If you take the top off the cooker for the last hour that would thicken them up nicely, Mash a few bean and stir them in well help to thicken them as well.

It would for sure. But also really humidify the house and with the cold outside it would fog the windows all night ;).

I followed your recipe quite closely and ended with the best baked beans ever. Some changes I made were: I I boiled the beans until I got a rather firm texture (so they wouldn't become mushy). And I fried up a whole can of bacon. The beans mingled and aged in the fridge and got better every day. Honestly I've never farted so violently in my entire life!!🎺

I haven't seen canned bacon for years....are they still available? We used to get Danish canned bacon that was delicious!

I love beans on toast for breakfast, along with some sort of nice salty meat like sausage. The bread should be a good and hearty whole grain bread thickly sliced, toasted, and buttered. Yum yum!!

Ooh that sounds nice!

When using the slow cooker, I never soak my beans over night. I just put them in and let them cook slowly. Just wait with salt or tomato sauce til the end, as they slow the cooking process. Otherwise a great recipe.

Idk wut I did wrong but mine didn't finish cooking. I didn't have the crock pot on high the whole time tho but it cooked for about 10 hours or more and the beans were still a Lil firm. Also mine were waaaay darker than yours!
@painchaud20009 жыл бұрын
kelly oh I have no idea?...I only make this recipe in the crockpot so I'm not that familiar with problems related to it..mine are always the same tho. Did you let the beans soak the night before? Did you open the lid a lot? Oh and there is blacker molasses too...maybe we didn't use the same
@kewlbns698 жыл бұрын
i know this is wicked old but did you soak them over night on the counter or in the fridge? if you do it in the fridge they don't get as soft the trick is to do them at room temp. you can still do them in the fridge (i did once) it just takes a lot longer(when i let them soak in the fridge it took 3 days lol) and you might have to add water occasionally. anyway you probably got it figured out i just figured i'd throw my 2c in there in case you gave up lol.

Demerara. Sugar & blackstrap molasses make the beans so dark. Presentation, presentation, presentation!!

I LOVE Boston Baked Beans with a passion!!! Cooking them in the slow cooker is a perfect way to get them nice and tender without a lot of checking the oven, etc. As for that extra juice, you could follow some suggestions from other viewers, or you can also simply pour off the juice into a saucepan and simmer it down till it is thicker, then pour it back into the beans. Now monsieur, eat those beans with some of your wonderful fried smelt and some kind of salad, and you will have a FABULOUS meal. Bon appetit!
@painchaud200010 жыл бұрын
Well the juice wasn't a big problem in the end. It kinda we t back in the beans sfter a while. And I'm not sure about beans and smelt lol
@elainebmack10 жыл бұрын
Oh please give that combination of beans and smelt a try. When I grew up in Chicago, that was a royal combination on Fridays when we ate no meat (Catholic family).

My grandmother used to add partly cooked bacon & a bit of ketchup... had the old fashioned brown bean pot with the small opening in the top...Baked all day in the oil stove oven... sooo good...
