I attended the Nashville show for 3rd Stage in 1987. I had "BOSTON" on my car's license plate, and took it to the show. I was on the 5th row, center stage, so the band could clearly see it. I was invited backstage and met everyone, except Tom, who never came out, although he did sign the license plate. Brad Delp saw me with the plate and immediately approached me. He was interrupted by a music executive, who said, "I want you to meet..." Brad stopped her, saying, "Excuse me, I'm speaking with someone, when I'm finished, we can talk." He was kind, down to earth, and seemed like the sweetest guy - no ego whatsoever. He wrote, "Thanks for making my night, Brad Delp '87"

My friend just had a newborn son at the time back home and Brad told him "Here take whats left of this joint and when your son is old enough smoke the rest of this with him" Brad put it in a bag and signed a message on it for my the newborn son. Just a kool gesture by a man who shared some time with a big fan. RIP BRAD.

I guess he poisoned himself with carbon monoxide. At least that's what I heard from my grandma. The last time I talked to him he was doing some small shows with his Beatles cover band Beatlejuice. I was really surprised because I was almost 50 and told him I knew exactly where I was when I first heard "More Than A Feeling." But then I said, "come to think of it, I DO hear your voice in a few Beatles songs now..." He laughed and we parted ways but I was amazed he had not felt his legacy with Boston was all that strong...

A few months before Brads passing.. my bud and l driving up Rt 1 in Mass pass a marquis in front of Tequilas Bar&Grill that read "Brad Delp and Barry Goudreu preforming this weekend!" some how l immediately thought "We are going to show up early and hang out back until the equipment shows up and offer to help huck in whatever" it worked! Brian ( keyboard) and Muzz (drums) we're there and accepted the help offer, Barry showed and Brian quickly introduced us, Brad showed up a bit later and again Brian introduced us, Brad seemed very grateful for the help.. I was star struck as l have ever been in my life! One of the greatest ever..in my presence talking to me after growing up in Miami listening and singing with his voice my than l could EVER remember. This lasted about 10 mins.. after talking about things initially for 5-10 mins he was just a really nice guy, no attitude, no " l am the GOLDEN VOICE OF ROCK!" personality there AT ALL.. So weeks past as we would go to Tequilas and help the band as much as possible l became closer with Brad as he would sit at my table with me between sets and we would have light conversations about anything generally not music related but it always came up. One weekend l brought up Tom.. he said "l'm the neutral between the band and Tom.. l get along with all of them but they have their moments between them. We are practicing now for a Boston upcoming Summer Tour, you come and l will get you backstage and introduce you to the guys!" I was PSYCHED! I went to my car and grabbed a gold foil "Don't look back" CD and handed it to Brad and asked if he would get Tom to sign it..he smiled as he looked at it almost puzzled..he was shocked being he had not seen a gold foil Boston CD, he said he'd be happy to! He asked for my address and stuck it in his guitar case.. they stopped playing Tequilas, late Oct.. 3 days before Xmas l got a package from Atkinson New Hampshire.. inside the disc l had given him, signed by both Tom and Brad and a small letter that he explained that he tried to get the whole band to sign it at practice but sadly it was an "either or" and he apologized and said he look forward to seeing me at the upcoming Summer Tour... wished my wife and myself a "Happy Christmas!" I was blown away! That tour never happened, l never saw him again.. it's been years now but it still saddens me when l think of those days at the bar & grill listening to his band that were soo good, doing covers, RTZ or some Orion music but not Boston music.. it was truly an honor to be a really good acquaintance of his. He will be missed forever by many.

Barry Goudreau is one of the most underrated guitarists ever, just like the Edge and Lindsey Buckingham. And to be more accurate, Barry, Fran Sheehan, and Sib Hashian were actually fired from Boston. They didn’t voluntarily quit. Even though the Third Stage and Walk On albums were good, the band was reduced to regional status by the ‘90s because once the people who beat each other up for tickets for the Third Stage (1986-‘88) found out that Tom & Brad were the only original members, they faded and were not paid attention to nationally.

