That’s the unique scordatura tuning that Biber wrote for this particular sonata where the 2nd and 3rd strings are swapped

@@FlatlandBreezei believe with gut strings it should mostly only affect string tension somewhat minimally so tone isn’t affected as much as tonality is

@@hikawasayo6190 I figured it out, the strings are crossed because of the weight of the strings. They have to be swapped in order to reach the correct tuning. Also they think it represents Jesus’ cross.

Bravi! No violin has any business sounding this good in such an absurd tuning
