Create more complex and original drum loops by editing and layering the built in drum patterns of the Boss RC500. This video covers a few of the methods I use but there are many possibilities. Thanks for watching.

Some people suggest that the drums are limited in this unit but I disagree, there is a lot of variation and using this excellent method it becomes virtually limitless! Great discovery, the RC-500 is incredibly versatile
@stompfoot58552 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on that. It could be nice however if Boss provides a future firmware update that would allow, among other things, recording the rhythm pattern to just the left, or right loop channels. That would allow some cool possibilities using this method.

Interesting! There's another RC-500 video that demonstrates how to use an Assign from Pedal 2 (Stop in the above photo) to toggle something like Part 3 (snare) on a kit. Use basic kit for the Verse, add Snare for the chorus. One advantage of that method is it follows the tempo. The method shown here has a fixed tempo. The whole Memory needs to be re-recorded if you want a different tempo. Still - it is a useful item to know. I'm impressed with what can be done with the RC-500. One feature that is missing (show me that I'm wrong) is to customize the actual beat. I'd like to create an Irish shuffle beat with the kick drum. Bump, da, da, bump. bump, da, da, bump. Haven't figured it out yet.

I would like to know when you design a rhythm pattern with the various kids etc., can you have that play on only one track? Or will it by default play on all the tracks?
@linzkirk2 жыл бұрын
Very well put together and probably one of the most creative uses of rythem on the RC-500 I've seen, and I've watched a lot. Would love to see more Vids with other tips. Also what was the external switch set to, start stop rythem?. and have you customised the main foot switches so stop is loop b? also like your channel name and logo, with more videos and this could be a great channel. I've subscribed.
@stompfoot58552 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. I will try to put together another video showing some more methods of creating original drum patterns. The external footswitch is set to undo, and start/stop all. I separated the onboard switches for the two loop channels.

Very inventive indeed! But I'd rather take/create a drum loop I like, set it to the desired tempo and export to the looper from my computer. It really opens up a lot of options arrangement wise. Still good job on expanding the limits of the gear!
@dereksmith11592 жыл бұрын
Also wish this would've been featured on it...I mean they've got set structures for their patterns, how handy it would be to at least be able to use your own samples for the kick/snare/hats etc.

This is very interesting ! I’ve been trying to work a way to have velocity / dynamics on an expression pedal using a drum machine live instead of foot stomping my beats as to free up my foot for more looping ,but other than laptops or portable daws is seems this isn’t possible. as I don’t have an rc 500 yet could I have a solo kick drum / assign tap tempo to a switch /then use a kit with softer dynamics for part A then trigger the B variation with a different dynamically harder hitting kit ?? If so that could be a good compromise and a very useful live stompbox Thanks

Great Video, Stompfoot. Liked that beat and how you enhanced it. Is there a way to have different beats triggered or assigned to the different tracks? So if I have a song with Part A (channel 1) then part B (channel 2), I can have a drum beat for A and a drum beat for B?
@stompfoot58552 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. If I understand the question correctly, then I would say one could operate the unit in single play mode, record part A beat on channel 1, and part B beat to channel 2. As far as I know, there is not an option to keep separate drum patterns for channels 1 and 2 strictly in the Rhythm track. However, you could use different memory banks for parts A & B and assign a different drum pattern for each memory.

Question: (I'm half sick so forgive me here, but I am a regular user of the 500) So you're actually recording the drum parts onto the tracks right? I thought the drum beats always operated separate from the loop (or at least that's how I've ended up with it). Just want to clarify that I couldn't splice together beats like this so they'd operate on their own independently ... like one bar of it that I could then loop different songs over top of the customised beats? I gig with my RC500 once or twice a week and never seen the ability to do anything like this with it, so I'm intrigued! And on a different note, how glitchy have you found your RC500? I've had to (a couple times now) gradually take the volume down and leave it programed far lower than when I got it...every handful of months it seems to have a volume bloom. Have seen a couple other references to this issue online but wondering how prevalent it is. Wicked video though, thanks!!

Yes, I am recording the drum patterns into the tracks. This opens up many possibilities for editing the patterns, changing the sounds, and creating new beats all within the unit. Of course you could import your own drum loops, which would also be placed in the audio tracks. My other video goes into a bit more detail and additional ways of creating original patterns using some simple apps. Thanks for watching.🙂

Thanks for the video, for me the RC30 is more intuitive and easy to play with...this new loopers are another technology, here I cannot find the volume of the drum kit for example, etc...
@Vegadelujan2 жыл бұрын
Maybe just a silly question: would it be possible to access via usb and change the drum kit sounds? I mean, replace the files with your own: snare, cymbal, tom, etc. Thanks for the tutorial, the most complete I've seen!
@stompfoot58552 жыл бұрын
You can connect via USB to a computer and upload your own samples, or drum loops to either of the RC500 empty loop channels. Unfortunately you cannot replace the drum sounds in the rhythm section with your own sounds. This stacking method does let you mix and match drum sounds from different kits into one drum pattern. You can even change the sounds live while recording the pattern to loop, if you want.
@Vegadelujan2 жыл бұрын
@@stompfoot5855 Thank you! I suspected it wouldn't be possible. On the other hand, I understand that the rhythm could go to only one output (a or b), so we could put drum-specific fx on that output. would it be possible? Thank you!

Hi. Thanks for the video. Do you know how to achieve a reggae drum on the RC 500? I know that it is not one of the existing presets. Maybe this kind of approach can get me somewhere.

Enric Canadell fa 1 dia I love this possibility that you show us but I follow all your instructions and there is no way to record one rhythmic base on top of the other. I always delete the previous one and I only keep the new one. Could you tell me what step I am doing wrong for this to happen to me? Thank you very much!

What model foot switch is that and can I connect it to my RC-500 and use one button to start a track and the other button to stop it temporarily then re-start it with the start button button. I want to be able to keep my RC-500 on a stand within easy reach but use a simple foot switch like this on the floor for that purpose. I need to be able to do this with some of the stuff I do like Thats Amore where in the slow parts I need to stop the rhythm track temporarily to let the singer sing without drums (the part that says "when you walk in a dream but you know you're not dreamin' senoree" then re-start the drum track but I do not want the device on the floor, just a foot switch. I have the Boss FS-7 but I prefer the side by side horizontal buttons on this foot switch, not the vertically aligned button (though they are not really "buttons" like the ones on this blue foot switch) on the FS-7. Thanks. P.S. Anyone can answer this if they want.

Hi! What i would REALLY like to know, is wheather on can do your rythm-stacking prcedure with the ASSiGNS, in oder to then have external Footswitch B for turning ON/OFF a Rythm variation as COOL as yours?! BECAUSE, you see, using up BOTH TRACKS, not for Bass, Guitar, Vocals, Verse-Chorous-Separation or realy ANYTHING other than these nice old Rythm-dwellings.... WON´T DO! ;) Thank you for a great vid, cheers^^!

Infuriating. There’s something going on with the way you select tracks and turn on/off the rhythm that allows you to overdub the different drum parts. Can’t really tell what your doing. Like why the hell is your on/off rhythm light flashing before you record?…
