Great video guys. I know James talks a lot about tone being in the fingers. I often presume tone is in my head. I know what I want to achieve before I start. I think this video demonstrates this well you know what you want to achieve pre starting. It’s also about knowing the fretboard well which is in your head. Also consider alternative tuning and playing in different positions to achieve a slightly different tone. Overall great work as ever

Hopefully this doesn’t sound like blasphemy; because I loved this song when it came out, but I’m not a fan of Neck Humbucker tone. Don’t get me wrong, this is about as tight and as good of a a neck humbucker tone out there, but the part of this song I like is when he hits that bend, holds it, and flips to the bridge pickup. That my friend, is about as perfect a Les Paul Lead tone there ever was.

I have one problem. I just setup the amp 100 % the same on my Katana. There is too much hissing going on. I have to turn the Noise suppressor all the way to 100 to cancel it out. How aren't you getting that loud hissing sound without NS?
@markgrant13023 жыл бұрын
When do you think we might get an Eddie Van Halen tone. A bunch of guys have done videos on it, but they don't really explain things well. Eddie used a variac to drop the voltage, the katana dies that easily enough but the actual device changes the tone. He used an echoplex but apart from the echo aspect it also gave it a boost almost like a treble boost does. The katana has a phase 90 effect but figuring out the settings is also bit tricky... it's one of the most iconic guitar sounds ever and in a world of katana videos, you do the best ones.

Hi guys. Looking forward to your next video. Thanks for all the excellent content, I've found it really useful. Question for you...I have the Mk1 Katana 100 and a GA-FC. Do you know if there is any way to operate the 'solo switch' on the MK1 for the booster effects? I cannot seem to find anything online for this anywhere! Right now I am using a dodgy 'hack' whereby I have a patch cable joining the send/return on the back of the Katana and have the return boosted in Tone Studio to 125. I then use the 'loop' button the GA FC to get a volume boost for solos but this is clearly not the way to do things! Any ideas or suggestions on how best to do this, or is this a limitation on the older version of the Katana? Many thanks.
@KeithMilner3 жыл бұрын
There is a hack using an expression pedal. You should be able to use BTS and select the ASGN section. Select one of the expression pedals and set the function to "BOOSTER(assign)". Then, underneath that, set the BOOSTER setting to "SOLO SW" and the MIN to "OFF" and the MAX to "ON" (or the other way around if you are perverse). This will use up an expression pedal just to turn on/off Solo setting, but, as you can have up to three connected with a GA-FC, this isn't too bad a compromise. You can use this to control almost any function on any effect.
@christopherelston64193 жыл бұрын
@@KeithMilner thanks for taking the time with your reply. I have seen KZbin videos (including Studio Rats) using a boss exp pedal in the way you describe into one of the GA-FC inputs. I wondered if anyone has experimented to see if this will work with a more simple latching or momentary switch? Really just for simplicity and maybe to save a bit of money as I probably won't make proper use of the expression pedal for volume or wah.
@PHILIPJONES-rx8hs4 ай бұрын
Yer, I tried it with a cheap plastic double switch peavey pedal, when 1st plugged in it would change the bank with 1 switch and the channel with the other so I went into tone studio and changed 1 to switch the reverb on/off and the other to switch the solo on/off. It worked fine!

kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqCac6qYocatoLM at 1:07 you can see what he's using, as far has the what and how it's all mixed together who knows. Bluesbreaker, Showman or Bandmaster and Soldano. This is the closest to the album sound I've seen live, other vids with just a Soldano IMHO never came close to this. Perhaps someone out there knows how he ran that rig, info on the pedals is pretty easy to find: Marshall & Ibanez.
