year is it just me or was that fight (i mean the video here) really bad. Genichiro normally force you to understand the mechanics of the game and make you use propper deflect mikiri and jump. That was just a stupid hit and slash fight.

Genichirio to me had some of the smartest AI I've ever seen. Like how every time you try to heal, he responds immediately with his bow to stop you. That's brilliant.

Owl father has some smart AI as well. He has one of those attacks where he does a overhead smash after a long windup but changes that to midair swing if you dodge too early. Not to mention he's the only boss that can mikiri you and has a special attack if your posture gets broken

If nobody notice it you can clearly see at 2:35 that genichiros combo set is similar to that of the okami warrior woman. What i also want to point out is that he doesn't use any ashina fighting techniques. No ashina cross, no ichjimonji. Ths should give us more of the idea how important tomoe was for genichiros training and how relevant she is (lore wise)!

I died like 50 times to this boss in his first bar, 5 times in his second bar and once in his final. It just clicks. Each of those 50 deaths on his first bar were completely brutal; got completely destroyed and he lost no more than 1/2 hp.

lightning of tomoe isn't hard to beat once you realise its the same except when he jumps out with something in his other hand you jump once he uses it, you get hit, spam attack button in mid air and hit him with it instead of getting one tapped

This boss took me at least a week to beat . Swear to God I got so mad trying to fight him but at the same time because of Genichiro , I learned how to play this game more efficiently. It made me realize that Mikiri Countering is a MUST in every fight & deflect every sword attack & time it right to mess their posture to deliver a death blow. When I finally beat him I was so happy . I got up & got me some food as I saw the cut scene .. then yeah you know what happens next. Little did I know he had a 2nd phase😂

Took me an hour, but thrilled with the result. One of my favorite boss fights in recent memory. Trading blows with Genichiro was a blast. If you approach the fight with calculated aggression, you will succeed. Nothing like landing all of your Mikiri Counters - makes you feel like a god.

That third phase though. And that instant-kill jump that will one-shot 90% of player the first time, and sometimes the second. Most challenging, respectable AND detestable boss EVER. 30 years of gaming in 2019 and I was ONE ROUND away from quitting/uninstalling the game. I'll recall that unexpected 4AM victory forever, after something like 50 tries spread over 3 hours before lol, muscle memory finally served me right and I stopped trying strats and cheese, just rammed his ass in CQC precisely like in this video's 2nd phase hit/parry/hit/parry and it was done. Didn"t even let him room to perform his thunder attacks.

This video actually really helped me to adapt my strategy to fight genichiro. I had just beaten the Lady Butterfly boss by playing extremely cautiously and chipping away at her, which did not work in this fight. Seeing your success through excessive aggression really helped to expand me beat this A-hole... So thanks.

God, the "fight me" between the silence of the end of the cutscene and the start of Genichiro's theme is one of the things that simply sells this fight for me. Is a simples thing, but immersive, feels powerful and just send chills down my spine.

@@marthenmania I find when keeping close to him avoiding his lightning attacks is easier. When he jumps to do his lightning youll be underneath him out of range of the lightning. Have you tried the eel liver and lightning reversal? Keep at it, youll get there.

3:02 oh boi how I struggled reading those perilous attacks.. the shadows of the fighting area makes it confusing whether it's a thrust or a sweep otherwise once you get multiple counters his posture recovers slowly and it gets easier to get the finishers

the thing about the thrust is that a Mikiri counter fucks him up right away. the sweep is really tricky with the Mikiri, but at least you have a second to dash to a fair distance without getting hit.

My fellow shinobis these are few tips about this battle. 1.phase When you try to break his posture very early he will try to attack you with you the bow so if you see him to be far from you..ready your L1 or try to avoid the arrows by side stepping NOT backwards..he always do his thrust attack on the 1 phase after the leap in the air so be ready to counter it..remember to hold the button and the analog pushed front when you do it else you will fail the counter..i would recommend to lv up full the Mikiri counter so you deal more damage to his posture and also use your Ichimonji stance for this battle..try to use it after you counter the thrust.. 2.phase Almost the same but remember that after the leap he can use his thrust attack OR his sweeping attack now so you should beter use the dodge button now instead of trying to counter it and try to find other windows to land the attack. 3.phase Dont be afraid of him press the attack and always try to avoid his special moves from the left..if you want to counter the thunder in order to predict it when you see him that he keeps a distance and the japanese letter appears press immediately the jump button and R1..you will counter the thunder and stun him for a 2 secs so hit him there hard. And most important be patient :)

This boss battle has just now changed my life. Before this boss battle I was struggling to have self confidence in myself. But through my never giving up attitude, and self determination. I beat the boss to completion. Never before have I failed so hard to beat a boss before and eventually succeed doing it. This boss battle showed me that I do have self confidence, and time finally beating this boss battle proved it. This is honestly the best boss battle in the early game. This boss alone improved my skills times 5 of when I first started fighting genikuro. Thank you Fromsoft for changing my life.

I finally managed to beat this dude yesterday, after dying for at least 30 times. Here is my experience for Noobs (Deflect Gods can skip): Make sure you have 7 Gourds, and at least 3 prayer beads necklaces, better to have 4. For some reason, I absolutely suck at doing the Mikiri Counter, I press the Circle button but still get hit each time. Do note that you can even deflect his unblockable thrust attack (though it will push you back). I went aggressive, and used the Battle Axe to do some Posture damage. You can dodge his unblockable hits by either jumping or step movement (Though it takes a lot of practice and observation). The Ichimonji attack works wonders to damage his posture, if timed correctly. Make sure you back up in between and refill your health when needed. I did not get time to take in any Sugar boosts, as the fight was way too intense and fast for me to even think of doing anything else. Feel free to utilize those Ako, Gokan sugars if you need them. Make sure you don't get hit by those flurry of arrows he throws while jumping in the air, that hurts real bad. Repeat this till you reach the Second Phase and try to ensure you have at least 2 Gourds remaining. I actually reached his Second phase (Lightning) four times and died all four times in trying to do random jumping and sword attacks (I was too desperate). But finally I managed to jump the same time he did and deflected the lightning on him twice. This was definitely one heck of a fight. But please do take breaks and level up if necessary before fighting him, otherwise you will have a tough time for sure. My fingers were literally paining by the time I defeated him.

The shadowrush combat art really makes the 1st phase easier. But there are no op moves for the 2nd phase of the fight :'(

@@azsampako2266 after a while I learned to deflect all of his moves to the point where he died with 3/4 of his health. The second phase, you can use mikiri counter and bait out the long thrust. It's very telegraphed and easy to deflect.
