I keep and use the boiling water in my beans. And salt pork rather than bacon. Love that overnight cooking plan!

We live in Maine, and I usually make "Beanhole Beans". I've watched far too many videos on "HOME MADE BEANS" where the first ingredient is a #10 tin of beans! Next step, put'em in a shallow pan then into a smoker and VIOLA, (home made beans) 👎👎👎👎👎 My cap is off to you sir, closest demonstration of mimicking beanhole beans in a slow cooker I've seen yet. Bravo! 👍👍👍👍👍 TYFS

Like many, many native New Englanders, my family traces back to the Mayflower landing in 1620. And I've made homemade Baked Beans all my life. We have never put clove in our beans. So this is the first I've ever heard of it! (And I'm in my 70's!) Also, we put several chunks of genuine salt pork in the pot. But I'm sure bacon 🥓 works just as good. I soak for about 12 hours in cold water. Usually on our screened back porch, or any unheated room. And my beans always BAKE in the oven for 10 to 12 hours. I keep a pot of water simmering on the stove top. In case they look a bit dry. You never add cold water. When I take the pot of beans out, a large pan of Corn 🌽 bread goes into bake. When it's done, your meal of genuine Home Baked beans and cornbread is ready! Cheers!

My grandma made these in the summer on Cape Cod when we were kids in the mid 60’s. Same recipe but only a tablespoon or 2 of molasses. 1 lb of salt pork instead of bacon. We loved them Thomas’s English Muffins for breakfast

Oil the bowl for the molasses before pouring it into the bowl. It will slide right out. Easy Peasy.

No onions in mine, but thanks for the recipe. 99% the same as my G'mother's recipe. I'm going to make these. I have an OLD bean pot, but really like the idea of slow cooker. (Oh. Born in Boston...Irish Catholic! Grew up in Lexington. In Virginia now. The Revolution speaks wherever I've lived,!)

Nothing like a baked bean sandwich. Ideally Jacob's Cattle or yellow eyes baked beans, butter both halves of white bread, put the warm baked beans between the bread and that's your sandwich. I know it sounds plain, but it's tastey for breakfast or lunch. One thing. No bacon. Use salt pork, Crosby's molasses (not blackstrap) and brown sugar.
