Many may not know that Burnout Paradise was once a much better game than what we ended up with. From updates that negatively altered the experience, to complete incompetence from EA, and the developers, Burnout Paradise is a botched experience on each, and every platform.

EDIT: I just found out today that another change made with the lowered top speeds was also that the boost speeds were also lowered. Thought I would mention that since I wasn't aware of this when I made the video! ---- A few things I want to make clear: - I tried my best to not be bias, and favorite one side compared to the other when selecting clips. Especially for the crash physics section, it was extreme hard to replicate crashes, so I tried my best with it. - I also don't want to make it seem like the crash physics were completely different from 1.0 to 1.6. I wanted to highlight the main differences that I experienced, but many times, crashes per version can play out the same way. - I did not mention every change that was made, and if you feel like I missed an important change that you would like to mention, leave it down in the comments. I only selected changes made that I feel like they negatively impacted the game. - And yes, I did make some mistakes, like how I did " Combo 'Over Screen' " when it should have been " 'Combo Over' Screen ", and that called somethings wrong, like saying that Super Jumps were 'Stunt Jumps', and Smash Gates as 'Crash Gates'. Don't sue me, I ain't perfect.

the speed reductions are because of the rai-jin turbo because it is at 10/10 in speed and it must go at the same speed as the annilator street rod but the carbon hawker was not going at this speed it's just false stats like this for others. I could be wrong

I remember complaining about all of this on the Criterion forums back in the day and the devs basically said all the changes were to make the game more accessible to improve the online mode. The crash screens were too scary and 'violent' and EA really wanted to push it as a party/fun game.

Actually, the road rages are much easier in the current version compared to 1.0 and they basically made marked man impossible sense whenever you shunt a rival they'll go straight into a wall or if you get shunted you slam straight into the wall.

Racedriver43 even says you're fucked if you get shunted, as your car automatically steers you to the side and crashes you. He even said it's like getting sneezed on means instant death.

1:58 I believe Criterion/EA ran into some copyright licensing issues with the sponsor cars, which explains why the ability to enter the codes were removed. Another possibility is hinted on EA’s website, where the FAQ for Burnout Paradise eluded to the codes being used/found on the internet which meant everyone just looked the codes up instead of going to the sponsor in question (making a few sponsors pull out)

I would watch a video online of a person driving to big surf island and I would then also boot up my game on my Windows PC, drive to the location.. only to realise there is no bridge. I knew I had the Ultimate Box version so I thought I had all the DLC so I started thinking my game was screwed up.

TBH they didn't need to shutdown the servers since they weren't as dead as BPR servers. Also the server shutdown broke some of the mods like RV2, cause you have to be connected to the servers to use most of the stuff that is in the mod.

Yes, but user known as Bo98 had the custom servers for original game and they could be started or releases by him but from what i heard they were unstable

I don't think it was a bad game for any version to me because I love how you can drive around and never get tired of basically freeroam nonstop. But also the remastered version which allows you to enter the island really adds a lot of cool and uniquely exciting features to the game. I loved every bit of the game because of it's depth within the open world, nonstop action, awesome cars, and I can literally go on forever and never get bored of playing it. Plus the crash physics are the best in any racing game in the world. Plus the soundtrack is really memorable and easily one of my favorites of any game with a great soundtrack other than the SSX3 and the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater soundtrack as well.

Burnout 1 and 2 had scary feelings to them as well, even if there's no flashiness… so frankly an age rating of at least PEGI 12 isn't out of the question (at least in terms of Burnout 3).

i personally don't care about the final version cutting out music - it can be easily modded back in and the game's soundtrack is already awesome. but impact time/aftertouch being cut sounds really odd and all the downgrades done after release are downright stupid. why were so many things worsened in updates? we will never know.

1:56 this was mostly because the sponsorship licenses were expired when 1.6 came out. I think Criterion themselves mentioned this on twitter. EDIT: I also want to mention 7:01 that Criterion did this because a player finished the entire game with just a Cavalry. But again, why do it on ALL vehicles?

I don't mind so much some of these changes, what bothers me are things like, when you are looking for a online game to join, they all say "Car" and "race". it's not specific to the type of vehicle or event... and you can't pick a "Flag" paint job for the bikes anymore.

if you buy the older steam version, it has some of the older features, such as road rages can go up to requiring 58 take downs, and stunt run points needed are much higher, and depending on which game mode you chose to play the most before getting the last license, that game mode would have a much higher win condition towards nearing 102% completion.