@@CatholicTraditional This was the start of the feud between Scholz and Goudreau that became one of the factors in Delp's death. @@flynntaylor5459 I am indeed a musician. You'd be surprised where Scholz's inventions were used. Another iconic record using his stuff was Megadeth's "Peace Sells But Who's Buying" album too. ZZ Top's "Eliminator" I believed used it too.

Hearing the album, Boston back in the 70's was an incredible experience for one's ears. It was like going from viewing a black & white TV to a 4K HD big screen. Even on 8-track, it was very impressive.

In the summer of 1976 , I was getting ready to start high school in my hometown, I was hanging out with some friends listening to the radio. The DJ came on and said, this is a new band called Boston, the song is More than a feeling....we were blown away, we spent the next week trying to find a copy of that album, when we finally found it ...we wore it out, there was not a bad song song the LP..all killer, no filler.....that album defined that time in my life.

I am always surprised that Boston (City) hasn’t ever truly had a music “scene”. From Aerosmith to Boston to the Cars and the Pixies, everything that’s come out of Boston tends to be really “smart” and polished. Great video!

@@damnyankeefl I figure the Berklee College of Music attracted plenty of people to the area. From what I'm to understand, the college itself was a major reason the city had such a robust music scene.

Robert Cole not in the sense like Seattle had or say Austin or Nashville. With so many Universities in the city you would think it would be huge.

The Boston area had, besides the band Boston, Aerosmith, the J. Geils Band, and the Cars as rock bands; and Tavares and Donna Summer with disco in the ‘70s as national acts.

My mom had the Boston debut album. I was about 5 when I discovered it and I was entranced by the cover art and the sound of the album. I’ll just categorize it as life changing. Side note: it took me a long time to realize the spaceships were guitars.

The first album was a masterpiece, and it came after disco had been dominating the charts for nearly two years. I was in my second year of college when it came out, and it was a breath of fresh air that carried we rockers forward until the New Wave saved us for good in 1979 with The Police and The Pretenders, among others.

Right? And the song at the end of Third Stage, HOLLY ANN! "...UR long hair blowing in the wind as we sat on the sand, Holly Ann....🎶🎵 That entire album tells a story from start to finish! To me, it is a H.S. dude loosing his 1st true love, becoming a man, then finding his soul mate in Holly Ann. Obv music means different things to different people, but, it is still a great album! If u have the time (or a long commute,) try to listen to the songs in order as they were on the album 3rd stage, and see if u agree that it CAN BE considered a story, start to finish.

I was 20 when Boston debuted their 1st album. What a total masterpiece! Stunning. Perfect! I wonder how many people know the incredible amount of artists that have labels that bully them? I have an immediate family member that owns a major record label (that you have heard of), with 2 Grammy's to his credit from his artists (artists that the entire world knows), and who has written, engineered, and produced songs that every one here knows and (hopefully) loves. His FIRST priority is his artists happiness. Never once forcing a song on any of them, nor a timeline to make music. If it takes one 10 years to create 1 song...he will wait. They want to redo it in his studio 100 times? He works with them. They don't feel comfortable with the product? He helps (he's also a great musician), he re-does, gives input, or lets them go home and think it over for as long as it takes. Most studios are music meat markets. As far back as Melanie as we all remember.

Tom Schulz was in a good working relationship with Brad Delp over the years. Brads own (documented) demons were his demise.. Brad was known around the music business as “the nicest guy in Rock N Roll”. Tom is very talented and successful in almost everything he puts his heart and soul into. Tom created 90% of the Boston debut album by himself (w/vocals by B. Delp). That accomplishment is so underrated, Tom played almost every note in those songs. “Let Me Take You Home Tonight” (written by B. Delp) was the only song on that LP that was created in a record Labels Recording Studio. The rest was recorded in a make shift studio Tom Scholz had constructed in the basement of his apartment building. Scholz played every instrument on that LP. Truely amazing is what Tom Sholz really is! ✌️🙏 Rest In Peace Brad Delp!
