bit underwhelming.

Hi Neil. Very very nice playing and review indeed, thank you. Would have been nice if you elaborated a little on incorporting this into a normal board, ie using it as just another effects pedal rather than an amp/cab simulator. I've had it for a short while and so far have only used it into my amp, which is a solid state pedal platform with rather flat response, albeit it is a bass amp (D-class Warwick Gnome 300W into a Warwick Gnome 10" bass bin, loud and punchy AF). I found that the IR-2 sounds better as is, with the cab simulators on, just as the Boss ME-80 does, for example. It is just another option of sound, with the cabs on or off. I guess all that will depend on the typoe of amplifier it goes into. To come back to my question, I am considering playing the IR with all my other pedals, including 2 or three drives and distortions, choruses, reverbs, delays, wah, Whammy DT etc.. How would you link all that for use into an amplifier? I play mainly double humbucker guitars. Best regards! Ivan

@@neilmorrisonofficial I'm currently looking for some decent Amp Sim that would let me pick good clean tone and high gain drive like 5150 but can't find anything that would fit that criteria. Hype around IR-2 was so huge that my hopes were also high, especially that all competitors gear moved to next level but amp simulations of this pedal reminds old boss or zoom multieffects. It's trendy to go ampless nowadays but I can tell that trend will go away soon IMO.

That's the idea, I guess. It's compact enough to not drag a heavy tube amp.

I don't know if you were going for an "in the room" sound, but the audio was horrible both on your voice and the guitar. It didn't do much to showcase the pedal. Great playing, though!
