I had a great Guitar teacher who told me, musically you can't teach someone good taste, you either have it or don't, and you sir have GREAT TASTE!
@ColonelPaynus4 ай бұрын
I’m a guitar teacher and I would disagree. It takes time to develop your ears. When you first start playing you don’t even really know what you’re hearing. Over time, students learn to discern pitch, rhythm etc. Subtlety is one of the last things to develop. That’s where dynamics and understanding of harmony develop. A sense of “good” guitar tone always seems to come waaay down the line, and is always developing. I’m not saying everyone learns it. Some people play for decades and suck at all those things. But it can definitely be taught and learned.

@@ColonelPaynus Well said and I agree with you, however my statement is referring to ones taste in music composition that attracts the masses, there were many good composers in Bach's time but not like him or Lennon & McCartney, Cole Porter etc. I'm referring to the tasteful guitar melodics that Paul Drew constantly plays, he has great taste.

I had to subscribe for that very flavorful playing !!!!! 😻That took all of 5 seconds. I was already sold on how well Boss has done with this unit and it’s charming to be in a standard Boss pedal format. After 35 years of collecting and trading various bits of heavy equipment, this could not be a better time for this little joy to arrive in my life as well. Oh, come on mum, can’t we have a holiday early and spring for tossing all those amps out of the bedroom?? 🥳🤣

I realize most watchers here are guitar players, but what Paul did to get that bass sound on this pedal (3:52) is amazing. Most bass amp modeler reviews on YT focus on the growl sounds- not for me. This easy tweak on the IR-2 is amazing to get a studio bass sound into a DAW. I have mine ordered as they are selling out here in Ontario like hot cakes. I've watched countless video's on the amp modelling subject....this is THEE best bang for your buck for home recording studio's. No fluffy extra sound effects crammed in to make things more confusing. *Just straight amp/ cab/ slight reverb-DONE . Boss IR-200 would probably be a good fit for the gigging musician for the extra sound effects live. Paul has the best reviews. I want to vom in my mouth when I see guys ONLY pull out a single coil type guitar when they do reviews on any gear . Anyone who does gear reviews should be pulling out a single coil AND a humbucker style guitar OR as Paul does it ... the PRS for this one ( capable of most sounds) Great video. Thanks Paul for taking the time on your reviews .

The thing that turned me off from the IR-200 was the switching latency, making it impracticable for live playing when used as a 2-channel amp. Can you share your impressions regarding the CH SEL latency in the IR-2?
@REP3007 ай бұрын
There is zero latency. I know exactly what you mean. The Iridium also has a dead spot when you switch channels. The IR2 is smooth and instant. Like turning any regular Boss pedal on/off. I have mine set so channel 2 is my solo boost.

While it’s great to go “exploring” with a pedal like this (and i have one) to land on some sounds we like, what would be really helpful is to see how certain tones can be dialled in to emulate specific sounds. For example, a Gary Moore tone, a Jimmy Page , early Peter Green, Mark Knopfler, John Mayer, and so on. The options available here are overwhelming, and while i've seen lots of videos exploring the range of sounds, very few that actually demo how you can get to a particular place, especially with all the cab IR options included in the mix. its a great pedal straight out of the box, though :)

@greyklopstock71559 ай бұрын
My worry with this is that I'm afraid of how it'll play with pedals. Cause I tried the ir200, and I REALLY wanted to like it. I tried it after using an old two notes torpedo cab. Not even the cab m, but the OG cab. And no matter how I set the thing, I just couldn't get it to sound even useable for me with overdrive, fuzz, and compression. The saturation wasn't where I wanted it, it was basically impossible for me to get edge of breakup, and I tried all sorts of different combinations of the stock IRs and third party stuff like York IRs. What I'll say about the IR 200 is that the feature set was incredible and it certainly did clean tones beautifully. However, I just can't exist without edge of breakup and my pushed fuzzy overdrive sounds. THAT'S what I'd want to see. Can you feed this thing, say, a fuzz face, with an odr-1 or a BB type drive, and get edge of breakup with gain variation changing with your volume knob?

I get this is a really cool device, but I used to use a line 6 pod2 15 years ago which I know probably isn’t as refined, but my god it got me 90% of the sound I wanted.

