Good review! Just got the 40w stage last year and it's a great amp! I've used it on stage and it gets the job done with volume and headroom to spare, but it really works best for me at band rehearsals and studio work which is usually where I use it anymore..my old Fender and Marshall amps just can't be beat on stage.

Besides adjusting the volume level it also has a headphone jack when you plug headphones in it shuts the speaker off I don't know why nobody mentions that in these reviews. I love my Nextone amp the editor gives you so many possibilities.

Thanks for showing the editor side of the amp Brett! These amps really are a blank canvas in a way, and seeing how you were able to affect tone and feel through the editor gave me enough to go on to turn my Stage into something that works for me, getting rid of some of those “harsh” highs and tailoring the gain break up of the low frequencies on the clean setting to my taste. The update has also addressed a few areas that has made the amp way more usable, and will have me picking up the GAFC very soon. Love your work on this channel!

Nice. I’ve had my eye on a Nextone Stage for quite sometime.

Love your work, Brett. You really are the best gear review/demo guy in Australia. You always tell me what I wanna know without lots of pointless waffle. Rock on, mate.

Bought a Nextone Stage back when they came out partly after watching your videos. Never been that happy with the overdrive/distortion but as a clean and edge of breakup amp thats reliable, easy to use it's pretty good. Would love if you could list a few of your favourite patches/settings. As always a pleasure to listen to your playing.

the gear page forum has a dedicated nextone section that is full of advice and tips on how to get the sound you want, especially with tweeking for the overdrive/distortion sounds.

Sounds great! How much of an upgrade would this be from a Roland Blues Cube Hot?

I'll admit these sound very good. The range of options is very impressive and I can understand the appeal to anyone who needs a lightweight rig and doesn't, or can't, use a pedalboard onstage. However there seems to be a distinctive tone to the Boss amp range - a harshness in the upper mid-range that just grates on my ears a bit. In a band mix that might be no problem at all and having used a Katana quite often I suspect I could live with it. The Fender Tonemaster series nails that good core tone but then those amps are more expensive and less versatile. Nice demo as ever Brett. If, God forbid, you get locked down again and get bored a comparison between the 6V6 model on the Nextone versus the Deluxe Tonemaster would be interesting.

Thanks for reviewing the new firmware. I bought the Artist back when they came out, and used it exclusively for about 3 years. A year ago I retuned to a tube amp, but with the current Russian restrictions I needed a non tube amp. After reviewing the latest to the game it came down to The Nextone Stage, and the Quilter Aviator Cub. This video helped the Stage win out and I'm waiting for my Sweetwater delivery.

Brett is the only one so far who has made this amp sound good to my ears.

Sounds good to me, but then I've been using the Boss GT-1 for several years and they sound quite similar. Boss also made a good decision when they opted to make the on-screen interface for their range of amps/multi-fx almost identical... No learning curve going from one product to another. Good demo, Brett.

I swear the screen on my gt1000 and sy1000 look just like my jv1080 but with blue light 🤣. A 90s jv1080 ya know.

Great guide to the new features, thank you. As a Special owner I'm feeling bit left out though! Any idea why the v3 update isn't available for the Special, and any idea if there will be an update for that amp please?

Brett I recently purchased a used Stage 50. I don't now if it is version 1 2 or 3. The manual says power on while holding down the Boost button. If the clean channel light turn on in green you are up to date. If the indicators lights up any other way you can update to version 3. But they warn against performing the update if the amp is already up to date. When I perform this check the clean channel light FLASHES green. I suspect, but I'm not positive, that this means the amp is NOT updated to version 3. Do you have any opinion or advice. Thanks in advance for any help

Good day to All. Can anyone answer my query please . Can a Stage deliver enough clean headroom to cope with a loud drummer in a rehearsal environment or would an Artist be a better option ? Many thanks .

It sounds pretty good but so does the Katana MK2 50, but when I play my Kat, it sounds too small and thin, and very digital. How would you compare this amp next to a Katana 50 MK2 ?

They should do a Boss equivalent of the Orange pedal baby - just the analog class ab power amp, but with Boss' "valve" selection.

This is kind of what I’m looking for but don’t want anything complicated-don’t want to have to hook it up to a computer nor have to do any programming.

I used to be a tube snob until I got a 100w Katana MKII. The tone master amps are great but not as versatile and for that kind of money I’ll buy a tube amp. Tone is subjective, I get it, and I’m pretty particular but the Katana is pretty F’n good for the $$.

Great amp... Complaining it does not sound exactly like the tube amps is like complaining your girlfriend almost looks like Megan Fox but not 100%.

I've always wondered why these nextone AMPS never exploded into the main stream the way I thought they would... everyone raves about them and they sound unbelievable... resistance to the technology perhaps? Idk.. guitarists are strange animals...lol..I am one

I have the katana mk2 50 and I love it .but also find myself playing through my bassbreaker 15 90%of the time w a large home pedalboard that's constantly changing according to what flavor I'm feeling

Cool to finally see an update. Does the solo button apply without GAFC I did not get that. Also can we consider that we can eq effects applied on the boost. I always found that not being able to eq the tone of the effect you apply makes them useless sometimes. Pity they did not consider the tap tempo on the GA-FC. That is the thing that made me not buy the GA-FC. Makes me hope to have the perfect amp for the future. Thanks.
