I don't ever leave KZbin comments but this was a really useful video that did not waste any of my time with filler. You explained that so much better than anything I've read, thank you so much!

@@BossonaBudget do you offer services whereas you come in and help non-profits get off the ground?

No, I have a workbook: rebrand.ly/npstartupworkbook and a private community on fundraising.

Good video! I actually already own an LLC that sells an educational service, but I want to found a nonprofit that will help raise money to bring that service to communities that otherwise couldn't afford it, and keep the LLC as a for-profit arm that continues to sell our programs and act as a critical revenue source for the larger non-profit and diversify its revenue pool
@BossonaBudget Жыл бұрын
That’s definitely a possibility. Just be mindful of any potential conflicts of interest.

Hi. I know of a non for profit that does business with a major grocery store chain and pharmeucutical chain. My confusion is how are these companies able to turn a profit twice. One, by the tax write off. Two, by selling the product made by the NFP.
@BossonaBudget5 ай бұрын
Hi, without a lot of details it's hard to say much. Nonprofits are allowed to earn money but again without knowing much it's hard to say if something fishy is about that arrangement.
@keepsit100atalltime95 ай бұрын
@@BossonaBudget Thanks for responding. I was referring to the grocery store chain and pharmaceutical company. The NFP makes products for the chains. I'm assuming they give the NFP a percentage of the profit. Which becomes their donation. The chains then write this off on their taxes. I've just never known anyone to give a donation and also profit from the sale of products the NFP made in their warehouse.

Great video, could you explain when you say selling products that relate to the non profit. For example I do have a children's book and I want to sell it to raise money for my non profit. However, in the video you mentioned ensuring that it relates but I didn't quite understand what you meant. e.g my childrens book relates to mass transit about a magical train but my non profit is about subway safety. The book does not discuss subway safety but does describe the use of imagination. Could this relate?
@BossonaBudget11 ай бұрын
Hi! I mean that the sale of the book has to align with your charitable purpose. So if your mission is to fix trains (making this up), but nothing in your charitable purpose is related to educating children or others about trains then it's unrelated. Consult a tax professional on this though - I am not an accountant and this is general advice :)

Exactly what I was looking for! Can the online store have a different name than the nonprofit or do they need to have the same name?
@BossonaBudget2 жыл бұрын
You may decide to have a different name for the brand or the store than your corporation but the legalities and requirements for filing may differ by state so check with your Secretary if State’s office. And I’m not as familiar with DBAs for nonprofit so it wouldn’t hurt to consult an attorney as well

Can I do a "pay what you can" for service and be nonprofit?
@BossonaBudget2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what you mean but if you’re asking can you charge or collect money for services as a nonprofit- yes. You always have to be mindful of unrelated business income when you earn money.
