This is the Ashmont Station I remembered growing up in Dorchester.

This ride was my home line for over 35 years. It's always like re-visiting an old friend if I go there now.

I used to ride this line a lot when I was a kid living in Boston. The origin - Mattapan station - is a low income area where not everyone has a car and it is a critical connection to the Red Line at Ashmont station in Dorchester. It's actually a very pleasant ride even though the cars are old and not super-comfortable. Decent scenery and trees the whole route makes it very relaxing. I hope at some time in the future they will modernize the cars.

It's good to see old PCC cars still operating, however, these look different than the ones we used to have in Pittsburgh when I was a kid. Ours had windows that you could open, so you could smoke, and ours didn't have doors on both sides of the trolley. Also, ours ran on the street with traffic, hence they were actually streetcars. It's a shame they're gone from so many cities. They were better than busses.

@timosha21 They're not "Yellow." They're Orange, Historic color of the PCC's + other equipment of the MTA + Boston Elevated Railway. The Trolley's were Green due to one of the Trolley lines going to the "Arborway" (Trees are Green), the Blue Line Blue because it went by the Aquarium and along the water to Revere (Water is Blue), The Orange Line because it used to go down "Orange Street" when it was Elevated, + The Red Line because it went by Harvard (The Crimson).

Thanks for posting that. Terrific video of the movement of these great old cars. A lot of great views and angles. LOVE the camera on the track in two spots. Really wonderful. What struck me at the beginning is that the tracks run outside the covered platform, and the doors in both directions seem to be on the opposite side of the car from the main/central platform. I guess this is very different from a subway, because you can apparently walk across the tracks. But seems like passengers would have to brave bad weather to board. Noticed cars on the side opposite the driver side, but didn't see them used in this video. But what a GREAT video!

you're welcome!!! I just wish that Boston's historic Trolley's were in a more touristy area the way San Frnsisco's are

Odd that the PCCs had Green Line livery for what was and is a premetro for the Ashmont Red Line. I'm glad the MBTA brought back the old MTA cream, crimson and orange paint scheme.

wat I dont understand is why dont they re-paint the mattapan speed line red since it technically is a red line branch. also, they shud put on the T insignia instead of that old one

I believe these cars were built in 1945. They are still running today. They are painted orange now.

It's also called the Green Line because it serves the Emerald Necklace area of Boston (Fenway area)
@MattyC6218512 жыл бұрын
these cars are green because they once served the green line before the LRVs came along
