Brad Delp's voice is the other key part to the Boston sound. Without his vocals it will never be the same. RIP Brad we miss you.

I was surprised to hear that Brad quit the band! When Tom fired Barry Goudreau in 1981, Brad told Tom he would honor the recording and tour for Third Stage but after that he was done with Boston. That's why Brad is not on the "Walk ON" album.

Hard to believe its been almost 25 years since 'Walk On' was released. I remember first hearing 'I Need Your Love' on the radio and knowing it was Boston right away, even without Brad Delp's vocals. Tom Scholz definitely has a signature sound.

Brad Delp is an icon. A legend. One of a kind. Irreplaceable. That said, I never felt compelled, like some, to automatically like Walk On less because of his lack of involvement. I love Walk On. It is my favorite Boston album. Yup. There, I said it! This is no slight to Delp, who is one of the greatest singers of all time. But Walk On is an awesome follow-up to Third Stage, it has the Boston sound. And I love what Fran Cosmo did with the vocals. Would I have wanted to see him permanently replace Delp? Of course not. But his vocals on Walk On made possible some slight variations of flavor on Walk On that work amazingly well, and I enjoy it. Walk On remains underestimated to this day. For a hard rock album released in the "grunge" (yech!) era, it did superbly. Walk On, Tom!

To me...it ain't Boston without Brad. It is but it isn't. Early Boston was the soundtrack of my youth and Brad's voice will forever be etched in my mind.

I get your point, but to be clear, Boston IS, that instantly recognizable sound IS Tom Scholz from beginning to end, with a few recorded participants along the way and for live performances. Tom is casually telling us so right here, in case you didn't already know it. Don't react too hard here - Delp is my favorite rock voice ever who mixed perfectly for the band Boston, not taking one thing from him as his talent still proves itself in the recordings. Tom builds his own studios, some of his own electronics, plays all the instruments, mixes, even sings a little bit. But then add in that he writes the lyrics, writes the music then performs it. Then ask yourself where he went to school - not to mention what he did as an engineer......................then go see how the first album did. So count the number of guys in music who can meet this checklist. Yes, Tom is quite the guy among them. You just gotta love it!

@@12B4Christ Tom needs outside influence though, that's one of the reasons why the first five albums have a lot of good songs while Life Love and Hope has a much less remarkable instrumental sound and less interesting songwriting than the previous albums.

First two LPs will always be tops in my musical purview. Taking seven years to record/release Walk On, after "Third Stage" was released in '87...had negative consequences. Sure that added internal tension with various band members. Regardless, Tom Scholtz being a masterful brilliant genius, perfectionist, inventor, musician, producer, more. Creating new state of the art inventions, gear for his recording studio. By the time "Walk On" was released, Grunge was peaking on the radio airwave. Timing is everything in this brutal music industry. Wait too long...get left behind.

I remember coming back from overseas and seeing the album. I bought it and liked it. I called the local rock station in OKC and asked the head DJ why it wasnt getting any airplay. He told me it was garbage and a joke that didnt deserve airplay. I was taken back, seemed like the stations were told not to touch it. That was my take on it. The Boston roots were in the music.

In 1992 I called a rock radio station in my area and I asked the DJ why no songs were being played off Foreigners UNUSUAL HEAT (The first album without Lou Gramm featuring singer Johnny Edwards) and they told me "We couldn't find any good songs on it" the station is still on the air but it's been 30 yrs since I last listened to that station. Another form of censorship 2.0

It does look that way doesn't it. I for one would give him a pass if he actually did do that. He has more musical talent in his pinky than I have totally. It kind of makes you wonder who did this video. Obviously whoever did it looks like they copied it off an old VHS tape that had been re-copied 10 times first. That's what the quality breakdown does to the picture.

not sure why he used Fran Cosmo on vocals instead of Brad Delp. It took him 7 years to put this together, I'm sure he could have gotten Brad to do the vocals somewhere along the way. It would have sold twice as many copies with Brad on vocals.

At this point, the super high chest voice, which Brad had on the first album and to some extent on the second two, was largely disappearing, so in my view it was better to have Fran Cosmo in that regard.
