Completely thorn between the sy 200 and the source audio c4. Boss is polyphonic but not stereo and has more sounds. source audio is stereo but monophonic but it builds up like an eurorack so endless creativity. Plus it sounds higher quality
@chrislaarman75323 жыл бұрын
1) You could connect the Boss to a mixer that lets you pan it. 2a) You might end up using several synths. (Like you may have several guitars, or sets of screwdrivers.) 2b) I had just had another look at the Boss SY range, then discarded all but this SY-1, dropped it too while playing this video, then changed my mind and ordered it (along with an FS-6 double pedal), and resumed listening. But I could also use the synth in my Mooer GE300, apart from my MIDI stuff. 3) I have my one acoustic guitar with piezo and my bass guitars equipped with flatwound strings. Glissando (on organ sounds), here I come!
@marcusstrymon6933 жыл бұрын
@@chrislaarman7532 Whats your opinion on the Source audio c4 synth? I am completely blown away by the pedal zones demo of the sy 200. The sounds were all incredibly musically plus the expression you get by morphing between synth pitches is incredible. The sy 200 is defenately the most useful and creative thing i have seen. And his vid wasnt even with reverb and delay pedals after it. The sy series are ambient monsters.
@chrislaarman75323 жыл бұрын
@@marcusstrymon693 I didn't know the C4, so I (partly) watched the demo on their website. Yes, it does appeal. And so do the other SY models. - I think that we (at least Marcus and Chris) should ask ourselves what we'd like to do with a possible addition to our gear. Do we want to use it in our performance or do we want to create great sounds? (Or both, but then we may end up with multiple devices.) Using MIDI with a guitar is an option. The traditional way is through Roland's 13-pin cable and a GR-55 or something compatible. A serious alternative may be the Jamstik Studio guitar, as it has the audio-to-MIDI conversion built in. (I noticed a reviewer complaining about the tracking. It sounds alright with mine, though.) A monophonic option (for even a microphone) may be the Sonuus G2M v3 converter. (I have it ordered.) I'd say that guitarists are not too likely to play long notes (except Carlos Santana), and that consequently complex sounds are likely to pass "unfinished". Whereas pad sounds would have the time to evolve - and you could play these using a MIDI keyboard, even an iPad. (By the way, if you should happen to have an iPad or even iPhone, watch a demo of the GeoShred app. Especially with the pricey in-app purchases.)
@marcusstrymon6933 жыл бұрын
@@chrislaarman7532 I have to disagree, guitars with organ like pedals and a lush reverb, and a delay (like harmonizer delay or reverse delay) sounds outrageously good and gives extreme ammounts of sustain. That is a creative use that blown ones mind. Check out perry franks videos about the sy 1 plus strymon nightsky
@chrislaarman75323 жыл бұрын
@@marcusstrymon693 I think we have a misunderstanding. :-) I didn't say that sustained sounds are impossible on a guitar (I did mention Santana...), but I meant that guitarists tend to play shorter ones (on average). And yes, that Nightsky (your product?) does tease to sustain them. :-)

Really ?? I’ve never heard any at least 75% 12 string sound from any synth or pedal. However, I’m sure with a two amp setup with a excellent compressor and a first rate pitch shifter you could get real close, also a EQ pedal to dial in the 2nd doubled string. Gonna try later.

You can get that from any decent octaver. Zoom G1on has one. You can tweak it to sound like the Rickenbacker 12-string.

Possibly single notes, not really chords. Remember that acoustic or electric 12 strings have all kinds of overtones, drones and pedals can’t possibly pickup all the increased harmonic content etc. Although somebody out there may have mixed up a few EQ and chorus and pitch shift pedals. But to throw 4 or 5 pedals in just to POSSIBLY get a 12 string sound, I don’t know.
