I could imagine you'd be more than happy with the performance. It's about 0.3 sec faster to 100km/hr than a Kia Stinger which I have. And I really am never wishing for more performance. I find it interesting all the qualities over and above the M340i that you mention, like extra luxury, ride quality etc.

Their aviation background for me was vital that's why I did 2 750 000 kilometres in 15 BMW over 25 years I mean when you are 20 000 vt up in the air you can not stop for a oil top up or coolant refill. I did do about 250 000 km in two 5 series cars

If you upped to the 545e, you would get the same inline 6 etc.. but with added HP from the elec, giving you 400hp ish and a bit more range over all? (This is where im going anyway as I upgrade from the 340i)

I just returned my 2018 440i Grand Coupe and got the white 2021 540i with M package two days ago. I prefer the 440i GC but they are not available. Plus I m not sure the look of the new front grill on the new 4 series. I tested drove the 540i and surprised how well it drives and very comfortable. Though I will miss the handling of the 4 series. My favorite model is my 2001 325i (E46). I drove it for 17 years without much issues.

so i had my 2021 540i m-sport for a little over a month, i've been avg 28mpg on my commute. coming from the F10 535i where i avg around 23.5mpg, the new 540i with the 48V is amazing. i'm glad i didn't settle for the 530i or 530e. As far as M550i, would it be more fun, yes. but it wouldnt' make any difference on my commute.

Just bought a 2021 540i xdrive for my wife a couple weeks ago, and will take delivery in about 2 months. I liked the M340i, as I really wanted a sports sedan, but my wife liked the more luxurious ride of the 540 - and it is her car. In my opinion, there really isn’t much you can do to the 540i to make it a true sports sedan, as it really is a midsize luxury sedan with a decent amount of pep. If you want a 5 series sport sedan, go with the M5, or at least the 550i. As for me, I may wait a year and buy myself a used M340i.

I love my 1990 BMW 525i with manual transmission and 291,000 miles, but won’t buy a new BMW because of the high purchase cost, maintenance problems, high cost of maintenance and severe depreciation. I also have a 2012 Honda Crosstour with 90,000 problem free miles that I paid $26,000 and a 2000 Corvette. For the price of the 540i, I can buy a C8 mid-engine Corvette. Hmmm easy decision! And what will the Corvette be worth in five years vs. the BMW!?

I think at the end of the day I would definitely have to choose the 550i over the 540i if I could swing it just because 188 extra HP is a huge difference & it would be a lot more fun to drive! If I were to settled for the 540i I know I would be trying to figure out how to upgrade to the 550i similar to buying a Ford Mustang V6 when you could be driving the 5.0 or a Dodge V6 compared to the HEMI. But If I didn't have the option to get the 550I then I'd want to try & increase the HP, add carbon fiber side view mirrors & a carbon fiber rear spoiler to make it special....Love the gray color....CHEERS!

Hey Greg, true the 550 is more fun, but I was able to tune my 540i to 415 hp, with a stage2 tune w/ catless downpipe. I also got the M-package with the carbon fiber trimmings, M steering wheel, M rims, etc. Still not at 550 level, but for a fraction of the cost, it's damn near close. Hopefully someday I can afford a true M, some sweet day.

Bernina Grey Amber Effect. I'm probably going to get that color; it's very rare to find on a dealer's lot so I had to hunt one down to see it in person. The online configurator is way of in representing that color. I also think the car looks amazing in Bluestone Metallic.

I have the 2018 model and absolutely never think I need more power. I've recently driven the M5, 850i, 840i, M550i, M440i and M340i. The 840i, 540i and M440i are the most fun to drive and sound the best while still having a comfortable ride. I couldn't deal with the M340i's buckboard ride so I brought it right back to the dealer. Despite being lightning fast, the M5 is not enough more fun to justify the huge price premium and the engine sounds/exhaust note are boring.

The 2021 BMW 540i xDrive goes from 0-60 in 4.6 compared to a 4.9 0-60 acceleration time for the E450.

@@BostonAutoBlog It depends who you get it from. Car and Driver says the 2021 E450 does it in 4.3 seconds and the 2021 540iX Drive in 4.5. That makes more sense considering the Mercedes has more horsepower and torque.

@@danielson1989 It is a 1984 318i or internally at BMW its called a E 30. i am semi retired now but did a total 2.5 million kilometers for work mainly in 15 BMW'S I owned over 25 years. Drove so many derivatives of the 3 series and 5 series but most memorable was the 735i strong luxurious safe and fast. Although I also dabbled in a few Mercs and even a Audi my motor choice remains with BMW as a brand mainly because of there historical background in aviation. This means that their engines are vibration free , durable and the best part is we never had to worry about oil or coolant consumption. I use a e90 or a 320 D daily with 315 000 km on the clock never used any oil for topping up.

@@MC-oi9sl I don't know how they injected boring in their cars but you are absolutely right. I had a Geo Prism Lsi which is really a Toyota corolla. I was lucky enough to have a 5-speed, the car had a ice cold A/C and was somewhat quick, I had a short shifter, cat back exhaust, cold air intake, and a ported throttle body and port matched intake from a Mitsubishi Diamante. With all that said the car was still boring. I did sell it for a nice profit.

Nope - I've owned 2 of them, 2012 F10 535i traded that in with 220,000km without anything broken, no trim is broken, no electronics broken, no oil leaks etc etc. I now have the 2018 G30 520d and it currently has 113,000km without any issues and costs basically nothing to service, BMW does the 30,000km service and I do oil services in between because. If you look after your girl she will look after you.

@@NicoleKe I have a friend at work that has a 2018 550i. I have a E39 540i M Sport. He jokingly talked about how much faster his car is, I always told him, "naturally aspirated is way better, I don't have the hot v issue you will have." He would laugh and chirp off after work. Weeks later I would ask him about the faster 550i, he would be evasive but somehow forgot I hooked him up with a great certified BMW mechanic who told me he cooked his turbos, intercoolers, fried the radiators and needed a new head gasket. Repair cost were estimated at $8600. We laugh about it because he has to pay all this money while driving his girlfriends crappy Jetta. I got a 6-speed and whenever I see him walking on campus and I'm driving I do a quick chirp and he gives a fake smile. His car has been in the shop for the past month. I never had one single problem with my car.

2021 Mercedes E class won the car of the year by several car magazines. Winning over BMW, Porsche, Audi and other car makers. The Mercedes is the best all around car. Has the better interior. Mercedes E450 has more horsepower than the 540i. Mercedes Benz the best or nothing!

The following numbers are straight from the live chats of the German websites of BMW and Mercedes-Benz respectively (I am and speak German). 2021 5-Series sedan, non-hybrid, back-rests up: 530 liters 2021 E-Class sedan, non-hybrid, back-rests up: 540 liters The E-Class always did and always will have a larger trunk capacity than the contemporary 5-Series. Any respectable motoring journalist knows this. It's late here and I have wasted enough time already to educate you, so go look up the right number for the A6 yourself.

@@TheUrbanEpicure we don't have hybrid models for the A6 and E-Class in the US. Only the 5 Series currently has a plug-in hybrid version, and even with less cargo room for the battery, it still outclasses the A6 and E-Class for cargo space with the rear seats up
