Detailed explanation about spring color and more importantly when you dont see color , i did not know the weight of the garage door. No where there's any article. Explain How to choose the spring if you don't know the color of the existing spring. Thank you for your explanation and insight.

Super helpful. Thanks! According to my scale it's weighs 40 - 50 pounds depending on how many times I put the scale on. The connector thing is released. Seems awfully light. It's a fiberglass door.

most likely didnt have both springs removed and/or you're using a digital scale which seems more inaccurate for these. you'd need both extension springs removed, preferably a mechanical scale. and to make sure that the door isint sitting crooked/caught up when trying to weigh it.

@@alexvega8026Appreciate the response. Both springs were removed at the time I weighed the door. Maybe it was the scale. I ended up getting some springs that worked but it was a real PITA trying to find the right ones at Home Depot.

Hi, any problem of installing higher caliber springs. The color is not a the existing springs and somehow the stronger springs are cheaper at the hardware store, so I figured out I could use the more heavy.

Everything is done correctly besides one thing you’re down limit is actually set a little bit too far you can see your rail is bent upwards quite a bit so you might want to turn the down limit the other way but only just a little bit so you kind of have a soft shot then you disengage your garage door opener from the door and your chain needs to be a little bit more tighter not much just a little bit so in the center of the rail do you want the chain just about right underneath of the rail and then on the back of the opener door to force settings so what you wanna do is you want to open the garage door all the way open and then you want to spread your legs open so your legs do not trigger the safety sensors then have the door close on your shoulder if it’s putting way too much pressure on your shoulder then you know you’re down limit needs to be decreased and that goes the same with the open limit you have the garage door closed and then when the door gets about halfway open grab onto the door and if it opens way too hard then you need to decrease your up limit
