Considering all the educational chess channels I watch, I want to say this is an unusually good, clear, well-written video. Basic concepts and tips that will actually help people and are easy to understand. Very well done.

Go to Anna Cremling's channel of you want to actually learn about chess on not just watch pretty girls play chess. She does the best just of any KZbin channel. She is kind of cute too even if her voice can be a bit much.

@@toriless I find your comment rude and disrespectful. Also presumptuous about a person you don't know. What they look like has nothing to do with the quality of content, or why I'm here. This is not primarily an educational chess channel, so of course I wouldn't come here specifically to learn about chess. But as an educator, writer and video creator myself, this is a good educational video all the same. I'm qualified to say so. If I wanted to learn about Chess on YT, I'd go to one of the four educationally-focused chess channels I'm already subscribed to, irrespective of whatever the presenter looks like.

Well said, Alex! One thing I'll add to the opposition section: if you're up a pawn, THINK before pushing the pawn! Because with one move, the opponent can take back the opposition. In general, if you can make a move that forces the two kings to be one rank apart, do it. And don't push the pawn until you know you have the opposition and can keep it :)

Just control the center of the board and you will win the game. If you are playing as white you can exchange a piece against black because we all know white piece advantage is a board control in early match. So if you are black do not exchange the piece in early until you can control the center of the board before you exchange.

Beauty and brains.❤❤ Very nice instruction for beginners too. :) keep bringing them more. I would recommend to do a series on middlegames. Strategy and tactics. Open files, good bishops, knights, Colour complexes, Pins, stacking rooks, Battery. Use examples from famous positions in historical games from morphy era onwards. If you do them as a series i am sure it will be a hit.

I think the best way to remember to use your King during endgame is: The King is King during daytime. (The beginning of the game til Midgame). The King is an Assassin during nightime (Endgame) meaning, the King goes around assassinating pawns and advancing.

these are all very basic endgame concepts. I would like you to show how to win king and Queen vs King and Rook endgame, also how to mate a lone king with 2 bishops and with bishop and knight. I learned how to do all these. 2 bishops isn't that hard but knight and bishop and Q vs R endgame are very difficult. By the way I'm only somewhere between 1600-1800 so anyone can learn these with study. You should also discuss Zugzwang, diagonal opposition, triangulation, square/color weakness, zwischenzug, bishops of opposite colors, and other complicated endgames. These may be above your average channel watcher but the real chess players will appreciate it.

Too brief, IMO. I do really like educational content, but would have liked to hear more in-depth discussion of the concepts. It took me a lot of effort to start understanding kings taking opposition a few months ago when I first learned about it, and I'm not sure how helpful this introduction to the concept would have been. On the other hand, I've been reminded, repeatedly, that I am not the sharpest bulb in the crayon box.
