I miss this so much. Back in the 1990's, the A&E Network always televised "Pops Goes the Fourth," featuring the Boston Pops Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Keith Lockhart. The BPO always played the full version of the 1812 Overture, not what I call the Reader's Digest condensed version that is played by the National Symphony Orchestra on the "Capitol Fourth" broadcast on PBS. It is nice to see Maestro Lockhart and the BPO still going strong. Thank you for posting this.

Having grown up in Boston (and having pumped gas into Arthur Fiedler's VW at the Mobil station in Cleveland Circle) I'll always have a soft spot for the Pops even though I've been away for a long time. Thanks for posting this wonderful performance.

Went with my parents several times to the 4th Concert in Symphony Hall. They play it before the fourth there several times. Have been at Esplanade in pouring rain too. If crowds bug you go the day before the 4th…3rd of course….they do a dry run practice during day, people just come and lounge by the river. Love our city!

Our Dad was stationed on Governors Island, First Army Headquarters, and on Independence Day, we were entertained with this piece of music along with fireworks and cannon fire. Although it was almost 50 years ago, I have never forgotten the experience!

Tchaikovsky is my favorite classical composer and the 1812 Overture is possibly my favorite of his works. Crank up the volume and rattle walls for this great work.

In the U.K. l grew up listening to Uncle Mack on the radio. One of the most often played pieces as the finale to the record show was the last few minutes of this beautiful piece of music. Oh, how it takes me back.😊❤

Fabulous. There is great irony that many groups in the US perform a Russian piece of music for our 4th of July.
@red9delta877 Жыл бұрын
Because it's the only classical piece that allows us to shoot our guns in it. Classical music needs more explosions.

it may be a flawless performance musically technically. but to play a piece of music in less than 13 minutes, for which other orchestras need 15 or even better 16 minutes, in order to present the size and scope and dignity, is artistically almost cheeky... 😞
