What would cause a garage door that only opens when the garage door opener is held down. Doesn’t go up or down with one press?

Sounds like you are bypassing your force limit, is your spring broken on the door! Pull the emergency release with the door on the ground and see how heavy it is

Get a torch and cut the springs properly. Bro is this your first time cutting a spring? You did the entire process incorrectly.
@tcgaragedoor4 ай бұрын
Ill just respond to this one and delete the rest... 1. Over torquing, no 2-3 half turns doesnt bar the tube 2. Torch and grinder are interchangable..Using a grinder literally does not affect the process of spring making at all LOL.. Plenty of videos of me using torch, but dont have one on pick up truck 3. Bearings are rated for anywhere from 50k-100k cycles, these bearings didnt have shake and after checking nothing was wrong with them, dont need to replace bearings every spring change, thats upselling.. 4. I can tell its 15r lol... but why would i not 100% confirm instead of guess, that sounds like a hack job to me 5. I said higher cycle.. standard cycles are 10k i upgraded to 30k with no additional charge.... so you dont have to watch the videos, but lying in the comments/calling me out when you are wrong is not very cash money

@@tcgaragedoor it’s 3/4 of a turn once you touch the tube but if you’re using that much effort to turn the ratchet then you started hitting the tube far before you realized. You guys always make it harder for the next guy.
@tcgaragedoor4 ай бұрын
@@philbelfrage again, you dont see that i grip my hand on top of the ratchet part so i can feel it, until i get to the point of me touching the tube, then i add 2-3 half turns. you can still feel the shaft lol
@philbelfrage4 ай бұрын
@@tcgaragedoor 2-3 half turns is too much. That would be 1-1.5 full turns. 3/4 of a turn is what you should be using.
@tcgaragedoor4 ай бұрын
@@philbelfrage Its an argument as old as time... people do it how they want, I have taken off PLENTY of my springs and never have I dented the shaft from how I do it, and I feel comfortable doing the same on 1 3/4" id springs as i do installing 3 3/4" springs, so im not going to change that. Just because thats how it says to do it "in the book" doesnt mean thats the only way to do it. You will never see me doing 3/4 turns on 3 3/4" springs, putting pressure on the winding bar to check, they will slip (pssst i've done that before), and obviously this rule does not apply to 6" springs and if you think it does, well not much i can say other than youll learn
