You can link a cable from the "send" to another amp. You can then play over the synth sound when pressing the hold button. Hope this helps.

That is an interesting use case but I don't split this into two amps just yet. I probably should do a direct demo as well as a wet dry demo.

I want to emulate Jazz bass sounds. Do you think this will do it or should I go with EHX Bass9?
@GearSounds
@GearSounds Жыл бұрын
If you wanting to emulate jazz bass sounds I think the EHX would be better for you as this unit is far too expensive for what it does. The SY200 will probably track better and you could definitely customize it more but I'm not sure that it's going to recreate the sounds that you want. If you just want to recreate bass sounds go with the EHX.

Hello, can I use the pitch-shift function on the SY200 to simulate bass without the synth effect? Like a dry signal but in a lower octave?
@GearSounds
@GearSounds Жыл бұрын
Hello, unfortunately no the dry signal is independent and unaltered. The only thing you can do to the dry signal is adjust the volume. There aren't even any effects inside this unit. However what you can do is create your own tones with all the voices inside this pedal, and have them played alongside the dry signal. You can also independently route the dry signal and the synth signal out of the pedal.

You sure the SY series all need a pickup system for simple applications? I thought the Sy series could be used without a pickup system unless you’re using the 1000 for complicated multi string setups?
@GearSounds
@GearSounds Жыл бұрын
No, I would have to say that's technically an incorrect statement as only 2% of the sounds are usable without a pickup. If you plug directly into the SY1000 without the proper pickup you will only have access to about four patches. These are very simple patches and I wouldn't say the sounds are very great. Although those patches do work polyphonically you aren't going to get the best out of the SY1000 without a pickup. Same for the GM 800.
@manifestomode1
@manifestomode1 Жыл бұрын
Thanks I’m about to pick up this unit but I’m hoping I don’t regret it because the Sy-300 seems much better than this unit, but if the 200 can trigger other synths with little to no latency,. I will be fine with the 200. Can you confirm this feature for me with little latency? Or should I wait and save for the Sy-300s extra sound design power? And what ac adapter should I get for the Sy-200? Thanks so much for your help man.
@GearSounds
@GearSounds Жыл бұрын
In my personal opinion the SY300 is an outdated unit. I really believe that using a hex pickup is the best way to get polyphonic tones. To be honest if you were playing single notes you can get away with not having a hex pickup to individually split the strings up. The power supply is a standard nine volt power supply for this but the amperage is higher than sometimes available on some power supplies. No, unfortunately I cannot confirm the ability to trigger other synthesizers. I believe in order to do that you need something like the SY1000 which has a MIDI output.
@boboyamyams
@boboyamyams Жыл бұрын
Do you have the sy300? Im thinking considering I have the boss gx-100 mfx pedal I could probably send through this and achieve everything that that unit has to offer. I want to be able to combine the sounds of that and the sy-200
@GearSounds
@GearSounds Жыл бұрын
I really would not go that route as the SY300 is a completely outdated piece of technology. Yes it is basically a super version of the SY200 but in my mind the SY1000 replaces the SY300. Without individual string tracking on the SY300 You won't be playing beautiful chords that sound as good as the GM 800 or SY1000. I think the SY1000 does everything a synth guitar player would want and the GM 800 does everything a synth guitar player would want also without the option to have real guitar sounds on board. I really do believe the SY300 is outdated but if you do like the SY200 sounds and want to customize them then yes you could use the SY300 into an effect system. However I know a lot of those effects were designed for guitar and not for the full range that the synth has to offer.

@@GearSounds is there a way I can overhaul the presets and do user edits to them on the 1000? I think that most of the presets on it sound kind of crappy
@GearSounds
@GearSounds Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can edit them but if you find ALL the sounds on the sy 1000 to be crappy you won't be able to make anything better. You sure can add reverb and that will help a lot but it won't be a giant game changer. You can do a LOT more editing on the sy1000 than you can on the sy300 @@boboyamyams

@@GearSounds do you think the arp sounds alone are worth it? I’d love to sprinkle some of that during song parts or solos How do you like the pedal now that you’ve had it for a while?
@GearSounds
@GearSounds Жыл бұрын
That really depends on what type of music you play and how much you enjoy the arpeggio sounds with pedals. I recommend you take a look at some of my other demos where I use the SY1 that is the same algorithm. If you enjoy how that sounds it can absolutely be worth the price but you aren't losing access to the other sounds. Surprisingly, despite the fact that I think the arpeggios are the most powerful portion of the unit I end up using just a few sounds as lead tones in practice. I mostly just use a single sound so I want to find a pedal where I can switch between a couple of sounds or just bring those patches closer together. Now that you can find these used I would say it's absolutely worth it, even for just one sound as it's extremely powerful and you can make that sound your own.

