Boss SY-1000 Guitar Synthesiser - Showreel - All Sounds and Effects Created on the Boss SY-1000

The Boss SY1000 Guitar Synthesiser and Modeller is a versatile guitar synthesiser. Unlike the GR range of Guitar Synths it does not use PCM samples and as a result has nearly zero latency and is very expressive.
All of the sounds on this clip are synthesised and modelled to recreate the original instruments. The only thing that isn't synthesised are the drums and piano which are played via pitch to mid through the Boss SY1000

Phenomenal, I go back decades with guitar to MIDI and have never created such amazing pieces of music via my many gadgets spanning as far back as GR300 through to Fishman TriplePlay units, you are obviously a master at this. Thank you 😊

John... I’ve bought 2 new synth pedals, the Meris Enzo and a Source audio C4 .. Both are amazing. The only serious problem, that I’ve found with both, is that you need a Disaster Area Designs midi controller. If not they’re useless . Both pedals have little to no memory, which was a terrible mistake. The Enzo has Dual Function knobs and you can never know what you’ve dialed in. If you don’t have the controller, you can’t save the patches ! The C4 has many settings through their phone app, but you can select many of them without a controller. I also picked up a EHV Mel 9. Tons of fun and sounds great!

This expert use of this machine is miles ahead of any promotion that was done by Roland. I really think that guitarists have no idea of the power under the hood and the fact that you can use it without the GK pickup. Good work.....ps....I love mine.

Wow . . . simply amazing . . . I bet you could do all of Peter Gabriel's " The Last Temptation of Christ" soundtrack with this unit. I had one of these units a while ago and sold it as I thought the synths sounded cheesy but the guitar modeling was very good.

John, you’ve done a brilliant job in this. I found your post on the SY200 video. The SY 300 is better by itself than on the 1000, there are things that can be used on the SY300 that the 1000 won’t let you use. Also, if you want an incredible experience with a Hex pickup, get the VG99 . It makes the 1000 look very lacking...

I’ve had a VG99 since late 2007 and it is amazing, still use it. I had an SY300 for about 6 months but ultimately it can’t handle more sophisticated chords very well at all… The VG99 and the SY1000 can do this really well. The SY1000 is a game changer.

It is not complicated rocket science on the top of engineers rank order so please show educational videos of those settings & the sucsessful software upgrade of Boss Sy 1000 & in my opinion should the version 1,09 should be released & who who knows if Roland make a new Gr something without latency or not... The bad isue thing with Roland GR-55 is to slow in latency & I sometimes hear false tones & over tones to but the opposite is that Roland GR 55 got hughe option of instrument divided or multipled with 2 & that damn thing is mind blowing...🤯🎶 because of many options instruments + a little looper, if it was no isues then it even would be a kind of "portable record studio" & guitar synth for the stages...In a another video some one say that Roland gr 55 has no sequencer (seq) but it got pulsating vortex etc who sounds wery similar to a seqencer...

Great video and demo! Have you used the GK cable or only the 1/4 plug/cord? I have SY-300 and I don´t know if this unit would be any better without the GK? What can you tell about the dynamic synth? Does it bring any cool additional stuff compared with the SY-300? I have also GK capable midi guitar. Can you use both signals simultaneously (GK and normal plug?) Thanks for informative video!!!

I have used the GK cable throughout. It would be better than the SY300 in some respects as you get 3 dynamic synths, more oscillator waveforms, great flexibility chaining and effects a better sequencer and amp models. However without the GK there are several things you can’t access like guitar modelling, the VIO guitar and the OSC synth. GK makes sense of chords much better than the normal input does too.

So the "dynamic synth" is only accessible via GK? I thought it was the best addition compared to SY-300 with the plug/cable? What could you tell and compare main differences with my olet Roland GR-33 that also uses only GK?

@@volvomies1971 No, the dynamic synths are available through the normal input as well as with the SY300, the SY1000 is similar to the SY300 but much more powerful in that regard. The GK pick up gives far greater clarity for chords on the Dynamic Synth. The GR33 is a completely different beast as that is based on PCM samples and has quite a lot of latency triggering those samples. The SY1000 isn't triggering samples, so for the most part (with the exception of the OSC synth) is latency free. So the sounds you hear on this demo are a labour of love to try to recreate instruments using waveforms (Sine, Sawtooth, noise etc). So you have to work with it as a creative tool.

Yes, a lot can be including the Mellotron sounds as they are all dynamic synths so available to a normal pick up. I think the GK pick up will do a better job at bigger chords than a normal pick up would.

is the breath controller the tec bbc2 an amazing bit of kit i've heard... also can it be controlled the synth bit by just a key board and the modeler just by a guitar as the gk3 13pin is prone to cable noise and doesn't last that long.. does boss sell a replacement? 13pin jack as you'd repear most cable faults or is it just the crap gk3 design about time boss/roland got it sorted and i hear the editor lags no end slow as fk maybe they'll get a third party to put one together for them like what happend with the gr-55? Benn jorden does a nice review and rips a niece large strip of flesh off of this device and editor his everything you wanted to know about midi guitar a honest review on the sy-1000 ???????? well worth a watch all edited with no fk fk fk anger quits

Breath controller is an MRT had the TEC bbc2 great bit off kit but you need a midi 5 pin converter for the SY1000. No keyboard control for the SY1000 it’s not that kind of thing. 100% of what it does is based on guitar strings either normal Jack or 13pin. The 13pin allows for modelling guitars and OSC synth, VIO and GR synths. So you loose a lot functionality without the 13pin cables. Cables are ok and most noise can be removed by the noise gate on board. The unit has its faults but for what it is best of its kind on the market. Most people who review it haven’t got the foggiest idea of what it is capable of.

The Duduk and Flute were played on guitar and used an MRT breath controller to control filter cut off and a degree of volume.

GR55 is a different beast, it uses PCM samples so it’s quite different. It won’t do what SY1000 can do.
