I read through the entire document/report, and it's very interesting to see the ways Atlas has improved over time, but the most shocking thing, for me, was the realization that Atlas is only 5ft tall! In the videos, he looked way bigger than he actually is, so that was quite surprising for me. I hope you keep improving upon the best machines I've ever seen, whether it be humanoid, quadrupedal or crane-like which is Stretch, I can't seriously explain my love for this company in words.

You or anyone else watching this has the intelligence to work on robots like this, rather the issue is people don’t have the complete knowledge/documentation/experience. Personally I would love to build and program projects like this but I don’t have the resources required to do it. (Documentation, parts and experience.) If individuals could find resources quickly, freely and more accessibly then I feel more individuals would engineer new and innovative creations. (We seem to be moving in this direction but I feel it lags behind the people doing the “in the field” development/testing.)

It's even worse when people have medical backgrounds that can affect their daily lives and job finding opportunities such as Asperger's or autism, even if they have the motivation, talents and skills and other requirements that matches for the job they still couldn't find any success compared to those that're talented and normal, as the result it kills their motivation and their will to live to the point where they became depressed or consider their autism to be a curse which can understandable from their point of view. It's really complex than what 'normal minded' people think. Technically i was meant to be in the Air Force maintenance team or pilot right now instead of wasting my life doing uni work overtime and commenting stuff but because of my medical history and my shitty experience in middle and high school (thanks alot young me), i'd probably get there in god-knows or maybe never due to their strict recruitment phases and requirements. Basically, being born with autism is like a new player being matched with an elite gaming team that can dominate the Esports arena while getting autism diagnosis in later life is like playing Dark Souls related games. It's easier at first with some difficulty but after finding out you have the diagnosis your life turns to shit instantly.

People have watched so many movies and so much CGI these days that it may be hard for someone under 40 to appreciate just what BD has done and how much real-world engineering has gone into this. It is just awesome to see talented engineers keep pushing and pushing over decades, and end up with something that was sci-fi 20 years ago. Compare that to Elon Musk's "I'm going to build a humanoid robot" presentation with the mime in a spandex suit, that got so much press recently....yes, you will, if you buy BD and slap a "Tesla" sticker on it.

I love the usual demos, but I think I love this video the most. Seeing the "reality" of the constant iteration and failures, the actual engineering talent and repairs behind the scenes, and even what goes into building the courses really shows the scale of the problems behind robotics how y'all are going about challenging them. Too many people are under the impression that these are already or very soon going to be sentient killbots ready to kick down their door, but this shows that scifi is scifi for a reason and there's still a long way to go. Great work one and all!

I'm not sure it was trying to catch itself with its arms there, as that swinging downwards motion is part of the intended movement. But I agree, they are getting very lifelike, especially when you see them wobble and readjust their footing!

If balance unrecoverable, take fall position 5. etc. An easy way to reduce damage to your platform, vs say, having it fall on its extended arm and snap it off.

Really appreciated this video. I was in grade seven when I first saw Atlas being bullied and since then working at Boston Dynamics has been a dream of mine. I'm now entering an undergraduate degree in engineering (mechatronics focused) at UBC. Recently I've been worrying that the most interesting work to be done is all on the sofware and computer science side, but this video reassured me that the mechanical side is far from boring. I'll likely still pursue education in computer science later on, but I'm more excited than ever for what engineering has to offer. Wherever I end up working, thank you so much to the BD team for the never ending inspiration and joy.
