Worked like a charm! Thanks so much. The AA batteries drain pretty quickly when the unit is being tasked heavily

There is a device called the RipCord that can power the Roland BR boxes straight from a Powder Bank via the power point, not the USB port. The centre pole on the RipCord is + positive and the Boss BR is negative, if you’re thinking of getting the RipCord you can get a lead that reverse the polarity. Just ask the supplier for it.

Great advice! Also, just checked the batter terminals when on USB and no batteries . there is no current flowing back so should be fine to leave alkaline batteries in. Thanks

Enjoyed yes, found useful yes, and many thanks for taking the time to help BR-80 users get more out of their recorders. You have obviously spent some time with this marvel of electronics, and I appreciate the tips.

Great idea! Thx for that... My BR is new and I still don't know to get Reverb into MTR or eBand. I know I have to press Record and COSM and I changed the Reverb to Plate, but I can't hear the Reverb... I must be doing something wrong... Please be so kind to kick me right...

I assume you could also use a regular USB phone charger instead of the external battery?

So is it safe to say i cant use an external battery when usb is switched to storage to transfer files, as it will cause the flickering action and message pop up?

Do you think it will work if I put it in the USB port of my car I use this USB port to charge my phone ?
@Tralornik6 жыл бұрын
I cannot see why not... As long as it is designed to only output 5 volts.

Cant you use a power bank on the original micro br and instead of plugging it into usb like you did on the br 80 , plug the power bank in the original micro br‘s DC plug in ?
@Tralornik9 жыл бұрын
+BOOM BOX Unfortunately that would not work: Most of these power bricks only output 5 volts, but the power requirement for the DC plug is 9 volts. On the other hand, the USB requirement (for the Micro BR-80, and any USB device for that matter) is only 5 volts which is why it works with any power brick that outputs enough milliamps. Problem with the original Micro BR (1st gen, not the BR-80) is that it does not draw power from its USB port... or at least not enough to power the unit. Which is why this only works for the Micro BR-80 (ie: the 2nd generation device).

+Tralornik I found a power bank that supports 9volt power at 2 amps . Heres a link www.amazon.com/XTPower-10000mAh-Recorders-Sensation-Connectors/dp/B00935L44E

+Tralornik So if you use regular or rechargeable batteries on both studios , theyre being starved for power ? How about the 5volt usb trick on br 80 , are you 100% positive that wont starve br 80 for power ? I like your videos on both studios . I bought a original micro br because of the dial knob issue on br 80, i liked the solid bottons on original micro br . Anyway about power consumption ect ect , i would go threw DC plug in to be on safe side with power bricks and make sure its distributing the right output volts and amps to the studios .

+BOOM BOX Good question. They are actually NOT being starved for power because the device would have transformer circuits internally to step up the voltage as needed. Often electronics require less voltage from batteries so as to keep the battery count low (which makes the item more portable), then they internally step up the voltage (which does drain the batteries faster of course). With USB it is similar, which is why I recommend using the 2amp port as opposed to the 1amp port on a powerbrick (if it has both). Most devices are smart enough to handle both 1.6v alkalines and 1.2v NIMH because they are stepping up the voltage as needed. However, it is very important not to give any device more voltage than it requires as that could overload the unit (since they probably only have circuitry to step the voltage up, not down). Some devices are more tolerant than others of course... Lastly, polarity is extremely important of course... wrong polarity can kill a device instantly (again, some devices might handle it, but it is definitely NOT worth taking the chance). Of course, it is possible that Boss never intended the device to draw full power from the USB, but in that case the worst that should happen is that the device shuts off (which in fairness could corrupt the song/card if it was writing). This is why I always state to try this sort of thing at your own risk. However, I have used/tested this setup alot and have never experienced any issue whatsoever. Most important thing is to keep an eye on the battery life and to avoid having the unit die during a recording session as that can corrupt the song or the whole SD card. (Though usually it is just the song). But that power-loss issue can happen with regular batteries (or even the DC plug if it gets knocked out). Which is another reason why I suggest having fully charged rechargeable AAs in the unit even when powering by USB... it is a nice backup power source in a pinch. Hope this clarifies it a bit. Thanks for watching/posting.

+BOOM BOX Yeah, there are many of them, but the cost ($49 for the one you linked) is alot higher than a the $12 unit that I was able to use. Still, it certainly is a valid and safe alternative for those willing to spend the extra cash.

I'm trying to make a buying decision and have some questions, mainly... at mixdown, is there a way to pan tracks and adjust volumes like on a standard mixer. I'm assuming you have to mixdown to an external recorder, unless you are bouncing tracks to another track. So you can select the virtual tracks for all 8 tracks and mixdown to an external recorder, and during mixdown, can you pan tracks L and R and adjust volume for each? Or would a slightly larger unit like the Tascam DR 008ex be better for this?
@Tralornik7 жыл бұрын
You can definitely adjust individual track volume, pan tracks, adjust reverb, etc during playback and mix down. One thing (I think) you cannot do on the BR-80 (but you can on the Micro BR 1st gen) is record both the guitar and internal mic simultaneously. (Though you could split the 1/8" stereo line-in to accommodate it through a cabling solution and then un-couple the stereo tracks, if desired). Also, you cannot apply COSM effects to a track after it is recorded (unlike the Micro BR 1st gen which lets you run it through the effects after recording dry or wet).

@@Tralornik Hey, I know this is an old post but I came across this on a forum posted by a guy called 64Guitars, he says... "To apply effects to a track after recording it, you have to route the track through the insert effects and re-record it. You do that by setting the Effects Insert Mode to the desired track, selecting the desired effect, then bouncing the track to another v-track. For example, let's say you want to record your guitar dry to Tr1v1. To do this, simply switch off the COSM Effects. Or, you could set the Effects Insert Mode to "INPUT". The only difference is that with REC DRY you can monitor your playing with an effect while recording it without the effect. If you don't need to monitor with an effect while recording your guitar, then switching off the COSM Effects is easier. Either way, you record your guitar dry (no effects). Now change the Effects Insert Mode to "TRACK 1". This routes the output of mixer track 1 through the insert effects. Choose the desired effect and press Play to hear it. If you're happy with the sound, select Bounce Mode with the destination Tr1v2, set the counter to 00:00:00-00.0, turn off the rhythm track, and drop all of the track levels to zero except for track 1 (so that the bounce will only include track 1 and not the rest of the tracks). Now arm track 1 and begin recording. The BR will play Tr1v1 through the insert effects and record the result on Tr1v2. When you're finished, don't forget to set the Effects Insert Mode back to "INPUT". That is how it's done on all BRs, including the Micro BR, BR-900CD, and the BR-1600." Have you tried this?
