if you are looking for Boss Katana patches here is the link.
thestudiorats....
The Boss Katana has some surprisingly good overdrive pedal emulations, in this video, I see if the Katana GUV DS pedal can compete with a Friedman BE-OD Pedal. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

Forget about sounding like a Marshall for moment, these are just legitimately great crunch tones. They've got heaps of snarl that you want in a mid to high gain dirty sound.

I do the same thing with the TC Electronic JIMS45. I set the Katana to a good "clean" tone and then add the JIMS45. It works very well as a tone shaper and it works great as the front of the amp, too. In terms of versatility, just plug the JIMS45 into the input into the front of the amp. Sounds great.

I use my Boss Katana Head (100W) as a clean pedal platform. I found that my Boss OD-3 or Maxon OD808 sound much better than the onboard boost options. I'm currently getting almost all my tones with an Abasi Pathos pedal into the front of a clean Katana Head or clean 6505+ head, and it's my current favorite sound. Nice, thanks for the really useful pointers 👍. I found the same ... been struggling to get a proper old school classic heavy rock tone out of it - the crunch, lead and brown sound positions all sound too ice-picky for me, more suited to more modern metal tones IMO. This gives me something to strive for now - it kinda sticks in my throat that I would have to use external pedals with this amp, when it supposedly already has all the internal gubbins on-board to get whatever tone you want out of it. Cheers, love the channel 👍🤘🤘 Edit update : couldn't get anywhere near this, even with totally flat EQs. Tried two high-end guitars with exactly the settings in the video with all the different chain config options and could not get anywhere near the breaking-up tone. One of the guitars has a built-in 20dB pre-amp and I only got close when I engaged that. Still sounded like crap though. Two possible conclusions : 1) I have a dodgy Katana, or that there are some other (obscure ?) settings that I don't have set, but I can't think what or where they might be. 2) the pickups on your PRS are really high-output to get the overdriven tone with those settings. 😪 would've loved for this to have worked ... cheers 👍

@@TheStudioRats cheers for the reply Dave. The problem I was having mostly was that I wasn't getting enough dynamic range on the guitar volume pot. I could set the Katana to give me, across the range of the guitar volume pot, either : 1) clean to mild overdrive (but nowhere near enough) or 2) nice and dirty on the high end, but wouldn't clean up properly, still had residual distortion on the low end. Using your guidance from this video as a base, I found a happy medium, which works fine for me with every guitar I've tried ... it's all about the patch EQ. I set the global EQ flat, patch EQ to GE-10, AMP OUT and bumped the EQ level to around +3dB (adjust to suit). Seems to work great now, just needed to go an extra step from your vid to get there. This gets rid of one of my main bugbears about the Katana, thanks. Cheers, all the best 👍.

I dial in the exact same tones with my amp (katana 100 MK2) and sounds nothing like this. Sounds so cheap..... Either my amp is faulty or i have no idea. Very frustrating

Also the same. No idea how he got such a great tone. Unless, of course, tone is 100% in the fingers.

Thx a lot for the tip 🙏🙏 However I can't save the Booster configuration in the Tone Studio. Anybody knows why? Kind regards

Dude, can you make a Sunn O))) or Sleep tone, if at all possible (on the Katana)?

I’ve tried watching this video and doing a step by step, even using your reverb and delay settings, through an actual 4x12 Marshall cab and my Gibson Les paul, and I’m not getting the roar and sustain you are getting here. I’m wanting to get a replication of my JCM800 (that I am Leary of gigging out anymore) so I don’t have to take it and worry about something happening to it. What the heck am I doing wrong?

I know this is porbably an incredibly stupid question, but which boss katana amp is he using in this video?

Do you have this exact patch by any chance? I tried it with my boss katana mk2 but I just ended up with a clean sound unless I missed something? Thank you !