Hello! One question, does pressing the pedal increase the gain a lot? Because I bought it and when I turn it on the gain goes up a lot.
@GearSounds
@GearSounds 2 ай бұрын
No pressing the pedal doesn't produce any gain whatsoever. The issue that you're having is that you're probably running this through a guitar amplifier. That is not how a synthesizer is supposed to be run. I wish boss would give better instructions with this but the synthesizer needs to go into what's called a full range speaker. Not even a solid state amplifier is good enough if it's designed just for guitar frequencies, it has to be a keyboard amplifier designed for synthesizer and keyboard frequencies. Plug it into that and you're not going to hear that gain and distortion. The gain and distortion you are hearing is the synthesizer attempting to produce frequencies that the amps itself can't be reproducing. For instance the synthesizer can hit very low and high frequencies and since the amp you're playing it through is a guitar amp, it can't replicate those and when it can't do that it clips and when it clips it sounds like game. That's why you are getting such harsh high end. I hope that helps.

No you can't trigger external synthesizers with this but you can with a new GM 800 and with the SY1000. You really need a hex pickup to do that properly. I think you may be able to convert to MIDI without a hex pickup but I don't know that it would be very good and would only work for single note stuff. Yes I did doing ambient video of this pedal right here. kzbin.infoFcFDYMdKOlk?si=Jy6_s9qwgrVKu_Ov

@@GearSounds thanks for the quick reply and info. Much appreciated. This still looks like it’s worth getting because you could probably totally turn it into soundscapes with good reverb and delay pedals so I will probably still pull a trigger on this and then the GM 800 in the near future because I love synthesizers as much as Guitar, so thanks for the good work and demoing all the sounds. It really helps to pull the trigger on this Little bad boy. But I wonder why they didn’t make it trigger external synthesizers since it’s midi-based and you could trigger the internal sounds with other gear. It doesn’t make sense to me, but maybe they save that type of stuff for the big daddies, and the big mamas,.. Cheers to successful KZbin channel!

Is there a flute and/or piano sound?

Yes there are both and you can even combine them on top of each other, up to four voices. This gives me a great idea for a KZbin short.

Since I didn't turn the pedal off or touch the knobs I felt no need to show any of those changes and it made editing easier and made the video look better but I hope you can see the screen okay. The screen changes are updated but the pedal itself always stayed the same so it's replaced with a higher resolution photo. I hope you don't hate me for that!

@joelpass I'm glad! I hope I earned your subscription with the content! The gm-800 videos are fun too but that's an expensive pedal. It's well worth it in my opinion

Probably the last interesting single pedal out there. This one is very unique and very special sounding. I have Fishman tripple play midi pickup, but this thing dont even need a pickup. It seem to synthesize on the signal that comes straight from the guitar. Thats a must have some day when looking for useless sounds.

Yes, this is the best synth pedal that doesn't need a pickup on earth. I still want to try to use this but now that I have the GM 800 with the hex pickup I find it hard to implement it into my workflow. My main guitar has the pickup so I tend to use the GM 800 now

Is it just me that most of them channels are almost identical?

The patches near each other are meant to sound identical as to arrange them by similar sounds. This makes it easier to remember where your favorite patches are. That being said yes, there are only about 13 voices this can do and many are repeated versions of the same voice with some alterations. I should mention that this massively alters how it performs and this is the reason I demo all of the sounds.

Also.....a musician at this more advanced level of playing will keep within defined musical chords and phrases.......mono playing picks out more detail but essentially a guitarist will find that self defeating Multi tracked drones and effects loop in and out will turn into a more experimental tool.........but this will be a more personal project than a performance based one

I hope you mean that my playing is advanced lol. That being said you can often hear what the intention of the patch is in mono.
