I did him pre-Sen's fortress to get the Kindling Rite, and he was difficult enough - possibly the intended time to fight him is around then?

People have died to Pinwheel. He's really only easy if you rush him and beat him down because of his EMBARRASSINGLY low HP pool, which is generally a bad idea in Dark Souls that the game trains you out of. If anyone gets intimidated by his creepy intro and cautiously hangs back to observe his moves then they'll give him a chance to create clones and find themselves subjected to a barrage of fire magic from multiple directions at once, and it's quite possible that they'll die.

I always thought of this boss as the make or break for Dark Souls players, either you beat the Gargoyles and move on with the rest of the game or find them too difficult and give up the game and go hollow.

Blocking is less entertaining. I know that because I used pussy strats (block and strafe, try to separate the melee guy from the flamethrower, if the other guy breathes fire run away no matter what), and it took a long time of just circling around them and landing 1 or 2 R2s every now and then. Made them a bit easier but it would probably be quite boring to watch.

I SERIOUSLY thought that this fight would have that red dragon from the Undead Burg as the main boss.... Oh how wrong I was. ^w^ The Bell Gargoyles really are a point in the game where you are tested to your limits. You may have a +5 weapon... but are you capable of dealing with two strong enemies at the same time? This reaction video contained quite a few painful deaths (Getting thrown off of the roof) and it's just glorious to see the reactions from others. A very nice compilation video Sniatch ^w^

I've heard how cutting the tails of dragons gives a special weapon, but haven't gotten one from the red dragon yet. I do think I heard it was quite a powerful early game weapon though :p I had access to a black knight sword whilst fighting the Gargoyles, but decided against it since the sword seemed a bit 'too powerful' for my level and experience. I chose to stick to my trust spear so I could learn the game through the 'most common path' one could take :p

This is a gank boss done right. It gives you time to get use to the attacks of one gargoyle, then has you focusing on 2 gargoyles, forcing you to have timing and patience.

I quite strongly dislike this boss, it’s just unbalanced, gives you no time to heal and they can both spam you with attacks at the same time. Shadows of yharnam or abyss watchers are what id call a gank done righy

@@solidsnake7915 It's funny that you use Shadows of Yharnam as an example because they're pretty relentless with their attacks, and it's even worse when those giant snake things appear. Not giving you a lot of time and hit you at the same time are the 2 things that define a gank boss.

The tail mechanic is one of my favorite things about the game. It really rewards you for being more active and focused in your fights, and the weapons are great! Another game I play, The Surge, is very similar. With the final boss, if you cut off it's right arm, you get a much better weapon than you normally do.

I know this is quite late, but "you defeated" is from the original release of Dark Souls, while "victory achieved" is from the remaster.

what I did was so 0iq, I just wear a shield against one gargoyle and when it gets staggered at halfway point signalling the other gargoyle I just toggle to 2 handed claymore and wail on em before the second gargoyle arrives, after that the other gargoyle is pretty much a cakewalk

It's almost painful seeing a few players not utilize their shield. I've only gotten up to Blighttown in Dark Souls but I recall a shield being able to take attacks like the tail. Just couldn't spam the shield use or you run out of endurance... and then you're fucked.

I see that too yea, but on the other hand... a few of these players are actively trying to roll away from the attacks. Almost all of these players seem to be 'first-timers', and by learning how to dodge in the beginning, they'll only get better over time. (Meanwhile I sucked at the 'timing' aspect of parrying and dodging, so I just turtled behind my shield constantly :p )

Voltorn Elda: Yeah, it's probably best they learn how to roll and dodge. I still have trouble with it, but I came from Bloodborne to Dark Souls 1, so I'm a lot more used to quick dodging and more refined hit boxes for attacks. It's interesting being able to change how fast you can roll and balancing it with how much damage you can take, but damn, imagine my confusion when my character started to create mini-earthquakes whenever they rolled.

The Gargoyles are the very definition of a Wake-Up Call Boss- they're FAR harder than either of the two bosses you should have met up to now and you're still at a low enough level that they can kill you fairly easily if you slip up more than once or twice. They also test a new skill- your ability to focus on more than one enemy at once during combat. Even with a +5 weapon they're seriously challenging. The True Dark Souls Begins Here.

See, what you want to do is go through Blighttown and Quelaag's Domain first so that you can come back and just roflstomp these guys. They're still fun when you're that strong too because there are two of them. Because of this, they can still pretty easily stunlock you to death or knock you off the edge if you get cocky.

Having faced this boss last night…..I’m almost….disappointed at them? Or maybe I just wouldn’t make good content. My reaction throughout the entire fight was “mmm ok” when I got hit, “ok that’s right” when I died the first time, and “yup there we go” when I beat them.