I will always miss the 1.0 car sounds. On the 1.6 update, I can hear 616 Sport's engine loop because of the higher pitching and it sounds so bad. P12's original engine sound is just ear candy imo. But yeah, the car engine changes in 1.6 I really didn't like at all.

I've only played this in PC. - Not sure if I like the crash filter from 1.0 when red is the only color showing. Great for showing the subtle creepiness that has been present in the franchise, but I prefer seeing crashes in full color and detail, specially with such a damage model. - Disappointed about the AI being dumbed down, the races were indeed easy when I first played it. - On the lowered top speed, like another commenter said, I thought it was a UI change. Sucks that this game doesn't have a speedometer in the UI (w/o mods) to really validate the change. - Not fan of not having more time extensions after reaching the Road Rage target. - I did not realize the Impact Time SFX were removed - The PC not getting love in the original version was not only exclusive to Burnout Paradise. NFS Shift, Hot Pursuit and The Run had the PC version not have the same amount of DLCs as the consoles. I'm streaming NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered in my channel (not intending to plug, but in-case someone calls me out), but to be completely honest, if the PC version of the original HP2010 had all the DLCs available, there would have been lesser reason to get the remastered version. To be fair the subtle changes graphically were nice, but not worth the price they're sold at (I bought it in a Steam sale)

Ah! I didnt know it was an actual thing! I knew it felt different playing since then and the demo version on my 360 certainly felt different, but i chalked it up to it just being a demo version. I felt the crashes were much more violent ,visceral and terrifying in the old version and noticed the ui changes but i thought the ui was just the demo

Man I learned the hard way that the physical copy of Paradise on PC no longer works. I was so happy to have aquired this game from my childhood again, only to realize I can't even play it because of a stupid decision made by EA. Suffice to say I went straight into downloading a pirated copy of the game. At the end I at least managed to activate the CD-Key on Origin, but I prefer to play the pirated version without EA's DRM bs.

Personally, I think one okay-ish change is the crash Physics. Sure, they aren’t as exciting, but I think the old ones may cause you to fall too far behind. As for the smoky boost, it’s a little sad i never got to experience that.

To be honest I think the 1.6 engine sound was better even though it was more dull, it sounded more realistic and it just felt right. I have heard tuned cars on the street and they do not sound like the 1.0 version, which would have been horrible, but they sound like the 1.6 which makes this the only part of the video I'd disagree with (personal bias). Other than that, it's very accurate.

i have both the remaster installed and a 1.0 copy that i run through RPCS3 (thank god i kept my PS3 games lol, my mom threw away the console) and i seem to gravitate toward 1.0 more often, but i wish i had more of the QoL like restarts, no constant filter (i like the road rage filters and stuff), and time of day (didn't like the "weather" system tho)

I have an issue with Burnout Paradise on my Xbox 360. When I insert the disc into the tray and boot up the game, suddenly an update of 2 mb shows up. Afterwards it causes an infinite loading screen. I decided to remove the update from my cache and launch the game without internet connection. And the game loads, but it plays in French instead of English. How does this happen?

Honestly after watching this video, I still find the remaster to be awesome. Probably cuz I play mainly on PC so I never got to experience the add-ons, same goes with NFS Hot Pursuit 2010. And even with all the slightly worsened updates, it still doesn‘t break the immersion of the overall game experience at all. But I do gotta say that the PC port of the remaster really sucks ass when it comes to optimization. It took me a full hour to fix the constant crashing issue at the start, and the problem was OBS? For some reason? Either I had to uninstall it or install an OBS add-on (which I did) and it worked! That‘s my only huge issue with the remaster, the rest is nice as it always has been. Btw the crash SFX mentioned in the video are gone in the remaster... are they really? Can anyone provide a link to compare the original’s and remaster‘s crashes? I feel like I‘ve heard them in the remaster but idk

That's way I labeled it '1.1 to 1.6'. I didn't go through it individual updates as I was saying these changes were made throughout those updates. I only stopped at 1.6 as that is when the PC version released.

Funny you mentioned it because I just tried it a couple of days ago using Xenia Canary, since it crashes on the regular Xenia. On my system the game doesn't run great, but its very playable.

On PS3, and Xbox 360, you can downgrade the game back to 1.0. You have to look at that process depending on the system. On PC, since it shipped with the equivalent of the 1.6 update on consoles as its 1.0 version, you can't downgrade this version.

Yes. Just buy the game for PS3 and turn off the downloading of automatic game updates (or your systems internet connection) so you play it straight as it comes from just the disc.

The best way to play the original game nowadays is to jailbreak your PS3 to get back all the delisted dlc. Then use the custom soundtrack feature from the game updates and add in any songs you want, like songs from previous Burnout games.