$200.00 & you have all the amps & cabs you could want & it doesn’t weigh 100’s of pounds & ruin your back. Great addition to a pedal board. Now if we can get a pedal that can rap, that would help get more gigs these days.🤷♂️😉

I’m relieved you say that the fx return is placed after the cab sim. This means I can have my looper with drum sounds and even vocals or piano in the fx loop and they won’t be altered by the cab sim. And still I can listen to it with headphones connected to the IR2 👍😊 If not I would have to place the looper after the IR2 and then use a headphone amp / mixer / audiointerface to be able to use headphones. Where did you get the information or did you test for yourself? Could not find anything specific in the manual

Well.......our friend here makes it all look so easy. What occurs to me when considering the IR2 is....CPU in my computer from the plugins I have. EZdrummer3 is essential. Then there are 3 bass amps, half-a-dozen amp sims, a distortion box....I doubt that this is untypical. But it comes with the resident virtual retailer/warehouse offering more stuff than I'd ever want and fills the DAW with unwanted graphics. Big lumps of bytes that take considerable time to load for....absolutely nothing that I want. Re-amping my guitar doesn't interest me one little bit. Since I also have an interface, I could dump all this and use IR2 to replace the lot, record to the DAW without troubling the CPU or the neighbours but I also have a nice little 15 watt tube amp and a very decent Rode mic so I can go that way too......that's the only way to properly wring its neck anyway. F*ck the neighbours, f*ck health and safety, f*ck decibel meters and f*ck the dog, I WILL NOT CALM DOWN! Even so, I'd like to check the clean sounds before wiping out the plug ins. Almost all modellers are heavily slanted towards the gain merchants. We've all seen the KZbin dems where the player doesn't know what a clean sound is and of course manufacturers respond to this but a Plexi or a Fender Twin are wonderful at low volume and an AC30 is a different animal at sociable levels. To be seen.........if IR2 can output anything like that through a Harley Benton 15.......and what happens when you chuck a proper 60s germanium dirt fuzz at it........ Maybe IR2 can cut out big lumps of bytes stolen by sellers to flog stuff and the rotten screen they want me to look at and even create a return of some kind to when we weren't all doing mouse/screen/mouse/screen/click click click so much of the time? That's....interesting! Yes, our friend here makes it look all so easy..........nice! Thanks for explaining quite a complex pedal so simply.

@minkorrh8 ай бұрын
Here's the thing with modellers......it's usually a single chip involved with the processing, and a bunch of code that tells it how to handle the incoming signal. Once you have the details worked out it's all up to making the hardware. These could be $50 and they would still profit. We are truly in the Golden Age of the guiitar, and for $250 it's still a steal. Back in the 80's you could never hope to approach this type of tone for under 7K after you bought amps and associated crap. ......and it's made by BOSS which means you can jump all over it for 20 years and it still works like the day you bought it.

Looks like another homerun from BOSS. It reminds me of the Katana in that I'm confident I could get several good tones right from the front panel and just start playing. The extra versatility beyond that is pretty remarkable at this price point. I wish my Katana 50 had an effects loop. I'd like to try it with a pedalboard amp to push my favorite 4x12. It might sound awesome.
@BlazertronGames9 ай бұрын
A real katana only costs £50 more! Still a nice considering the compact size, though. It is a shame that they don't do an effects loop on the katana 50. I bought a 100 purely for the effects loop, and I only use it on 0.5W mode at like 8 o clock master volume. I wouldn't much preferred the 50, but need an effects loop.
@user-mi4du9rd1j8 ай бұрын
@@BlazertronGames I wouldn't get this first instead of a Katana or similar good amp of that style. But I already have one... and for the price of a good pedal, this thing offers a lot of versatility. I do like the idea of being able to go sit by a creek with a stompbox and earphones and just play. Also bringing a phone or laptop you could record, etc. That right there is kind of a fun selling point. And when you start trying to add FX loops to amps that don't have one, you can spend a couple-three hundred real fast anyway.

@@user-mi4du9rd1j If you're going as far as brining a laptop, there's amp sim vsts that are likely easier to use, and just as good sounding as the pedal. I get what you're saying though, it's a nice idea. I do wish it was a little bit cheaper, though, like £130, instead of £170.
