Mine barks like mad - drives me nuts - and I love him anyway. Flynn is Sheltie #2 (Sheltie #1, Liam, passed at 14). Smartest dog I have ever seen. He just figures stuff out and he's almost always right. He's also a clown. Just constantly surprising, almost always in a good way. If you want an intelligent, obedient dog that will be a constant companion, and you're willing to put in the time, get a sheltie. If you want a low maintenance dog that will sleep in a corner and occasionally come to you for attention, do not get a sheltie. These guys are true working dogs who need to be engaged.

We have two: Loki a bi-blue and Nova a black and white. They. Are. Amazing. Good with kids. Good inside a camper. Good outside. Intelligent and intent … I’ve owned 5 shelties. My first was from a dog shelter. A military guy was being sent overseas after 9/11 and had to give his dog up. His sad loss was the best thing that’s happened in my life aside from having my two children. I recommend shelties to every single person I meet. They just adapt so well to their environment and owners personalities. I’ve owned goldens, labs, and spaniels and none have impressed me to the point of bragging like my shelties.

Love Shelties. Had one in the 1990's. Told her to stay at the park, walked 300 yards away. She couldn't even see me. She stayed there for like 20 minutes. I called out "OK!" She probably can't see me although I waved. Boom, she takes off to me. I could tell her to stay, walk across the street, and even one time there was a squirrel on my side. No problem, she stayed until a few cars went by between us. "OK" and we continue. Did not need a leash, but always carried one just in case. Very bright and lovable breed. Her name was Angel.

I had a Sheltie.... my heart broke in 2 when he passed at 13 years old. I don't think I can have a dog ever again. You get so emotionally attached that it hurts so much when they go to sleep.
